Some people prefer space, others prefer comfort, but sometimes circumstances are stronger than our desires and all that remains for us is to practically equip what we have.

How to furnish a small room?

This question torments many people, because they really want our living space, even a small one, to be not only comfortable and beautiful, but also functional. There are several secrets with which you can make the space visually larger and give the interior a trendy look. In order to furnish a small room cozy and stylish, you will need: compact furniture, hanging shelves, a large mirror, light curtains, as well as various accessories. Before you begin to design the interior, you need to decide on the color scheme. If you were planning to carry out repairs and want to visually expand the room, then preference should be given to beige or pale pink shades. There is another secret to increasing the space: a difference of 1-2 tones of the ceiling and walls. Ceiling should be lighter.

Choosing furniture for small rooms

This is one of the most important steps. The selected furniture should be comfortable and very functional. Today, furniture stores and manufacturers provide us with a huge amount of these products, for every taste and color. In order to understand how to properly furnish a room, you should think about what interior item occupies the most space in your living room. If your choice will stop on a bed, then it is worth buying modern version of lifting beds. In the daytime, it can serve you as a compact wardrobe, a comfortable sofa or a folding chair-bed, and in the evening a comfortable bed. No less necessary object in the apartment will be a folding or sliding table, which will not take up extra space, and in its intended purpose will not in the least yield to a regular table.

Another useful acquisition that will help you understand how conveniently to furnish a room will be mounted shelves. This is a very comfortable furniture that will serve as a place for various trinkets, books and other trifles. So you make room in the bedside tables and wardrobe for more spacious things. The sliding wardrobe will become irreplaceable furniture in your small room. When arranging furniture, consider such nuances as the absence of empty cuts and gaps between interior items, because at the expense of this space you can free up more space in the room.

An integral attribute will be a huge one, which is not only very convenient to use, it will help to increase the space and make it much lighter. The same effect can be obtained due to the play of light. It is necessary to distribute the light in different corners of the room. An important element in the design of the interior of a small room will be curtains. Give preference to light colors in vertical stripes. In this case, the walls will seem higher.

To create additional space, you can make a podium inside which drawers for clothes and various things will be placed. Another creative solution could be installing a mezzanine on the ceiling. If you like to watch TV, then place it on the wall. Air conditioning in this case can be mounted in the ceiling.

In order to determine and understand exactly how you want to furnish your small room, listen to your desires and preferences. Stay in the role of a designer, show your creativity, embody your ideas. Unleash your imagination and decorate the wall in an original way with paintings, frames. The main thing to remember is that there should be a sense of proportion and style in everything.

Most residents of cities - large and small, peripheral and megacities, most often are the owners of small apartments. But how do you even want to organize this space so that the interior turned out to be fully comfortable, cozy, ergonomic and beautiful! It is believed that in order to maximize the use of the space of a small apartment, its planning should be organized as simply as possible. It is undesirable to saturate the space functionally. Each room should have its own purpose. No need to combine them despite the prevailing stereotype of openness of space, but rather, to separate the living area and kitchen, living room and bedroom.

Design tricks to visually enlarge the space

So, where does the reincarnation of a small apartment begin in a cozy, comfortable and functional home? That's right, with the preparation of a simple project that you can independently sketch on a piece of paper.

Of course, it’s unfortunately not possible to physically solve the problem of space shortage, but it’s still worth trying to make housing more ergonomic and comfortable for life. Moreover, the many positive reviews of the owners, who decided to resort to small design tricks that contribute to a visual increase in the space in their apartment, speak of their successful experience.

Corridor and hallway

When designing the interior of your small apartment, it will be appropriate to use neutral and simple things. However, these things can be simple and at the same time stylish or even designer. Also, do not complicate and overload the already small space. For such apartments, the most appropriate style is -, in the interior of which there are only the most necessary things, and other unnecessary stuff is thrown away.

The main task of furniture is to maximally use the free space of rooms along the walls, while using corners and hidden volumes. So, for example, a corner wardrobe, taking up visually a bit of space, will hold a fairly large number of objects, and access to it will be facilitated by self-retractable shelves.

Having thought through every little thing - you can get a functional and stylish art object that attracts attention

Objects built into each other will allow them to be stored more compactly outside of use, as long as their appearance is not complicated and intricate. It is appropriate if the furniture of one room will be made in the same style and from the same materials or materials companions.

Narrow corridor  It will not be cluttered if the shoes are not to be placed on the floor, but in a special shelf-shoebox, which has compact dimensions, is spacious enough and closed.

And in general, the less open surfaces on which objects are located, the more tidy and not cluttered the design of a small apartment looks.

Bathroom

Bathroom space  It will save a competent placement of all its elements. It is convenient to put the washing machine under the shelf on which the accessories for washing will be stored. This shelf can be multi-storey, which will allow to place there and rarely used or purchased for the future hygiene products.

The place under the sink can be used to store towels and baskets with things, under the bathroom - buckets, brushes, cleaning products or other sanitary means.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, often without attention is the place above the refrigerator where you can install a cabinet with shelves for storing rarely used dishes. The narrow space between the floor cabinets or the closet and the wall is well suited for a retractable shelf that holds the lids of pots, rolling pins and other compact items.

The color for decorating a small kitchen is definitely better to use, it will visually expand the space. Tall wall cabinets will also visually increase the height and overall volume of the kitchen. Dining table is better to have a sliding, which will relieve the space. When food is taken by 1-2 family members, the table can not be moved apart, when the whole family gathers at dinner - to increase its size.

It is nice to have a pair of folding chairs that can be kept hanging on hooks behind the door or in a sliding structure between the floor cabinets. These chairs can be reached as needed, and they do not take up space when not in use.

Living room

The living area should, if possible, be divided into separate rooms reserved for the bedroom and living room. Having your own private bedroom creates a feeling of comfort, security and stability.

The device of modern beds allows you to use all its elements. Bottom part  - for storage of dimensional things or sleeping accessories. Headboard  - as a shelf, and sometimes even a bedside table, on which you can place night lamps (or reading lamps), favorite photos, souvenirs brought from travels.

If a room layout  It has a niche, it is advisable to install a cabinet in it. It is better if it will occupy all the space from floor to ceiling. Then it will conveniently and affordably accommodate all things — seasonal and everyday. Mirrors are perfect for finishing cabinet doors. This will visually enlarge the room and avoid the installation of a separate dressing table.

If the layout of the room does not imply a niche, then you can install a corner closet. Such a design will not be visually cumbersome, while allowing for the use of difficult-to-reach corner space.

If all the same apartment layout forces to combine living room and bedroom, then you need to more carefully approach the choice of the sofa and the mechanism of its folding. It is necessary to give preference to a reliable and convenient design, because it will have to be used daily. It is also necessary to provide for the presence of a built-in box for storing sleeping accessories.

Children's room

Under it you need to select the brightest room in the apartment. The one that sunshine for most of the day. Let it be small, but exactly light room. The table is needed for children of any age, and you need to place it at the window. It will be beneficial to use as a countertop a single plane with a window sill.

This will save and interesting to beat the workplace, and along the side walls to the right and left of the window to arrange bookshelves, which can accommodate not only a children's library, but also a family one.

If there are two children or a room is quite small, then it makes sense to install a loft bed. In the first case, another bed will fit under it, in the second - a place will be made for playing or storing toys. Based on the size of the rooms - the master bedroom and the nursery - you need to determine the storage location of children's clothes.

If it does not allow to place a wardrobe in it, and it is capacious enough in the parents' room, then all children's things can be stored in it. And for everyday things and underwear to allocate a couple of closed shelves in the closet for books or toys in the nursery. This is especially true when the children are still young, and the choice of clothes is carried out by the parents. For adolescent children already need to allocate a separate storage space (wardrobe). The main requirement for furniture for children - reliability, security  and environmental friendliness!

Choosing shades for the decoration of the children's room, do not forget that the child in it not only spends leisure time, but also engages and rests. Therefore, the desire to dress everything up in bright elements and colored paints can turn into fatigue and excessive irritability of the offspring.

Zoned space, decorate brightly the part of the room in which the child will play, where his toys are stored. And if the furniture in the nursery is so colorful enough, then the surface of the walls and the floor should be done in soothing light colors.

Materials

Now a few words about the choice of materials and colors for decorating the interior of an apartment with a small area.

In a small apartment you should give preference to light colors and balancing geometry of the picture. With irregular room shapes (long and narrow), short walls can visually stretch the horizontal lines in the wallpaper pattern, as well as a lighter shade of the relatively long walls.

Floors in such a room preferably parallel to the short walls (if it is a laminate or parquet flooring). In the case of linoleum suitable pattern with a horizontal transverse direction.

Visually raise the ceiling will help design it in a white or light shade, as well as vertical geometry on the walls. Verticality does not imply strict aligned lines.

Such an ornament will be boring and dull. Prefer drawing, only perceived as a whole, as vertically directed.

Its elements themselves can be abstract or favorite subjects. You should not use rich colors, coarse and variegated fragments. If all the walls of the room are decorated in pastel colors, then one of them can be distinguished. For this, successfully use wallpaper companions, wallpaper, murals. The main thing that the drawing was not too loaded and heavy.

Hidden in the wall bed - a great choice for a small room

Lighting

Take care of sufficient lighting in the apartment. A badly lit room as if “hides” darkened areas, creating a feeling of even less space. A central flat-shaped source will be suitable for central lighting if the ceiling is too low (less than 2.5 meters).

Point sources on the ceiling, working from one control center, uniformly illuminating the entire room are always relevant. In the rooms you can additionally use sconce  and table lamps, if they correlate with the main lamp. The less diverse and dissonant with each other interior items in the room, the simpler and more spacious it seems. In a small apartment, compartment doors or accordion doors would also be very appropriate. Then in the open state, they will not take up much space.

The variety and availability of modern finishing materials and materials for the manufacture of furniture allows us to overcome the limitations imposed by square meters. Properly planning a space, you can always visually compensate for its volume.

And observing the simple tips outlined in this article, you can organize your interior of a small apartment comfortably, comfortably, and most importantly as functionally as possible.

Most Russians inherited from the “stagnant times” disproportionate, rectangular, narrow rooms, more like solid corridors, than a full-fledged room for arranging personal space.

Narrow room

Narrow roomcreatesa lot of difficultiesin terms of interior decoration. To create a cozy room, no matter how rearranged the minimum set of furniture is quite difficult, but, nevertheless, there is always a way out.

Redistribution of space

One of the simplest and fastest ways to transform narrow rooms can be considered as the division of one large space into a smaller pair, with the help of drywall partitions. The partition itself will not take up much space, and the resulting premises will acquire a more or less correct square cross-section configuration, especially if it is possible to increase their area due to the demolition of other walls.

Changing space with decor elements

Modern construction industry, the latest materials, paints and original design solutions of specialists, can drastically change the space of a narrow room without building partitions. It has long been known that light, color, well-chosen accessories and furniture can change space beyond recognition. For example, a small bright folding sofa set across a narrow room zoned the space by dividing it into two working rooms:

  • Having examined the sofa, you get a full bedroom;
  • Having collected it and putting a couple of small wicker chairs and a small glass coffee table, you turn an intimate sleeping area into a cozy living room;
  • Behind the back of the sofa, you can easily equip an office or study space for the student by substituting a chest of drawers or a regular writing desk to the back.

In addition, a high bookcase, an openwork bookcase, one of two-sided fireplaces, or even an LCD TV on a bedside table can serve as a room divider. Now you should pay attention to how you can change the space with the help of light and color gamut.

The play of color and light in a narrow room

Attention should be paid to the fact that the color palette, correctly chosen in each particular case, is visually able to expand the space. You can’t do without bold design solutions. So, for example, whose walls are painted in bright bright or pastel colors, will look more voluminous. Some interior designers use this method: a transverse wall of a narrow room is covered with wallpaper with a geometric pattern placed horizontally, and on the longitudinal walls, on the contrary, they paste wallpaper with a vertical pattern. Here the main thing is to choose a wallpaper with a similar, one-type pattern, then the unity of space will be preserved and the appearance of an expanded room will be created.

You can use a very popular design trick - the game of contrasts.  But here it is important not to “overdo it” when choosing colors, otherwise, instead of a cozy interior, you can get a tasteless, eye-hurt room.

Experienced designers in such cases use a combination of dark and light colors of paints.  Most often transverse walls are painted with dark tones, and longitudinal, respectively, light. Gradient coloring of walls is sometimes used. This is when one darker color gradually turns into a light gamut of the same hue, or vice versa, a contrast. So, from red, you can go to pink or cream color, warm lilac will look good with the transition to a cold blue or cold pale yellow or golden color.

Trying to transform a narrow room, use the "play of light."  Properly directed rays can expand it, but the direction should be strictly horizontal. Interestingly, the light strips, located under the ceiling and directed vertically, raise the ceiling and it seems that the room is slightly higher than it really is. We hope that with the help of our advice you will manage to make your room more comfortable and beautiful.

We told you about the most different apartments: about tiny and large, about classical and Scandinavian, about those in which only one person lives, and about intended for large families. Today we decided to put together all the smallest apartments that we met. We want to do this in order to demonstrate how differently people approach the arrangement of their homes. Someone prefers to live in a studio layout and demolishes unnecessary walls, and someone even in a small space erects additional partitions to separate the second room.

All our heroes are united by two things: they were engaged in repairing on their own, without attracting designers, and they truly love their homes and the resulting result. We hope that you will find for yourself a couple of interesting ideas that you can borrow!

This one-room apartment in the standard five-story building on Pionerskaya was given to the director of the network beauty salon Yulia and the entrepreneur Pavel from her grandmother. The owners decided to do a major overhaul with redevelopment. They demolished the walls, combined the kitchen area with the living room, and carried the bedroom into a niche that was closed with curtains if desired. Storage is mainly concentrated in the closet, which performs the demarcation function between the bedroom and the corridor.

In the apartment of the photographer Anastasia there are practically no walls. The only room that is separated from the common space of the studio is the toilet (I remember, I was very happy about this circumstance during the reportage), the bath is adjacent to the kitchen. The cloakroom is hidden behind a brick wall, and the mistress appointed a balcony as a workplace.

The owner of the apartment, Anur, is an adherent of minimalism, due to which it was quite easy for him to furnish his studio. However, there is everything you need: a bed for sleeping, a wardrobe for storage, a small kitchen area, a washing machine in the hallway, and even a full bath.

The owner of the apartment in the center of the city, Valeria, decided to do the redevelopment before entering the standard odnushku. She reduced the size of the bedroom to a minimum, separated the small dressing room, and combined the remaining space of the kitchen with the living room, thereby creating a place for guests. The refrigerator, contrary to the advice, Valeria made very small and placed it in the lower part of the headset. According to her, she alone is enough for him.

Perhaps, this is the smallest dvushka, which we happened to see. Entering the apartment, the guests enter the hallway, from there to the living room, then into the kitchen (the door to the small bathroom comes from it) and from there to the nursery. That is, all rooms are essentially passable.

Redevelopment during the renovation was insignificant: the owners changed all the doorways and slightly increased the area of the bathroom due to the entrance hall. First, in a small room (now a nursery) there was a bedroom, and the living room served exclusively for receiving friends and holding home parties.

For two of us we had enough space. And when my daughter appeared, then the subtleties of planning began. For the first couple of years, Ira lived with us in the same room, and when she grew a little bit, my husband and I gave up a small room to her, retooling her as a nursery, and we ourselves moved into the living room.

By the way, after a year and a half we visited the hostess Olga and her daughters in their area already 96 m 2. The living space is located in the neighboring house and its purchase became possible due to the sale of the two-room apartment, which was discussed, and the summer cottage. For the family, you can only enjoy!

The couple, Elena and Dmitry, used to rent this odnushka, but at some point they realized that they wanted to repair it and move it. Redevelopment was not done, but redecoration took two months, during which the owners managed to change the finish and buy new furniture.

The color palette of the apartment was given a bright turquoise wallpaper in the corridor. Helen recalls that as soon as she and her husband saw them in the store, they immediately mentally designed the whole apartment in this color. Naturally, it had to be diluted with something. White was chosen as the primary color because it visually expands the space and creates a feeling of spaciousness. Elena shares that the dust is almost invisible, but it is not worth dropping the crumbs: they immediately catch the eye.

Initially, the apartment was a rectangle without walls with two large windows. Before hostess Yana, the question arose of how to harmoniously organize the space and delimit zones. I really wanted to allocate a separate bedroom with a window for 40 m2, but it would block all the natural light in the kitchen. However, it was decided to sacrifice sunlight in favor of a place where you can retire. As a result, the apartment has a hall with a dressing room, hidden behind mirrored doors, a combined bathroom, a kitchen (5.5 m 2), a living room and a dining room (15 m 2) and a small bedroom (8 m 2).

And the Scandinavian style with its characteristic light finish allowed the space to look more spacious than it really is.

The unusual two-story apartment has a non-standard layout: two floors, stretched like cars, are located one above one. On the first tier, the hosts (creative young couple) placed a mini-kitchen with a bar, a living room area and even a hammock under the stairs, on the second - a bedroom, a combined bathroom and a tiny dressing room. Due to the variety of textures in the decoration and bold decisions (which is a bathroom decorated in the style of superheroes), the apartment looks interesting and fun.

The landlord in question is a married couple with two children. When they bought odnushku in Vidnoe, they immediately decided that they need to make redevelopment, separating a small bedroom with space for a cot. The room turned out to be small, but cozy.

In our family, everyone loves to sleep in this room. Lack of windows does not bother us. On the contrary, after the flights we are very tired, and we like that we can go to bed in total darkness. The husband even says that he cannot sleep in the living room, since it is very light there.

Despite the lack of windows, the bedroom is quite bright due to artificial lighting and small glass blocks in the wall, which let in a bit of window light.

A young couple lives in a spacious studio: advertiser Sveta and jeweler Philip. The apartment is on the twenty-first floor in a monolithic house, and the layout of the room was free. She was fully engaged in repairing Sveta: at the time of the alteration of the apartment she became both a designer and a decorator. Despite the fact that the possible location of the walls was planned with bricks, Sveta decided that she would give up the wall separating the kitchen and the living room, as well as give a part of the kitchen space to the storage room. This was the right decision: in a small room there is a washing machine, which did not fit into the bathroom.

All these examples of small apartments prove that a room of absolutely any size can be beautiful, cozy and functional. If there is a desire, enthusiasm and Quarterblog for inspiration, then you will definitely find those ideas that are suitable for your home and help it look spacious and stylish, regardless of the number of meters.
