Many types of citrus grow well at home. But how to grow a lemon from a bone, which would not only decorate the room with leathery dark green foliage, but also bear fruit?

It is the absence of ovaries on grown plants that often disappoints home citrus fruit. Indeed, in the best case, from the moment of planting to the flowering of a room lemon, 4 to 7 years pass. And yet getting lemon from the bone is a fascinating and not unpromising activity. A sturdy tree can be used as a stock, grafting a cultural specimen onto it, or pushing it to fruiting with competent care and crown shaping.

Preparation of seeds for growing lemon

If you are going to grow a lemon out of the stone at home, you need to be patient and some knowledge.

The main mistake of indoor plants lovers who failed in the cultivation of lemon or other citrus fruits was that seeds sown for a long time from the fruit and had dried out were used for sowing.

It is much better to remove the bones from ripe fresh lemons, rinse them with warm water and embed them in the substrate immediately, without drying. This will greatly increase the number of shoots.

And experienced citrus growers recommend another way to increase the speed and quality of germination. To do this, wet, intended for growing at home, lemon stones with a sharp knife are carefully released from the solid surface shell, which is the main obstacle to the germ hidden in the seed.

  Following this advice, you need to be extremely careful and cautious. An incorrect movement threatens to damage the cotyledons or the tender embryo, and then it will definitely not appear from the bone.

  If the lemon seeds remain in the shell, it is useful to immerse them in a growth stimulator solution for several hours, preventing the surface of the seeds from drying out between processing and planting.

Growing lemon from the stone at home

Before planting the lemon bones, choose shallow wide containers with mandatory drainage holes. A 2-centimeter layer of fine expanded clay or vermiculite is poured at the bottom of a pot or other container so that all excess moisture dangerous for delicate roots, flowing down, does not linger and leaves the soil in time.

Soil for growing lemon from the stone at home can be done independently by mixing garden soil, humus and sand. In such a substrate, it is useful to add a little crushed charcoal, which will reduce the risk of developing bacterial infections. If you do not have the necessary ingredients on hand, a ready-made citrus substrate is suitable, which is easy to buy at a specialty store.

  All the preparatory work carried out. Now it's time to start sowing. How to grow a lemon from the bone at home?

The best sowing time is the end of winter. Then sprouted shoots will receive good support in the form of increasing daylight hours.

Seeds are buried in a moist soil to a depth of about two centimeters. In one container you can plant several seeds at once. Since the first transplant is waiting for seedlings, when 3-4 leaves will appear on them, the plants will not interfere with each other.

Containers are determined in a greenhouse or put in heat, previously covered with a bag or film. Do not forget that all citrus fruits are thermophilic, therefore, to grow a lemon from a stone at home is possible only if you observe a certain temperature.

  Seedlings will not touch growth if the air and soil in the room is colder than +18 ° C. It is optimal if seed germination and subsequent growth take place at a temperature of 22 to 25 ° C, with constantly increased humidity, no drafts and other negative factors. Observance of simple rules, how to grow a lemon from a stone, allows you to get a friendly strong shoots.

On average, it takes from a week to a month from sowing until the emergence of sprouts. During this time, the soil in the pot can be carefully sprayed, but should be watered only with obvious signs of drying.

Care of seedlings of lemon seed

  With the emergence above the soil surface of green shoots, they gradually begin to accustom to room conditions, aerating and opening the greenhouse. When 3-4 leaves appear on a young lemon from a bone, the film is removed altogether, and the seedlings are sorted and transferred to their own small pots.

Since the seeds of the hybrid fruits do not always carry parental signs, citrus fruits, seeking to get a lemon out of the stone at home, are at risk of growing wild.

To understand how soon the tree will begin to bear fruit, and of what quality mature fruits will be, it is already possible by external signs. First of all, citrus cultivated trees are distinguished by a small number of thorns on the shoots.

Further care in the first year of seedlings is timely watering, transplanting and pinching for the initial formation of the crown of the future tree.
  In addition, plants:

  • in the summer months in 10–14 days they feed, alternating between a solution of humus and a liquid;
  • on cloudy days and in the cold season, additional lighting is provided with.

The duration of illumination in many ways affects the flowering and fruiting of plants from the tropical zone. Therefore, the acquisition of such lamps should attend to before you grow a lemon from a seed.

Transplantation for young lemons is carried out annually, and the plant should be transferred very carefully, without disturbing the root system. If the roots have not yet mastered the whole earthen room, you can get by replacing the surface layer.

  Being interested in how to grow a lemon from a stone, many enthusiasts are looking forward to seedlings first, and then the first flowers. But in order not to weaken the plant, the lemon should not be allowed to bear fruit until it reaches the age of 2-3 years. A lemon from a stone ripens for flowering, when there is only one flower per 15 leaves of its crown.

If earlier the formation of the ovary weakens the tree, nipping at the age of about a year only contributes to the formation of the crown and will lay the foundation for future good yields. Therefore, from a very young plant, it is necessary to remove all shoots directed deep into the crown, pinch the tops of excessively long shoots, and also sometimes turn the pot with a tree so that it is lit and developed as evenly as possible.

Part 1. Planting pits

Part 2. The appearance of the first shoots

Part 3. Transplant seedlings

Lemon grown in a pot on the windowsill will saturate the air in the house with volatile production and essential oils, protecting it from infectious diseases and bacteria. And so that a miniature tree regularly pleased not only with its appearance, but also with its fruits, it must be planted. You can purchase seedlings in specialized stores, but it is more interesting and cheaper to plant a bone in the ground and wait until it turns into a young sprout.

Choosing planting material

Where can I get lemon seed? Go to the supermarket or market, choose the largest fruit of a rich yellow color and get a bone out of it. The main thing is that the citrus peel is not stained and other damage. In planting material taken from a bent or rotted specimen, an infection or a disease may lurk, which will destroy fragile shoots that have spiked out of the ground.

Bought lemon neatly cut, trying not to touch the shell of the seeds with a blade, and remove the bones. Planting material is immediately sorted: large specimens are left, small ones are thrown away, because they rarely sprout.

It is advisable to plant the seeds in pots immediately while they are still wet. But if in the cabinet there are several dry lemon kernels, which are just over a month or two, the billet is soaked in warm water for several hours, and then buried in the ground.

Lemons are also grown from cuttings, which can be taken from acquaintances or neighbors. Cut a young twig from a fruit-bearing tree, put it in water, add heteroauxin and wait 24 hours. On the handle should be at least 3 buds, and the parent lemon must necessarily give at least 6-10 citrus per year.

Soil and pots

Some domestic trees grow up to 8–10 m in height, others stop at around 3–4 m. Beginners who first practice lemons try to plant a seed or stalk at once into a huge pot or wooden box. The plant needs space, but when there is too much of it, the root system develops incorrectly. Therefore, in the first stage, a small clay pot or a disposable plastic cup will suffice.

You can create a container for growing lemon from the bottle:

  1. Cut off half or third. Discard the top with the cap, leaving the bottom of the bottle.
  2. Make a lot of small holes in the bottom to ensure air circulation.
  3. Put a homemade pot on a plastic plate or tray so that excess water runs off on the stand, not on the window sill.
  4. Fill the bottle with earth and plant lemon seed in it.

You can grow citrus seedlings in a flower pot, several at once, but there should be a distance between them. It is recommended to mentally draw an equilateral triangle on the surface of the earth and insert 1–2 grains in each vertex of the geometric figure.

Used for the cultivation of lemons and wooden rectangular boxes. Between seeds retreat by 15–20 cm, so that the root system has room for development. Regardless of the chosen container, a drainage layer 1–1.5 cm high is placed on the bottom of the pot or box. If it is absent, moisture begins to accumulate, air circulates poorly and fungus appears in the ground. The lemon root system rots and the plant disappears.

As drainage use:

  • small pebbles or pebbles;
  • small pieces of pottery;
  • grated foam;
  • coarse sand;
  • haydite or shredded wine cork.

Tip: In order to provide the plant with a breeding ground, it is recommended to put a layer of peat, dried cow or horse manure, or some moss on top of the drainage. The top dressing height is 1.5–2 cm, the ground goes further.

Ideal soil
  Lemon is considered an unpretentious plant that can take root in any land. The main thing is to be warm and have enough moisture. Often the seeds are planted in a mixture of turf soil, river sand and humus. More experienced gardeners add wood ash to the soil, which will feed weak sprouts.

Suitable for growing citrus and land intended for indoor plants. You can buy soil in flower shops, it is desirable to add a little peat to the soil. If lemon cuttings are planted in pots, a layer of sand is poured over the ground. This helps citrus to take root and settle down in a new place.

Landing process

In the ground, make a small indentation, about 1.5–2 cm, slightly moisten the soil and stick several seeds into it. It is recommended to take 2–3 grains per one well, as part of the planting material may be empty and unviable. If several sprouts have been proclaimed from the fossa at once, the most robust and healthy specimen is left, the rest are carefully pulled out or cut to the very root.

How it all happens:

  1. Put seeds into the moistened soil, sprinkle them with earth and lightly tamp the soil.
  2. Sprinkle the ground with warm distilled or melt water using a spray bottle.
  3. Cover the pot with a plastic bag that will create a greenhouse effect.
  4. Put the lemons in a room where the temperature does not fall below +18. Before the appearance of the first shoots, the seeds do not need light, therefore citruses can be kept in any room.
  5. Periodically open the film and ventilate the ground in pots, regularly moisten the soil with a spray bottle, but make sure that the ground is not too wet and damp.

With cuttings do a little differently:

  1. A branch that stood for several days in a special solution, planted in the ground after the appearance of thin roots.
  2. The plant is buried so deep that only two buds remain on the surface, the rest should be hidden under the ground.
  3. The cutting at the first time needs abundant watering, because the lemon does not have strong roots capable of pulling moisture out of the soil.
  4. The plant feels comfortable at a temperature of + 18–20 degrees.
  5. The citrus cutting will take about 1.5–2 months to finally take root in the pot and begin to grow actively.

Tip: If you overdo it with watering, and the earth can not dry out, do not wait for the appearance of mold. The pot is freed from wet soil and filled with new dry soil in which a lemon is transplanted.

Little trick
  It is possible to cover the sprouted lemon shoots not only with a package, but also with an ordinary glass jar. Put the container neck down to create a greenhouse effect. Lemons are pulled out faster in humid conditions, reminiscent of a tropical climate. If citruses were planted in a pot in winter or early spring, the plant is placed next to the battery or heater, and watered 3 times a week.

Water is used rain or thawed, warmed to room temperature. The liquid for irrigation should stand for several days, so that harmful impurities precipitate.

Fertilizer and transplant
  Every two weeks seedlings fertilized. Such citrus feeds as “Ideal” or “Health” are suitable for citrus fruits. You can buy special fertilizers created for lemons and other exotic plants, but they should include:

  • manganese;
  • zinc.

Citrus leaves are regularly rubbed with a damp cloth, cleaning dust. A pot with seedlings should stand on a well-lit window so that the plant receives a lot of UV light. But in order to sprout evenly and not shed the leaves, the lemon should be rotated around its axis by 1.5–2 cm every month. You can not turn the seedlings sharply, otherwise such unexpected changes may result in “baldness” of the young tree.

In early spring, the grown citrus is transferred to another, more spacious pot. In the first year, the lemon must "move" 4 times. An adult tree can live in its pot for several years, the main thing is to update the topsoil from time to time.

How to understand that a lemon needs a new home? If his roots are taken to the drainage layer and trying to crawl out of the pot, the tree became cramped. Move the lemon from one container to another carefully so as not to damage the base. On the root system, some land is left to adapt the plant to new conditions more quickly.

Tree formation
So that the sapling does not turn into a shaggy bush of an incomprehensible shape, you need to take care of it. When the central shoot becomes strong and begins to stretch upwards, acquiring branches and additional leaves, it is cut. A stump of 20 cm in height must remain. Further, second-order branches are formed on the central trunk, which are pinched when they reach 18–19 cm. Repeat the procedure once more until shoots of the fourth “generation” appear. On them buds, flowers and fruits are formed.

If you do not cut off the extra shoots and branches, the lemon crown will become thick, and the tree will spend too much effort on feeding leaves and unnecessary shoots.

When the stem of the seedling is as thick as a pencil, a lemon should be planted. You must ask your friends or order in a specialty store a two-year stalk, cut from a fruiting citrus. You will also need:

  • well sharpened knife;
  • a roll of electrical tape;
  • plastic bag;
  • garden pitch

First, cut a lemon branch, departing from the central trunk, leaving a stump 5–10 cm high. It should be carefully split into two equal parts. Sharpen the bottom of the handle in the form of a blade and insert it into the stump. Smear the open "wounds" with garden pitch, pull tightly with tape to cover the stump.

The tip of the scion is also cut, leaving 2 to 4 buds. Cut the cut with garden pitch, cover the lemon with a package to create a warm moist microclimate. In such conditions, wounds heal faster, and the stalk takes root better. Remove the cellophane after the first shoots. Grafted lemon will begin to bear fruit in 2–3 years.

For the first time leave 2 flowers that need to be pollinated with a cotton swab. Collect pollen from one cup and transfer to another. In the future, on a lemon can ripen as many fruits as the ovary appears.

  1. In late autumn, the temperature in the room where the pot of citrus is standing should be gradually reduced to 15 degrees in order for the plant to adapt to harsh conditions. At the same time, they increase the light day, otherwise the tree will start dropping leaves.
  2. In winter, a lemon tub is recommended to wrap with insulation or thick blankets to protect the roots from hypothermia.
  3. The soil is loosened every 5-6 irrigations to improve the flow of air into the soil and prevent acidification of the soil.
  4. In late spring and summer, it is useful to carry an adult citrus tree outside, but hide it from direct sunlight.

Lemon, like other plants, needs regular care and care. The plant loves heat, moisture and the sun in moderation, sometimes it needs feeding and protection from pests. If you do not forget to water the tree, fertilize it and keep it away from drafts, it will live a long time and regularly rejoice with the fruits.

Video: how to grow citrus at home

Lemon is a very fragrant and healthy fruit. Home-grown lemon leaves can not be compared with the purchased, neither in taste, nor in aromatic properties. Its use is endless: pastries, teas, salads, jams and more. Lemon is also widely used in traditional medicine, because it contains a large amount of vitamins. And the tree itself cleans the air. It is very pleasing to the eye when it is snowing outside the window, and on the window sill among the green foliage there is a yellow lemon.

Grow lemon at home is a lot of work, and it will not always work the first time. I will share my experience of growing this wonderful tree.

  Lemon growing from stalk

Lemon can be grown from the stone, it will be more life-resistant than that grown from the cutting, but it can only give fruit in 15-20 years. If there is a desire to see earlier fruits on this tree, then you need to be vaccinated against the fruit-bearing plant. But I will tell you how to grow a beautiful tree from a cutting, from a fruit tree.

For a start, we will need a cutting from a fruit tree. Its length should be 8-12 cm, and he himself - slightly lignified; it is desirable to cut off the twig from the tree in March. And it is very important that there are 3-4 leaflets on the branch.

You will also need a primer, you can use the universal for citrus, you can cook yourself. The composition of the soil is washed river sand and humus in equal parts. It is still believed, from experienced lemon growers, that a lemon tree grows well in the ground, gathered in the place where nettle grows well.
  We will also need a root stimulator, Kornevin, a container for growing lemon (I use plastic cups, without having forgotten to make a drain hole in the bottom of the cup), a plastic bottle to create a greenhouse.

The stalk needs to be soaked for 24 hours in Kornevin’s solution. Cooking solution - 1 g of the drug in 1 liter of water.
  On the next day, we cut the leaves to half so that the plant does not waste energy on feeding the leaves, but to put all its life forces on to root formation.

Sprinkle the bottom cut with Kornevin.

After that, stick the cutting into the wet ground. After the cutting is planted, it must be watered with settled water at room temperature. Then the stalk must be closed with a transparent plastic bottle, cut off by the upper half. Then our parnichok must be put on the sunniest place, but remember that direct sunlight is dangerous for the cutting. The stalk should be watered regularly, but not flooded and not allowed to dry out to earthy coma.

After about 3-4 weeks, the first roots should begin to appear, you can open a greenhouse and lightly try to pull the stalk out of the ground, if you encounter an obstacle, then we are on the right path, the roots go up. Now you need to adapt our lemon to room conditions. Within two weeks, starting from 5-10 min. and gradually increasing the daily time, open the cap on the bottle, teaching lemon to room conditions. After two weeks, the shelter is removed.

After the stalk will start up new young leaves, it contains, as an adult plant. When the roots are braided in a cup with an earthen clod, it can be transplanted into a permanent pot, using the transshipment method, increasing the cup diameter by two finger thicknesses.

If a young lemon has started up small buds, then they need to be cut off, up to about 3-5 years of plant life, since the early ovary of fruits can damage the tree and deplete it.
  The homemade lemon need to form a crown. Otherwise, it will be bad fruit. To begin, cut the lower shoots, then the top. For a good development of the crown, the tree needs to be rotated around its axis, but a little bit so that the flower makes a complete rotation around the axis within a year, otherwise, with a sharp turn, a lemon can throw off the leaves.

  Conditions of carrying a lemon and the fight against its diseases

Watering

Lemon loves moderate humidity and does not tolerate both drought and strong moisture. But he likes dushik very much when he is sprayed or bathed in the bathroom under the shower, using a spray bottle: spray leaves with water 3-4 times a week. Excess moisture leads to rotting of the roots, and the lack of leads to the attack of ticks.

Top dressing

Lemon is very demanding to feed. Fertilizer need to be once a month, complex, better for citrus. If the leaves began to turn yellow, then you need to make fertilizer with a high content of magnesium.

As a fertilizer, you can use the slurry, sawdust and ash, as well as mineral supplements, which include nitrogen. You can add a couple grams of zinc or copper.

Flowering and fruiting

Lemon blooms from spring to autumn. Blooms most heavily in March. To speed up flowering you need to nip the plant. When new shoots grow, they should be pinched or cut, so that there are 3-5 leaves on the shoot. With this method of growing lemon will look compact, the leaves are larger. Flowers are of two types, hollow flowers and lemon. Whose flowers have a pestle large, then it means that a lemon is made from this flower. Experienced lemon scientists believe that each fruit is fed by 9-10 leaves. Depending on the number of leaves you need to leave the harvest.

On the lemon you need to leave 3-4 of the boundaries of lemon, the remaining buds need to be picked, otherwise the flower of the bounding lemons will throw off, and the new ones will not have enough strength. I collect the collected flowers and buds and dry, then add to tea, the aroma of tea cannot be conveyed, you just have to try it.

Fruits ripen from 6 to 10 months, depending on the grade of lemon. Lemon weight can be from 50 g to 600 g. But the long wait is worth it.

Diseases, pests and ways to combat them

As a result of mistakes in the care, introduction of insects with a new plant from the outside, a weakened plant affects diseases and pests.
  Homemade lemon can be affected by the shield and spider mite, these are the most common diseases.
  Disease prevention is a regular spraying of water.
  If you notice brown plaques and smudges on the back of the leaves, then this is a shield.

Must be treated with acaricides. You can also handle folk remedies. With a damp cotton swab, collect the flaps and treat with a solution of kerosene soap (40 grams of soap and 5 drops of kerosene for 1 liter of water). Or smear the leaves with gruel of onion and garlic (1 teaspoon per glass of water), thus depriving the pests of the opportunity to drink the juice of the plant.

Lemon leaves can also damage spider mites. If white thin threads are noticed on the branches and on the underside of the leaves, then this is the spider mite. The spider mite does not tolerate moisture, the plant needs to be washed under the shower and the leaves are treated with laundry soap, from above you put on a plastic bag and create greenhouse-wet conditions. Leaves can be treated with a daily mixture of grated onions and garlic, one teaspoon per 1 liter of water. Spraying should be carried out three times with an interval of 7-10 days.

Transfer

Transplanting should be done at the end of winter, at the beginning of spring. Before the appearance of the first fruits, the plant is transplanted every year, increasing the volume of the pot by 2 cm. Then the transplantation is carried out once every 4-5 years, while between transplants we do not forget to change the upper layer of the earth.

This is my experience in growing lemon; two varieties of lemon grow in me - Panderoz and Meyer. The first one has very large fruits, a lemon thick-skinned, the last one has small fruit with thin skin.

Have a good experience in growing and enjoy your tea with delicious lemon-grown hands.

Everyone knows how much benefit a lemon brings to the human body. It helps to cope with colds and many other ailments. And also its yellow juicy fruits increase and strengthen the immune system, normalize hormones, improve eyesight and the gastrointestinal tract. The plant produces phytoncide, an essential oil that has a beneficial effect on the nervous system.

A lemon in a pot looks spectacular, but the tree makes a greater impression when the fruits ripen on it. Many people would not refuse to contemplate this sunny fruit not only in their garden, but also on the windowsill.

Features of growing

It is possible to grow a lemon from a stone at home. The plant will be small, up to 1.5 m in height, sometimes taller. Growing a lemon tree from a stone is easy, but in order for it to begin to bear fruit, you need to comply with certain conditions of its maintenance. For planting it is not enough to take the bones and plant them in the ground, but you also need to know some nuances of growing lemon at home.

If a person wants to grow lemon at home, he should know the basic rules.

  1. Bones for planting take only from a ripe lemon, its color should be rich yellow.
  2. Bones do not need to be dried. After removing them from the lemon, rinse with warm water and immediately seal them in the substrate. If the bones are dry, the result will not have to wait.
  3. Choose the largest stones, 10-15 pieces. Thus, it will be possible to select strong and resistant seeds for planting.
  4. And also a big role is played by a choice of a grade for landing. Germinate only those varieties that will grow well in indoor conditions.

Suitable varieties for home cultivation

There are many varieties of this culture. But only 5 species suitable for home cultivation.

  1. Variety Pavlovsky - has large fruits, whose weight reaches 500 g. The taste is sweet, the leaves are fragrant. The plant reaches up to 2 m in height. The pits inside the fruit are usually 4–5, sometimes they are not there at all.
  2. Meier is a hybrid variety that was bred by crossing with a grapefruit. The taste of the fruit is sweet and sour. The tree always gives a good harvest. The weight of one fruit reaches 150 g. Meyer’s variety has been hibernating for some time.
  3. Ponderose is also a hybrid variety. The fruits have a bitter taste and a lot of seeds inside. This lemon blooms all year round. The plant is unpretentious in the care.
  4. Genoa is a medium sized plant. The yield is high, by 4–5 years of life begins to bear fruit. The fruits have a tender flesh, a sour taste and lasting aroma. The grade is undemanding in leaving.
  5. Variety Jubilee - the plant reaches medium size. The harvest is rich, the rind of the fruit is thick. The variety is ideal for growing at home.

Growing indoors

To grow a lemon at home from the stone, you need to know how to do it. It is necessary to prepare the seeds of lemon, the ground, to carry out proper care, including feeding, watering and transplanting plants.

Preparation of planting material

Finding large, ripe fruits is easy. Enough to go to the market or to the store. In order to grow a lemon from a stone to be successful, it is necessary to take only the ripest fruits. Before buying, you should carefully examine the fruit for the presence of rot and dry peel. At home, the fruit is cut in half and selected only the largest seeds. It is advisable to plant several bones at the same time so that you can choose the strongest sprouts.

Before planting a lemon from the stone, planting material is treated with special preparations. Be sure to use growth stimulants: sodium humate. The procedure helps:

  • quickly grow seedlings;
  • strengthen the immune system and prevent the occurrence of diseases;
  • quickly germinate shoots.

Preparing the tank for landing

For starters, lemon stones need to be planted in a small pot. Only after the seedling ascends, it is transplanted into a large and beautiful pot. At this point, a number of procedures are still needed. For the successful germination of lemon from seed, you need to take a small container with holes in the bottom. And you also need to lay a drainage pot on the bottom, 1.5–2 cm thick. For it, take small pieces of red brick, expanded clay or just small pebbles. Lemon pot should not be high, because its roots are small.

Soil preparation

Drainage and soil for planting can be purchased at the store. Ordinary land for seedlings is not suitable, you need a special soil for home citrus. If you can not buy one, you can prepare the soil yourself. For this take:

  • 50% turf land;
  • 50% of humus;
  • peat and coal or ash.

Land in a pot is well spilled with water and then bones are placed there. Seeds are planted to a depth of 1–1.5 cm. If the house has an air temperature of 18 ° C and lower, then it is better to cover the plant with a film and put it in a warm place. Watering the soil with seeds is often not worth it, only if it is dry. Bones begin to germinate in 2–3 weeks.

Plant transplant

After some time, germinated seedlings need to be transplanted. This should be done very carefully so as not to damage the root system. In order for the plant to form a strong stalk, the size of the pot should be about 10 cm. After a year, the culture is transplanted into a larger pot. The size of the container is selected 10 cm larger than the previous one. Capacity is better to take clay. An adult plant is transplanted 1 time in 3-4 years. The soil for transplanting is the same as when planting bones.

Krona needs to trim from time to time to form a beautiful and healthy shrub. Weak or dried branches are removed. So that the foliage grows evenly throughout the bush, the culture is rotated 90 ° once a week.

Household Care Rules

Care at home should be carried out carefully, it depends on how much the plant will grow and when it starts to give fruit. You need to pay attention to the recommendations of experts, so as not to say later: “we take care of the right, but the lemon does not grow”.

Top dressing

Any plant needs additional feeding, and the lemon grown at home especially. If a plant starts losing leaves, it lacks nutrients. This can lead to stunting and fruiting. Once a month, fertilizers are applied in the form of nitrogen, potassium and phosphate. But also ready fertilizer is suitable, which is sold in a specialized store. To prepare the solution independently take:

  • 2 tbsp. l phosphate salts;
  • 1 tbsp. l potassium salt;
  • 1 tbsp. l superphosphate.

All components are diluted in water. So that the nutrient solution is distributed evenly throughout the soil, the plant is watered before applying supplements. To prevent the roots from burning from fertilizers, the solution is used in a volume of 100–150 ml per bush. In addition, you need to control the state of the tree. Regularly inspect its foliage so that it is healthy, and the leaves do not become yellow.

Among potassium fertilizers emit potash ash. Apply 1 tsp. on 1 l of water. In addition to mineral, it is necessary to give organic fertilizers. To do this, prepare infusions of mullein, humus. Feed only adult, matured plant.

Watering

Lemon does not like the ground to be very wet or dry. It can damage the roots of the plant. Soil moisture should be moderate. Watering is carried out only separated water at room temperature.

Air temperature

Lemon is bad for sudden changes in temperature. An important component of culture care is the control of humidity and the overall air temperature in the room. Lemon tree loves a lot of light, so it needs solar procedures every day for 12 hours. Therefore, it is better to place lemon on the south side, and to compensate for the lack of light with special fitolamps.

Humidity should be 60–70%. If the humidity level is lower, a container with water is placed next to the flower or the leaves are sprayed. Too dry air, as well as strong heat and drafts can kill the plant.

Inoculation for fruiting

The most well-known pests that attack a lemon are the shells, aphids, mites and worms.  These insects drink the sap of the plant, which causes the leaves to twist and dry. All pests can be destroyed in one way.

  1. Remove pests manually with a scouring pad or a brush and apply anabazine sulfate soap solution. It is more convenient to clean the insect leaves with a cotton swab.
  2. After a day, the solution must be washed off. A week later, repeat the procedure.
  3. If insects severely damaged the plant, the bushes need to be treated with infusion of onion, garlic, tobacco or celandine. Any of the ingredients insist in water.
  4. And you can also apply ready-made preparations Actellic and Fitoverm. The drugs are used very carefully, as they are very poisonous.

Among the possible diseases emit a sooty fungus and gommoz. The fungus covers the foliage with a bloom of gray, causing the plant to lose its power. Gommoz manifests itself in the form of gum on the bark, and the leaves and stems begin to dry. To cure a plant of diseases, do the following:

  • diseased bark cleaned and treated with blue vitriol;
  • apply the preparation for RanNet putty or garden var;
  • leaves are wiped with a damp cloth;
  • and also top dressings help to support immunity.

Preparations are used according to the instructions attached to them. They can be purchased at any specialty store.

Disease prevention

To prevent the lemon from growing ill, they take preventive measures:

  1. Hot water treatments in the form of a shower. The plant will not suffer, and the pests will be destroyed.
  2. Once a week, wipe the leaves with soapy water. For this it is better to take the laundry soap.

Perfectly helps herbal remedy. The drug is odorless and non-toxic.

These activities will help prevent the occurrence of disease and death of the plant.

Conclusion

Many are interested in whether it is possible to grow a lemon from seeds. With a great desire anything is possible. Growing a lemon is easy, but if the owner of the plant wants to harvest all year round, he will have to work hard. This tree needs proper care. In response to the time spent and time, the lemon tree will give not only tasty and fragrant fruits, but will bring comfort and good mood to the house.

Home garden can not only please the eye with fragrant flowers, but also bear useful fruits. For example, in a pot on the windowsill you can grow a fragrant lemon, or even a tangerine. A citrus tree will be the most useful plant in a home garden. The easiest way is to buy a tree already sprouted in a flower shop, however, it will not deliver as much pleasure as it is grown from the stone with your own hands.

Actually, it is very simple to make it, and even a beginner florist will be able to cope with this task. It is best to use the bones of homemade lemons, for example, the varieties of Miyer (it is small and frost-resistant), these plants do not water all sorts of fertilizers to accelerate growth, and the fruits are not treated with chemicals to extend the shelf life, and the probability of growing a healthy tree from home-grown lemon seeds is much higher. However, when there is no opportunity to get the bones of a home plant, lemons bought at the store are used.

Order of action

The first thing to do is to carefully separate the bones from the fruit itself without damaging their shells, then rinse them under water, removing the remnants of the fruit. When the seeds are ready, they must be wrapped in wet gauze. It is recommended to use gauze as a material, since it lets in enough air and does not allow the bones to rot. Every two days it is desirable to change the gauze. It is best to wet several seeds at once, then the chance of germination will increase. In this form, the stones lie from three weeks to one and a half months, depending on the rate of germination. As a result, a seedling should appear from the seed, and then it should be planted in a pot.

As capacity for a seed it is not necessary to choose a clay pot. On the first pair it can be a half liter plastic cup or a mayonnaise bucket. At the bottom and sides of the future pot you need to make several holes to drain excess moisture. Lemon tree is a rather capricious plant, and it will not grow in ordinary land, therefore it is better to take care of this circumstance in advance and purchase special soil for citrus fruits, it can be found in any flower shop. At the bottom of the pot lay drainage. The drainage may be expanded clay or crushed eggshell.

If you have problems with the purchase of specialized soil, you can try to grow lemon seeds from seeds in a mixture consisting of:

  • four glasses of earth;
  • two tablespoons of ash;
  • six spoons of humus or manure;
  • glasses of river sand.

Care

Lemon is a light-loving plant, so it is desirable to place it in the sunny part of the room. Experienced growers do not recommend moving the plant pot from place to place, but it needs to be slightly rotated once a week, so that all the leaves would be lit, and the crown would not be one-sided. Watering the tree should be every two days, while sprinkling the leaves with a sprinkler.

On the shelves in flower shops you can find a lot of citrus fertilizers, and in the first year of life it is advisable to feed the plant to strengthen the root system. As soon as lemon gets stronger and collects 5-6 leaves, it is time to pinch the tops. To do the pinching is best with tweezers, but in his absence you can do it gently with a fingernail. Due to the timely removal of the tops of the tree will give side branches, which contributes to the formation of a beautiful fluffy crown.

It must be remembered that the side shoots should also pinch when they form 3-4 leaves.

Many believe that a tree grown from a stone cannot grow strong and healthy and will not bear fruit. In fact, this is a deep misconception. .

Another nice bonus that citrus lovers get is the freshness and pleasant aroma in the apartment, because the leaves of the plant can increase the humidity in the room, and exude a light, unique fragrance.
