To grow pineapple at home you will need fresh pineapple, a pot and an irresistible desire to try yourself in gardening. If everything you need is ready, it's time to read the instructions.

Training

Step 1. Buy fresh pineapple

Select the store, which then serves as the basis for growing.

Pay close attention to the look and remember that a suitable pineapple has:

  • solid green leaves with no yellow or brown blotches;
  • golden brown and firm to the touch skin;
  • pleasant sweetish aroma.

Small flies should not fly around the fruit. Check also the base of the leaves - sometimes the midges sit there.

Step 2. Separate the top of the pineapple

Hold the fruit with one hand, take the leaves at the bottom with the other and unscrew them. Do this carefully so as not to damage the tip.

If you are afraid, cut off the top of the pineapple, leaving a minimal amount of pulp. Carefully remove unnecessary residues of fruit around the leaves with your hands. From the top will grow a new pineapple, so make sure that it is not damaged.

Step 3. Let the leaves dry

In the inverted position, leave the top for a week. The stem and base should dry out.

Step 4. Germinate the roots of the tops

Pour water into a glass. The container neck should be wide enough so that the stem fits freely, but does not sink completely there.

If there are no suitable dishes, you can use the following life hacking: insert a few toothpicks into the base of the stem at a height of 3-4 centimeters from the bottom and use them as a support. When immersing the top in water, the toothpicks will not let it sink into the glass completely.

Put the glass in a well-lit, dry place and be patient. Roots will form a few weeks. At this time, it is important to periodically change the water and avoid sudden changes in temperature.

The stalk will be ready for planting when the length of the roots reaches 5-6 centimeters. This is enough to take root well in the soil.

Landing

Step 1. Choose a suitable pot.

The height of the pot should be about 15 centimeters. Fill it with soil, which is 30% organic. Also suitable soil for cacti. They, like pineapples, love one kind of soil.

Step 2. Plant the top.

When planting, make sure that there is only a stem with roots in the ground. It is not necessary to cover the soil with soil.

Step 3. Water the plant and leave in a warm place.

After the first watering, monitor the condition of the soil - it should always be wet. To do this, water the plant at least once a week. The room temperature should not be below 18 ° C. It is also important that the sprout receives a lot of sunlight. You can create a greenhouse effect: cover the pot with a plastic bag to accelerate the growth of pineapple.

Step 4. Watch the flower appear

Pineapple fully take root in six months. From the center of the leaves will appear a flower - a red cone, from which blue petals will later form, and then a fruit.

Everyone's favorite exotic fruit pineapple is known among adults and children. In countries with a tropical and subtropical climate, it has long and very successfully grown on an industrial scale, but if you carefully read the claims of this crop, even in the harsh conditions of the Russian winter, you can plant and grow this amazing plant from the top in an ordinary flower pot at home on a window sill.

Where does pineapple come from?

Pineapple - a perennial herb-epiphyte, with compacted fleshy leaves, gathered in one strong, thick-knot, called the rosette. This rosette forms a massive stem with a peduncle on top. Peduncle is usually formed high, up to 50 cm, with a spike inflorescence and a rosette with a bract.

Pineapple has a very exotic appearance and looks great in a pot

Pineapple is from Brazil, although this plant is cultivated in many countries with a similar climate.

In tropical countries, pineapple is grown commercially.

Appeared in Russia under Catherine the Second and was grown in public greenhouses.

How to plant pineapple

Surely every second, who ever bought a pineapple on the market, wondered whether it was possible to grow this culture at home. This is possible despite the fact that pineapple is used to grow in a tropical climate. But, before proceeding with the cultivation of this crop, it is necessary to select the desired fruit and root it according to the rules in an acceptable capacity and soil.

Fruit selection

The fruit, which is purchased for rooting the top, should be moderately ripe with a beautiful and intact tufted. Buying pineapple for planting should be in season - in the summer or early fall, since in winter the fruit is stored in cold rooms and the outlet can be frozen and lifeless by the time of purchase.

Pineapple seedlings or tuft, must have a dense green foliage, be firm to the touch, and look healthy.

Choosing pineapple fruit for planting, focus on the state of the tops

If the leaves began to turn yellow and dry, then it is better not to take this fruit for planting.

The center of the pineapple pulp should be yellow, not strongly hardened. The fruit of the correct pineapple usually exudes a pleasant aroma, has no dents or signs of illness.

Top separation

In order to separate the top of the pineapple from the fruit, it is necessary to clasp the fruit with one hand and the pineapple tops with the other and turn the tuft to yourself, as if unscrewing it from the pineapple. Stem gently out of the pulp.

If difficulties arise with twisting, the separation procedure can be performed with a knife, cutting the leaves out of the fruit with the root.

Pineapple tuft can be separated from the fruit by twisting it.

Cut will have at an angle of about 45 degrees, and then, in order to avoid rot, remove the flesh from the tuft of the stem and lower leaves, exposing the trunk.

The tuft is dried in a vertical position in a ventilated room for several weeks.

pineapple cuttings must be carefully wiped before planting

This procedure is necessary for the healing of all damage caused by the cutting during separation from the fetus. During the time until the cutting is dried, the nutrients will be concentrated in the area of rooting.

How to root and plant the top

In order for the pineapple top to take root, it is placed in an opaque container with room temperature water about 4 cm and left in a moderately lit place without drafts and temperature drops for a week.

Pineapple stalk will stand in the water for several days before putting on tiny roots

Video: rooting pineapple tops

While the stalk is taking root, there is time to find suitable soil and pot for the future pineapple.

Capacity will serve any flower pot with drainage holes, the size of which should be quite a bit larger than the size of the cutting.

An impressive drainage layer of expanded clay or pebbles is laid out on the bottom of the pot, about 4 cm, and then the soil mix consisting of sand and peat in equal parts is poured. Two to three days before planting, it is recommended to carry out disinfecting procedures for the soil.  To do this, you can simply spill boiling water.

This method of tillage at the same time moistens the substrate and makes it at the desired temperature, since pineapple cannot be planted in cold soil. In such conditions, you can safely plant a tuft without rooting in water.

Video: landing tops in the ground without rooting

The crest is placed in the prepared soil to the lowest leaves. Around the cutting soil should be carefully rammed and again well shed future pineapple with warm water. Next, the cutting is sprayed and covered with a package to create a greenhouse atmosphere.

After placing the pineapple tuft in the pot, cover it with a package to create artificial tropics

Such a greenhouse is left in a warm and lighted place, but without a direct hit of the rays, since we do not need the greenhouse effect.

Pineapple can root deeply in the soil only in a month and during all this time it is completely undesirable to water it, but the pineapple tuft will respond to spraying with gratitude.

An excellent substrate for rooting bromeliads is sphagnum moss.

Sphagnum moss - a great substrate for epiphytes

It is hygroscopic and breathes well, and when it turns pale at the edges, it becomes clear that it is time to water the plant.

Successful rooting of the tuft entails transplanting the plant to a permanent place where exactly the same soil is waiting for it as that used for rooting. After the transplantation, the pineapple is covered again with a cap for a couple of weeks, it is kept in a more lighted place and is still sprayed.

Since the birthplace of pineapple - the tropics, then, accordingly, he got used to the light, warm and humid air. The pineapple tolerates the drought with endurance, and growing it in room conditions is not difficult and can be done by everyone.

How to care for decorative pineapple at home

Pineapple is a photophilous epiphyte, so it is best to place a plant pot in the south or southeast window, but even if your window sill is illuminated for about 12 hours a day, being cold it can destroy the root system of the plant from overcooling, because even you can water the pineapple only very warm water. To prevent the roots from cooling, a pot with pineapple can only be placed on an insulating underlay or insulated sill, and the safest thing is not to place it on the window at all, but to install a flower stand or table next to the window.

Too far from the window to place a homemade pineapple is not worth it, it will miss the light

Do not think that if you get used to the tropics, the pineapple will feel great in an apartment with central heating, it is not. This culture does not tolerate heat and dry air, therefore it is necessary to maintain the air temperature during the day within 22 ° -28 ° C, and at night it should not fall below 18 ° C.

What to feed and water

Watering pineapple should be only warm or even hot water. It is necessary to water rarely, but it is plentiful and only after completely dried earthen coma.

During the period of active growth of pineapple from April to September, proper watering is a very important condition for the content. Pineapples should be watered with exceptionally warm or hot water, settled, and best of all, rainwater, which does not contain lime impurities. Watering should be rare, but abundant, and only when the soil is dry.

If you do not allow the soil to dry, then the roots of the plant will rot, and if the pineapple does not have enough moisture, its tips will dry out and the pineapple will begin to lose its decorative effect.

Watering pineapple, you can pour water from above, so that it falls into the leaf axils and remains there. This moisture will serve as additional nutrition for the roots and provide a good state of health of the plant due to evaporation.

Lovers of cheating will love watering the pineapple, since you can start doing it right from its top.

In addition to watering and leaf irrigation, pineapple will be grateful to regularly wipe the leaves from dust with a wet swab.

Fertilizing pineapple is recommended no more than twice a month and a mullein solution that is infused in warm water for a day and then diluted 10 times is considered an ideal feeding. A liter of the resulting solution will last for a month and a half.

Good for pineapple and mineral fertilizers for indoor plants or complex for bromeliads, but the concentration of feedings should be two times less than the standard instructions.

After the pineapple is flowering, it should be fed mainly with nitrogen-containing means for the rapid formation of the fruit.

How to bloom indoor pineapple in a pot

The timing of flowering pineapple grown at home is usually unpredictable. Approximately 3 years after planting the pineapple, a flowering period begins, which lasts about two weeks and is accompanied by a light aroma.

Bud formed at the very top of the central stem. Flowers can be bright blue and pink or purple, they are able to change the shade; arranged in a spiral, unfold one after the other and only for one day.

Pineapple blooms are inconspicuous and are unlikely to surprise anyone, but this process cannot fail to impress fans of exotic.

Pineapple blooms brightly, but very briefly

After flowering, the period of fruiting begins, and small fruits are formed, which are easy to root. It is worth noting that these rooted fruits will bloom even more likely their parent.

Small pineapple fruit is able to quickly take root and bloom earlier than its parent.

One fruit left on the maternal outlet can grow large enough. The term of its ripening can be from three months to six months and depends on the grade of pineapple and the conditions of its content. The most favorable period for pineapple fruiting is summer.

After the fruiting stage, the pineapple is killed. This is a normal natural process for the bromeliad family.

It happens that even with good care pineapple does not bloom. In such cases, it can be made to blossom artificially stimulated with ethylene gas. To this end, five grams of calcium carbide is dissolved in a half-liter container and infused day closed. After the liquid is drained and left only the sediment. This precipitate is a solution of ethylene, which must be placed in the core of a pineapple outlet for a week. A month and a half after such stimulation, the plant should enter the flowering phase.

Pineapple hibernation

In winter, pineapple hibernates, but this does not mean that it does not need to be watered. Watering pineapple must be moderate. It will be enough one abundant watering a week or two watering a week, but a smaller volume. The soil should not be wet all the time, since the rest period at the pineapple takes place at a temperature of about 15 ° C, and at low temperatures the gulf can turn into rotting of the roots or the socket.

Top dressing is not carried out until March-April and the lighting will also have to be slightly reduced, as well as the temperature, otherwise the pineapple will not fall asleep and will suffer from a lack of food and heat.

In the spring, the pineapple will gradually wake up by itself: new leaves will begin to appear in it.   If the awakening does not occur, it is necessary to increase the amount of light and transplant the plant into a new soil.

If you want the pineapple to stay awake during the winter, it is important to ensure the plant to be more bright (at least 10 hours a day) and to maintain an average temperature of 22 ° C-23 ° C. In addition, you must continue to feed the pineapple at least once a month.

Diseases and pests

Precisely because pineapple has long and very firmly established itself among other indoor plants, it, just like everyone else, has become susceptible to the attack of insect pests. These and other troubles that await the pineapple in the conditions of the apartment, are considered in the table along with measures of prevention and prophylaxis.

Pineapple Breeding

Pineapple, as a true grassy, dies after fruiting, but it does not happen immediately and may even last for several years. In this case, the mother bush during this time creates around itself a lot of small shoots that can be successfully seated in independent pots. These shoots will bloom much earlier than priroshchennye tops.

Breeding shoots

Even before flowering, pineapple forms a certain number of side shoots - basal shoots.

Tiny process on maternal pineapple outlet

They can be cut off or broken off from the maternal outlet, as soon as they grow about a centimeter by 20 in height. The cuts are sprinkled with ash or crushed coal and left to dry for a week in a cool and ventilated room.

Rooting shoots in a vessel with water or in prepared soil should be only when the sections or breaks on the processes finally healed.

The optimal soil for rooting is considered layered. To do this, at the bottom of the tank, sod ground is poured on 3-4 cm, then there is a layer of sheet humus and then about 10 cm of river sand. This is one of the rooting options; many growers plant shoots in mixed compound soil.

The soil should not be cold, its temperature can vary between 24 ° -28 ° C.

After planting the shoot, the pot is covered with a film or a sprout, but so that the polyethylene does not touch the leaves.

When pineapple shoots take root, they will soon grow

To do this, you can put supports from three or four sides, sticking sticks into the pot around the appendix.

Put the young pineapple in a sunny and warm place with a diffused, but bright light and high humidity.

Seed propagation

Seed breeding method is not the easiest, but quite affordable.

Seeds can rise both in the second month and in the sixth one: therefore, the seed method is therefore considered difficult, since it takes time and patience.

It looks like a pineapple shoot at the second leaf stage

Seedlings can be fed bird droppings, spreading a teaspoon of dry matter per liter of water, at the age of the third leaf.

A pick of young shoots usually occurs when they are six or seven centimeters high.

Growing a pineapple from its top may seem like a fascinating adventure, and the very presence of such exotic in the conditions of an apartment can infect with this venture those struck by pineapple splendor of friends and acquaintances.

Sakura is most often associated with Japan and its culture. Picnics under the canopy of flowering trees have long become an integral attribute of the meeting of spring in the Land of the Rising Sun. The fiscal and academic year here begins on April 1, when gorgeous cherry blossoms bloom. Therefore, many significant moments in the life of the Japanese pass under the sign of their flowering. But sakura grows well in cooler regions - certain species can be successfully grown even in Siberia.

It is very interesting for me to analyze how the tastes and preferences of people to certain foods have changed over the centuries. What was once considered tasty and was a subject of trade, over time, lost its value and, conversely, new fruit crops conquered their markets. Quince is cultivated for more than 4 thousand years! And even in the 1st century d. er It was known about 6 varieties of quince and even then described the methods of its reproduction and cultivation.

We prepared a hearty, incredibly appetizing and simply elementary dish for you today. This sauce is one hundred percent universal, as it fits into each side dish: vegetables, pasta, and anything else. Gravy with chicken and mushrooms will save you in moments when there is no time or do not want to think too much about what to cook. Take you favorite side dish (you can do it in advance so that everything is hot), add sauce and dinner is ready! This magic wand.

Farming refers to such human activities, the successful outcome of which is not always directly proportional to the efforts made. Unfortunately, nature does not necessarily act as our ally in growing plants, and often even, on the contrary, throws up new challenges. Increased reproduction of pests, abnormal heat, late return frosts, hurricane wind, drought ... And one of the springs gave us another surprise - the flood.

With the arrival of the summer season, the question arises of growing strong and healthy seedlings of our favorite vegetables: cabbage, tomatoes, sweet pepper, eggplant and many other crops. Along with this, the question arises - how to grow decent seedlings and in the future to get from it healthy plants and a decent harvest? For example, I have already grown up seedlings for a single season and protected my garden from diseases with the help of biological preparations Alirin-B, Hamair, Gliokladin, Trihotsin.

I will allow myself to confess my love today. In love with ... lavender. One of the best unpretentious, evergreen and beautiful flowering shrubs, which can be successfully grown in your garden. And if someone thinks that lavender is Mediterranean or at least southern, then you are mistaken. Lavender grows well in more northern regions, even in the Moscow region. But in order to grow it, you need to know some rules and features. About them and will be discussed in this article.

Having once tasted such an invaluable product as a pumpkin, it is already difficult to stop searching for all the new recipes for serving it to the table. Pumpkin in Korean, despite its spiciness and spice, has a fresh and delicate flavor. After cooking, you need to cover the salad and let it brew for at least 15 minutes. I have a very juicy and sweet pumpkin pumpkin, so there is no need to knead it. If the pumpkin is of a different sort, then you can knead it with your hands so that it slightly lets out the juice.

Salad, as the earliest and unpretentious green culture, has always been held in high esteem by gardeners. Spring planting most gardeners usually start with sowing lettuce, parsley and radish. Recently, the desire for healthy nutrition and a large selection of greenery in supermarkets make gardeners think, and which of these plants can be grown on their beds? In this article we will talk about the nine most interesting, in our opinion, varieties of lettuce.

The bloom of indoor roses is always “attached” to another “bonus” - moodiness. When it is said that it is easy to grow roses in rooms, they are cunning. For flowering indoor roses need to create literally perfect conditions. And the tireless care, attention and response to any signals from the plant - the main key to success. True, however whimsical roses may be, it is quite possible to grow them in a pottery format. And careful flower growers should not be afraid of this.

Pollock is best cooked in the form of a casserole, separating the fillets from the skin and bones. Pieces of fish are mixed with colorful vegetable set, poured with cheese sauce, sour cream and eggs. Such fish casserole has a presentable appearance, and its taste is a fancy mixture of subtle nuances. Vegetables and fillets are soaked with sour cream, the cheese hardens with a ruddy crust, eggs tie together all the ingredients. Pieces of fish are plentifully poured with Italian herbs, and the pollock acquires an unusual piquancy.

Despite the fact that the calendar spring begins in March, one can only truly experience the awakening of nature with the advent of flowering plants in the garden. Nothing indicates the arrival of spring as eloquently as the glades of flowering primroses. Their appearance is always a small holiday, because winter has receded, and a new garden season awaits us ahead. But, apart from spring primroses, there is still something to see and admire in April.

Growing rapidly and turning into wild thickets, the hogweed disrupts the established ecosystem and suppresses all other plants. Essential oils contained in the fruits and leaves of the Hogweed cause severe forms of dermatitis. At the same time it is much more difficult to fight it than with other common weeds. Fortunately, today a means has appeared in free sale that can in a short time save your lot from most of the weeds, including the Hogweed.

Carrots come in various colors: orange, white, yellow, purple. In orange carrots, beta-carotene and lycopene predominate, yellow color is due to the presence of xanthophylls (lutein); White carrots have a lot of fiber, and violet contains anthocyanin, beta and alpha carotenes. But, as a rule, gardeners choose varieties of carrots for sowing not by the color of the fruit, but by the time of their ripening. We will tell about the best early, middle and late varieties in this article.

We recommend a fairly easy recipe for a pie with an appetizing chicken and potato filling. An open pie with chicken and potatoes is an excellent hearty dish, which is suitable for a dense snack, it is very convenient to take a couple of pieces of this pastry on the road. The cake is baked in the oven for one hour at 180 degrees. After that, lay it on a wooden surface, pre-releasing it from the mold. It is enough to cool the pastries slightly and you can start tasting.

You can grow pineapple regardless of region of residence and climate. It is enough to purchase pineapple in the store and carry out simple manipulations.

Selection of pineapple for cultivation, preparation of the outlet

Any time of year is suitable for growing pineapple, if the room is warm and there is enough sunlight. If the region is not in, then it is better to plant pineapples by the end of spring or in summer.

To grow a pineapple from the fruit will need its tip, it is also called a crown or rosette. A new plant will be grown from it.

Secrets of growing pineapple:

  • First you need to choose a suitable pineapple for growing. Having come to the supermarket you need to choose a ripe fruit. The leaves should be a healthy color, that is, green, not brown or yellow. They should be firm and firm.
  • The fruit must be ripe. No need to take a pineapple with a green skinned, it should be yellow-golden color.
  • Overripe pineapple is also not suitable. To determine this factor you need to move one sheet. It should not quickly return to its original position.
  • Pineapple does not always take root and begins to grow. In order not to waste time in vain, it is better to take a few fruits. There are a lot of dishes with pineapples, so it will not disappear. If all the fruits germinate, it will be possible to give them to relatives or friends.
  • There should not be any gray or brown spots on the bottom of the leaves. This is a sign that the pineapple is affected by insects.
  • The top should be carefully cut while not touching the flesh. If the flesh falls, it can cause the rest of the plant to rot. The knife with which the socket will be cut must be sharp, so as not to damage the core.
  • Leaves at the top should not be much. The lower leaves are removed, that is, a few centimeters of bare trunk remain. Now this part of the pineapple is deposited in the fresh air to dry a little.
  • After 3 days, the top of the pineapple is placed in the water. It should not fall, the water will cover the fruit only a couple of centimeters. Now we need to wait for the roots to appear.
  • Air should flow freely into the water tank. The roots will appear in about two weeks. So that the process is successful, the vessel is set aside in a dry place, where little sunlight gets. The procedure is similar to transplanting cacti, the base should dry out a little.

  Rooting the tops, pineapple care

At the bottom of the pot fits any drainage, for example, expanded clay. For cultivation of pineapple at home any suitable universal soil from the store. It is necessary to immediately select the place where the future plant will develop, since it does not like a change of environment and conditions. You can prepare the soil yourself.

It will include:

  • Chernozem
  • Sand
  • Charcoal

The listed components need to be taken in identical proportions. Rosette transfer is done no earlier than a year later, when the plant begins to grow. As they grow, the pineapple will also need to be transplanted into fresh ground and a larger pot, but not too often.

If the plant has already faded, then it is no longer transplanted, only daughter outlets. Neutrality of the soil should be 4.5-5.0. Another type of soil that is suitable for pineapple -.

To grow pineapple at home, the temperature must be at least 20 degrees.

Because of its origin, the plant loves heat and sun. In summer, the pot with pineapple is transferred to the south side of the room;

In winter, temperatures can be 15 degrees, but not less. The optimum temperature is within 16-18 degrees. The first fruits on homemade pineapple will appear in about 4 years. Depending on the conditions, this period may increase or decrease. The term of ripening of one fruit is 6 months. When they appear, you need to stop making fertilizer and bother the tree. If the plant does not actively continue to grow, you can use organic fertilizers. Minerals are temporarily abandoned.

When the period of fruiting takes place, the next two or three years the plant will give new shoots and will die.

New shoots can also be rooted and get more trees. They will give the roots much faster than from the outlet and the fruits will appear earlier. Pineapple loves moisture. It is periodically sprayed. This is especially important if there are batteries in the room.

Top dressing and watering of pineapple:

  • Watering is carried out directly into the outlet. Two thirds of the sockets are filled with water at room temperature. In the warm season in the period of active growth, the water in the outlet should be constantly. In about a month, it can be removed from there and replaced with a more recent one.
  • Spring and summer two times. Special fertilizer is bought, which is suitable for all plants of the bromeliad family. It is diluted in water and also brought into the outlet.
  • In winter, pineapple is watered very rarely, it is done once a week. So that the water does not contribute to the rotting of the leaves, it is introduced into the water.

Pineapple can be propagated in other ways. In total there are three:

  1. Outlet
  2. Shoots
  3. Seeds

If the first option is suitable for everyone, then the following is more difficult. Finding a seed or growing tree is more difficult. Side shoots are cut from the pineapple immediately after the roots appear. It has already been mentioned that after flowering the plant dies, therefore it is necessary to cut off the shoots even before the pineapple has bloomed.

Bottom shoots appear before flowering, usually no more than three. They are cut with a sharp knife when they reach a length of at least 20 cm. The cut is treated with charcoal and left to dry in fresh air.

Since pineapple is not so often grown at home, it is recommended to add a stimulant to the coal.

Rooting can begin only when the slices have healed. Otherwise, the escape may rot. For a start, shoots are planted in the ground. The mixture is made in this way: on the bottom of the sod earth laid out, then leaf soil, humus and sand. No need to mix components, everything is laid out in layers.

Some growers practice rooting lateral shoots in loose mixtures with the addition of sand. You also need to monitor the temperature of the soil, it should be leveled at least 25 degrees.

The shoots in the pot covered with a film. In this case, the film should not touch the plant. The film will contribute to the dispersion of sunlight, restrain moisture and heat.

The first roots can be seen only in a few months, so you need to be patient. The plant must be periodically "tasted", remove the film for a few minutes for airing, maintain soil moisture.

When rooting occurs, several young leaves will appear. Now you can repot the plant in a separate pot. It is important not to forget about good drainage. Flowering will come no earlier than three years.

Pineapple can be propagated by seed:

  • The case is complicated, but quite real. They do not need to buy in the store, and extracted directly from the pulp of the fruit. Seeds are washed with a solution of potassium permanganate and dried.
  • The substrate for seeds is prepared from the following components: leaf earth, peat, sand. The seeds go down a couple of centimeters. After that the container is covered with a film or glass.
  • Pineapples can be transplanted into individual pots when they are 6 cm high. Next, the same care is taken as in the previous case.

Grow an exotic plant at home is not so difficult. Pineapples are not only beautiful, but also very useful.

More information can be found in the video.

Pineapples are among their most unusual tropical fruits in the world. Pineapple can be grown in a temperate climate zone under controlled conditions or in an apartment. Most often, for growing for decorative purposes, the pineapple fruit crown is used as a planting material; in this case, the most difficult cultivation step is to obtain the roots. But It is worth noting that it is possible to obtain a plant from pineapple seeds, here the problem is in the selection of seed material.

Having shown a certain amount of patience and care, maybe even grow your pineapple at home  on the windowsill. Of course, a full-sized plant and a large fruit cannot be achieved, but the overseas guest will undoubtedly become your favorite home plant.

Pineapple belongs to the bromeliad family and is related by family to some ornamental plants sold in nurseries. Plants of this family are interesting in that they accumulate water (dew) and nutrients in the places of attachment of leaves to the trunk, forming reservoirs. And from there, through the hairs, the moisture is absorbed by the plant; thus, bromeliads have adapted to survival in dry periods. Pineapple, however, uses roots as the main food source.

Growing pineapple from tuft.

First you need to buy a ripe pineapple. Here you will find comprehensive tips on how to pick a ripe pineapple. A crest suitable for planting pineapple should have healthy, strong, green living leaves, and the skin of the fruit should be golden brown. The presence of gray spots on the base of the leaves indicates the presence of worms, such pineapples for planting is better not to use. For greater likelihood, choose two pineapples, in case of the death of one of them, the experiment can be continued with the other, or you can immediately choose a stronger instance.

Then you need to prepare a pineapple crown for planting. Grasp all the leaves with your hand and turn it around slightly. The crest must be separated from the fruit with a small stem below. To do this, you can also use a knife, cutting off the top of the pineapple, but the remaining flesh must be separated from the crown, so that later no rotting occurs. Remove some of the lower leaves so that the base of the pineapple is exposed a few centimeters, then roots should appear from it. After pruning and cleaning, leave the pineapple for several days, so that the cut and the scars from the leaves will dry out and not rot.

To get the roots, use the simplest and, as practice shows, the most effective way: put the dried crown in a glass of water so that the water covers the bare trunk. Place a glass of pineapple on the windowsill next to your houseplants. Watch the water level and periodically replace the water completely, after about three weeks the pineapple should take root. When the roots reach a couple of centimeters in length, then the pineapple can be planted in the ground.

A mixture in equal proportions of soil for indoor plants, peat and river sand is suitable as a substrate for rooting. For the initial planting, take a small pot with a diameter approximately equal to the size of the crest. Organize a good drainage of expanded clay, so that with frequent irrigation there is no stagnant moisture and soil rot. Young pineapple likes the soil to be constantly wet, but not flooded. Also, it should not be under direct sunlight, but the place should be lit.

Rooting a homemade pineapple will take six to eight weeks. A good sign will be - the emergence of new leaves, it means the plant has taken root, put real roots and is ready to grow further. In the absence of signs of pineapple life after two months, you can think about re-planting a new plant.

In the future, the original leaves of the pineapple tuft will turn brown and die off, their place should be taken up by greens. As the old leaves die, they should be carefully cut. The grown pineapple should be watered no more than once a week.

After about one year of growth, the room pineapple needs to be transplanted into a more spacious pot with the addition of a soil mixture, the same in composition as the soil for cacti. Pineapple does not tolerate water stagnation, so high-quality drainage from gravel and expanded clay is a prerequisite for the successful cultivation of pineapple at home. During the winter months, the growth of pineapple stops, after a period of rest, in the spring development should continue. If this does not happen, the pineapple probably has already depleted the soil and the next transplant is required with the replacement of part of the old soil.

Care homemade pineapple. Light and temperature.

Pineapple is a tropical plant and cold, much less a frost will kill it. If you live in a temperate climate, your indoor pineapple can be placed on the balcony for the summer or taken out to the garden in a moderately lit place. Being in the open air stimulates its growth. Pineapple must be at least 6 hours a day in a well-lit place, regardless of the time of year.

In cold months, keep the plant indoors, free of drafts and away from heating appliances. In winter, place a pineapple tree on the south side for maximum sunlight. The optimum temperature for the pineapple is 22-26 degrees Celsius, if you are comfortable, then the room pineapple is doing well.

Watering and feeding pineapple in a pot.

Mature pineapple does not need frequent watering and is not badly adapted to droughts. When growing pineapple enough to water the plant once a week. When the plant is in the open air, sometimes the leaves can be sprayed with water and then the liquid will be absorbed by pineapple from the base of the leaves, and the surplus will quickly evaporate under the influence of the wind. The soil in the pot should not dry out completely, but on the other hand, the water should not be retained, but should flow to the maximum through the drainage. During the period of active growth room pineapple should be watered more often than in winter. In case of overflow and soil rotting (mold, marshy smell), the soil must be completely replaced, otherwise the plant may die.

Feed pineapple carefully, about once a month and only during the growing season. It is possible to feed with liquid fertilizers through spraying the leaves, but in this case, make sure that the nutrient mixture does not fall on the young leaves, otherwise they may be damaged.

Pests and diseases.

Indoor pineapple will be minimally affected by pests with proper care. However, even in the house a pineapple can attack a mealybug and various mites. These pests can be removed by washing the plant with soapy water and then washing it with clean water. It is possible to use insecticides, necessarily following the instructions of the drug.

Another disease that can affect your pineapple is rot of the core, caused by exposure to the fungus. The central leaves of the diseased plant become black and are easily pulled out of the trunk. If the fungus is affected, pineapple can be saved by pouring the fungicide into the core of the plant. If the remedy destroys the infection, the plant will release a side shoot; over time, the old barrel can be cut.

Flowering and fruiting pineapple at home.

Under natural conditions, pineapple takes up to 26 months to produce a new fruit. When growing pineapple at home, flowering time may change in any direction. Usually after about 16 months, when the pineapple reaches a height of at least 25 cm in height, you can count on the appearance of inflorescences. The bud begins to form at the top of the plant, gradually moving away from it on the upward stem, which is a continuation of the trunk. Within two months, flowering should begin, lasting two weeks. Bright blue flowers come off row by row. Each flower reveals just one day.

After the last flower has dried, the fruit begins to develop. The term of its development and ripening is from 3 to six months, depending on the conditions and varieties of pineapple.

Forced fruiting room pineapple.

Often when growing pineapple in a pot, flowering is delayed, or it may not happen at all. If the pineapple has developed enough and reached the right age, then it can be stimulated to bloom. Ethylene is a stimulant of forced fruiting of bromeliads. To obtain it, pour a teaspoon of calcium carbide in half a liter of water and keep the solution for a day in a closed jar. Then pour the liquid into another container, freeing it from the sediment. This water will be an aqueous solution of ethylene. Once a day for a week, pour 50 grams of the solution into the bases of the top leaves of the pineapple.

After this procedure, flowering should begin in 4-6 weeks. If this does not happen, then your room pineapple is not yet ready for fruiting, or it is sick.

After fruiting, pineapple, like any herb, will die, but this will occur gradually with the release of many side shoots, which are usually used for cultivation of pineapples on an industrial scale. Try to grow your pomegranate tree from seeds at home and achieve its fruiting.

It turns out that pineapples have some harmful properties, so you can not eat them all!
