Attention!  Slingshot hunting on the territory of the Russian Federation is prohibited, this information is provided for informational purposes only. Follow the rules of hunting and the laws of your country.

Many experienced hunters are quite controversial about this type of weapon, like hunting slingshot. And there are reasons for this, since, without understanding this type of weapon, it is difficult to imagine how it can be better than a rifle and a carbine. However, a slingshot hunt has a number of advantages; it only needs to study the “subject” in more detail. For example, by shooting a slingshot you can successfully hunt squirrels, hares, muskrats and otters. There have been cases when even a small boar was shot with a slingshot. Therefore, very often the choice of hunters falls on this type of weapon.

What is a hunting slingshot?

It is necessary to begin to figure out what parts the slingshot consists of.

At first glance it may seem that its device is elementary:

  1. Pen or base. A harness is attached to the handle, which helps to keep the slingshot in hand when fired;
  2. Harness - during stretching saves energy for a shot;
  3. Kozhetok - keeps in the capture of the projectile during the shot.

The first material that was used to create improvised slingshots was wood (cherry, oak, apple, and others). To do this, choose the most dense and tight branch in the tree, then with the help of twine tied slingshot supports. This design was left for three months in order for it to acquire the desired shape and secure it. Only after the acquisition of the form, the branch sawed off from the tree, the bark was cleaned. The form was burned on an open fire and polished with a cloth.

The main element is an elastic band, it is necessary that it quickly return to its original position after the shot. On the base they put on a rubber band up to 30 cm in length, and at the same time it was tensioned not in one, but in several layers. Harness is fastened with small strips to the base, they are called "straps". The tips of the gum are attached to the yoke. A pedestal is a small piece of leather with two holes for the tow. Leather suitable dressed, for example, from the old belt.

Advantages and disadvantages

Each hunter will ask the question, what are the advantages of such a weapon?

The advantages are quite enough to choose this type of weapon for hunting:

  1. This is a very inexpensive weapon.
  2. High power shots with minimal noise.
  3. The damage radius is up to 10 meters, and there are models with a hit radius up to 70 meters.
  4. A rifle or a bow is difficult to carry unnoticed by humans, and few people will notice a slingshot for hunting at its small size.
  5. If the hunter is well prepared, then a shot from a slingshot can be carried out in an instant, and due to the absence of noise a second attempt can be realized in a few seconds.
  6. Hunting slingshot can be used in any conditions, even while walking or fishing, because you can hit any target within reach.

But there are several drawbacks to this type of weapon:

  1. A small range of aiming and a small slaughter range compared with a gun.
  2. Because of the small power of the shot, there is no way to hunt large animals.
  3. The harness wears out very quickly.
  4. For a successful hunt, a hunter must have extensive experience and good aiming skills.

Principle of operation

So, on what basis does this compact and quite powerful type of weapon work on a hunt? Classic slingshot can easily fit in the fist of the hunter.

What the slingshot consists of has already been sorted out, but how it works needs to be studied in more detail. In the harness or gum placed projectile. After the projectile is inserted, the rubber on each side must be stretched, after that aim and release the leather insert with the projectile with one movement.

The shot itself takes place according to the following principle: with a sharp reduction in the elastic, the kinetic energy from it is transferred to the projectile. This energy is enough for the projectile to reach a speed of up to 80 m / s, and the range can develop up to 200 m. These figures will depend on what material the slingshot is made of, what is its design and type of ammunition.

Types of ammunition are quite diverse. It can be:

  • Plastic balls of various sizes - used for training and practicing shooting skills. Multiple use.
  • Fraction, canister of metal of various sizes. Used directly on the hunt.
  • Small and medium stones.

Shooting technique

How to use a slingshot for hunting and to make the most successful shots that hit the target exactly? Slingshot hunting can be a pleasure if you know shooting techniques.

The main thing in a slingshot hunt is aiming and stance of the hunter. That is, you need to understand the essence of how to shoot a slingshot. First, consider the aiming technique. Basically, there are two techniques: instinctive and sighting.

Instinctive shooting

The essence of this method is that the hunter aims "at the eye." In this case, the two eyes are focused on the target, the slingshot and the pedestal, the hunter sees only with peripheral vision. In this way, the goal is achieved by intuition rather than sight. If the hunter feels the direction of the weapon and the gum is correct, then the peeling itself goes down. The advantage of this type of aiming is that it automatically calculates the range of the projectile. And while hunting, the calculation of the flight range is a very necessary quality.

Also, the advantage will be that it does not matter which eye sees better. The minus of this type of aiming is that changing the slingshot or the elastic on it will have to re-master the aiming technique, because the trajectory of the projectile changes from the quality characteristics of this type of weapon. In order for the shots to be accurate with intuitive aiming, it is necessary to be able to mentally represent the trajectory of movement of the munition. This requires experience in shooting, which can be gained by shooting at banks or targets. In the process of learning, you need to constantly imagine what line the projectile will fly, try not to blink during the shots, to see the point where the projectile falls after the shot.

Aiming with eye

When shooting with an eye, the results are more effective. The sight can be any reference point on a slingshot, which aligns along one line of the eye, the very device for shooting and the target. Landmark can be made independently. The meaning of aiming will be that the aiming eye, the slingshot's sight will be aligned strictly in a straight line. For this type of aiming it is better to use one eye, whose eyesight is sharper. The second eye can be closed for convenience.

Most often when using the eye, the pedestal in a tense position will be located in the area of \u200b\u200bthe face from the side of the leading eye. But we must not forget about convergence, which can significantly spoil the quality of shooting. Therefore, the slingshot's sight must be set at some distance so that the lines intersect at the location of the target. The sight is convenient to use when several models are used for hunting, with different tension forces and shot quality.

Depending on the hunter’s stand and depending on whether he is moving or standing still, several types of aiming and shooting can be distinguished:

  1. Aiming technique while driving - to keep the sight still while moving is a very difficult task, almost impossible. But this type of technology does not require a complete immobilization of the hunter. Sight during movement should move along a line similar to the figure eight, laid on its side, or along the line of the sign of infinity. The point where the circles will intersect should be the point of the goal. In fact, the purpose of aiming will be that the pedestal will be released when the line of sight coincides with the location of the target. It is important to act quickly here, because what matters most is how quickly the yoke is released. With the accumulation of experience, the shots will be accurate and accurate. The line of sight can move along other paths. Some use horizontal or vertical movement of the sight.
  2. Fixed aiming technique.  With this technique, you need to aim at the target, fix it and make a shot. With accumulated experience, this technique gives a very high result. To achieve high results in this technique, the most important thing is to learn how to hold your arms and arms in a stationary position for as long as possible, and when firing to do the minimum delay, up to about 6 seconds. Basically, this tactic is used when shooting a sports slingshot.

Safety

When shooting a slingshot, it is important to observe safety precautions so that instead of the beast you are not injured:

  • when hunting with a slingshot you should always wear safety glasses;
  • you should not aim at animals if you are not going to shoot them;
  • always need to see who or what is behind the animal that you are aiming at;
  • do not shoot into the air through hills and buildings if the target is not viewed well;
  • beware of rebound.

The same rules apply when shooting a sports slingshot.

Hunting tactics

You can hunt small animals or birds such as hares, ducks, squirrels.

The tactics of hunting with a slingshot is somewhat different from hunting with other types of weapons and has some special features. In this case, the tactic of hunting is to get as close as possible to the beast, or to lure him out of the hole. In this case, the ammunition is released silently and at the first unsuccessful attempt there is a great chance to make a second, more successful shot, since the animal may not notice and not hear the first shot.

Browse popular models

Nowadays, there is a huge selection of slingshots for every taste on the market, but among them there are the most popular models of factory production, and not homemade slingshots:

  1. Slingshot for hunting production company   Dankung  - This is a powerful slingshot for hunting. Simple in design, perfectly fulfills its function. Made from aircraft-grade aluminum, its weight is about 200 g. Its main advantage is in the accuracy of shooting, which is provided by a narrow rag. Ideal for hunting.
  2. Battle Slingshot Company   Gloveshot  made of anodized aluminum, for convenience in carrying it can be disassembled. Rohatin is wide, because of which shooting accuracy is reduced, however, with constant training, accuracy increases significantly.
  3. Pocket Predator Hathcock Target Sniper  - This combat slingshot fits perfectly in the hand, and when shooting does not cause discomfort. The base is made of steel, which is surrounded by a layer of rubber on top. Can be attributed to sports slingshot.
  4. Survival Slingshot Archer Complete  - This is a tactical slingshot designed for hunting. Distinguished by its bundle, which includes a flashlight that helps with night hunting. And as an ammunition, you can use arrows.
  5. Model FS-1 company Truemark  on the market for over half a century. Differs in ease, there is a holder for charges. The palm rest can be removed.

Do it yourself

Slingshot for hunting can be made with your own hands, it is not very difficult.

Materials that are needed to make a slingshot:

  • wood, plastic, metal for basic construction;
  • rubber for slingshot;
  • a piece of tanned leather.

The tools you need to do a slingshot with your own hands :

  • jigsaw (if the slingshot is made of wood).
  • sandpaper;
  • scissors;
  • drill.

Stages of work

How to make a slingshot for hunting, without spending a lot of money and time, is described below. This is the most common and elementary model for hunting.

A walnut, oak, ash or maple tree is best for a hunting slingshot. It is necessary to find a forked branch of the required shape or to cut a slingshot of the desired shape and size from solid wood. If the choice fell on a branch, then you need to clear the rock from the bark.

Using sandpaper, the workpiece is polished. Further the place for fastening of an elastic band is prepared. On the handle are made two slots, the size of the gum. The distance from the end of the horns should be about 2 cm. The elastic is wrapped around each horn and tied with a knot. The ends of the gum are superimposed on the horns so that they are a continuation of each of the horns, and in place of the slots in the handle must be tied with a thin elastic band. It is better to sand all the holes and cuts perfectly so that the gum does not wear out too quickly.

The “saddle” of the slingshot is best made of leather measuring 3x5 cm. Small holes are made around the edges, through which the elastic is passed and the knot is tied. The rubber is the main part in this device. Rubber can be replaced by applying a harness for a slingshot. Slingshot for hunting ready!

You can also make a slingshot with your own hands from other materials - for example, to make a blank from metal or plastic. You can make a powerful slingshot with your own hands, if you pay special attention to the quality of the gum, without losing money on it. It is better to buy a rubber for a slingshot from a brand manufacturer that has all the necessary physical characteristics. Homemade slingshot can be a worthy alternative to the factory model. Plus, do-it-yourself slingshot can be perfectly made to fit the size of a hunter's hand.

Video

From our video you will learn how to make a slingshot with your own hands at home.

Desire was born to make  attribute of any bully of the USSR, namely the slingshot.

First thought, despite the fact that I love to do everything by their by handsIt was easy to go buy a slingshot. But after weighing all the pros and cons of this venture, I decided that it would be more expedient to make it myself.
  So go sleepless nights and endless blog searches about how and from what to make under the tree. On them, I actually found out that the standard slingshot consists of three parts: a pedestal, two rods, and a spear. In this article I will tell you how to make  pedestals and attach to it thrust. Let's start the same)

If someone did not know, then I will tell, the pedestal is that part of the slingshot, into which the projectile is placed before the shot. Kozhetok can be of different shapes and sizes. To make it, I bought a piece of leather 80 * 35 mm in the shoemaker’s workshop. The requirements for a pedestal are very simple: it must be large enough to accommodate decent-sized shells. Must be durable to withstand the tension of the gum on the edges.
  So, first we take a piece of leather and outline the contours of the pedestal on it.

Next, cut the workpiece. For this, a stationery knife or large shoemaker's scissors are best suited. Holes for the nails can be made with a nail or knocked out with a pointed tube. The holes should be located not less than 5 mm from the edge of the pedestal, otherwise the skin will not stand.

  It seems to have dealt with the pendulum, now we turn to the burdens.

Traction - is 2 gum due to which the projectile flies out of the slingshot. For the manufacture of several types of gum, you can now talk about each of them.

Probably the most famous and common - tubular harness.

  The advantage of such a harness is that it is easy to fasten to the cattle, and a minus - with sufficiently good stretching, returns very smoothly to its original position. I dropped it and decided to look further. He is already out of production and it is quite difficult to get it.

The second type of harness is flat.

  Honestly - this is the worst gum I've ever seen. She terribly stretches and very smoothly returns to its original position, besides, it is unrealistic to fix it on the yoke.

You can use elastic bands for fitness, they stretch well and return well to the opposite position.

The next candidate is Bint Martens. Excellent stretches, quickly takes the starting position. It was on him that I chose. To make a bandage, we cut a piece of about 30 cm in length and cut it lengthwise into two even parts.

In principle, the traction is ready, but for ease of attachment, I recommend to narrow them a little along the edges.
  Now we collect everything together)

Attach thrust needed so that the tail of the knot was outside the pedestal and did not interfere with firing.

  The second part of the article will be released when a sunny day comes out and you can go to the landing and break a good spear.

  Well that's all. Good luck to you homemade.

A slingshot for hunting may look exactly like a device that has been familiar to everyone since childhood, and may have a modern ergonomic design and additional options, such as a comfortable palm rest and an adjustable handle.

A hunting slingshot is different from any other by several features:

  • convenience and simplicity of design;
  • noiseless shot;
  • it should give the opportunity to use special manufactured balls and any other objects suitable for shooting, such as pebbles;
  • shot speed should be high.

This slingshot can be purchased at the store, and you can make yourself.

What is a homemade slingshot for hunting?

Homemade slingshots for hunting are most often made of wood, plastic and metal, they are distinguished by a large variety of shapes, especially wooden ones.

There are woodcarving craftsmen who can make a real masterpiece.

But enough for the manufacture of high-quality slingshot and the usual branched branch, in the simplest form, the bark is not even removed from it.

Video in which you can see the process of making slingshots from wood. Enjoy watching.

How to make a slingshot for hunting

Regardless of the material and method of manufacture, the approximate width between the "horns" should be from 4 to 7 cm, the length of the handle and horns are selected individually, for successful shooting they are not too important, more affect the convenience for the shooter. So try to imagine what is more convenient for you, and choose the length and width of the slingshot by these parameters. But remember that too thin a slingshot for hunting cannot be, it must withstand the frequent firing of heavy shells. The horns should be placed at the same angle to the handle and be as uniform as possible.

Wooden slingshot. It is best to use walnut, oak, maple or ash. You will need either a naturally split branch, or a piece of board, if you want to cut the slingshot yourself. Using a jigsaw, we cut out a slingshot of the desired shape, it is better not to make it flat - a flat slingshot is not too comfortable in the hand. If you managed to pick a suitable branch - clean it from the bark. Grind the workpiece with sandpaper manually or using a sander.

Cooking place attachment gum. Attach it in several ways.

  We make cuts corresponding to the width of the elastic band, at a distance of 1.5 - 2 cm from the ends of the horns. Wrap gum around the horns, tie a knot.

We make cuts, as described above, put the ends of the elastic on the horns so that they are not perpendicular to them, as in the 1st paragraph, but served as a continuation of the horns, and bandaged in place of the cut with a thin elastic band.

We drill at the same distance from the ends of the slingshot, the holes corresponding to the diameter of the elastic band, pass it into them and tie the knots so that the elastic band cannot jump out.

Slingshot from epoxy glue. Knead Poksipol or any other epoxy two-component glue, make a slingshot of the desired shape from it. When sculpting the handle, take the epoxy mass in the palm and squeeze a little, but not much, as if not pressed. If you squeeze too hard, it will be awkward to hold the slingshot in your hand when firing.

After hardening, we act on the papier-mâché principle - glue the slingshot with 5-6 layers of paper using PVA glue. You need to tear the paper with your hands, it is better to alternate monochromatic paper and newspaper in layers - this way you will see if the entire surface is glued with a new layer. After the last layer dries, we drill holes for the rubber at a distance of 1.5 - 2 cm from the top edge of each horn. It is possible on the one hand to slightly expand the hole so that the bundle does not stick out outside, but “sit” in the recess.

We sand the product with sandpaper, and after priming PVAmixed with chalk, or water dispersion. Again, grind fine-grained sandpaper and paint.

Such a slingshot looks very aesthetically pleasing, in its qualities is in no way inferior to the traditional wooden one.

Holes and cuts for gum in any version of the manufacture of a slingshot should be sanded as best as possible, otherwise the gum will quickly wipe.

The slingshot saddle (the part in which the projectile is placed) is best made from a piece of dense leather 3 cm wide and 5 cm long. Along the edges we make small holes, we gum through them, we tie a knot.

The choice of gum, perhaps most important for the slingshot stopping power. The best tensile index is 80% of the length in a “calm” state. The most rapidly reducing, and therefore the most powerful, will be flat latex. The most popular producer of the band Thera band, but you can buy other types of rubber, if you can not find it. You can buy this latex in sports stores, it is used by athletes for training. From it you will need to cut a strip with a width of 1.5 to 2 cm.

You can also use a round rubber band - for example, a latex catheter purchased from a pharmacy. You can buy a special gum for slingshots, but as a rule, it is not too easy to find.

  Gum Length determined individually- it depends on the length of the arrow and on how well the rubber stretches. To find the optimal length, you need to try to “target” a slingshot with a different length of gum.

What to shoot

Traditional pebbles are not good for hunting, when every shot is important. Different dimensions and weight do not contribute to the development of automatism when shooting.

The 8.5mm canister is best for hunting, it can be fired quite far, it is cheap, always on sale.

Special metal balls for slingshot, fishing weights and foals (pieces of fine reinforcement) can also be used for hunting.

Who can be hunted with a slingshot

Beat from a slingshot of small animals and a bird. Best of all, a slingshot shows itself when hunting for game, which rises almost from under its feet — a snipe, a woodcock, a partridge, a grouse, a pheasant. Fans of experiments can hunt thrushes, larks, buntings, bullfinches, waxwings - in traditional Russian cuisine, these birds were often used as a separate dish, and as an additive in pies and sauces.

When firing at long distances, the effectiveness of the device is sharply reduced, so, for example, a duck, you can shoot, but it will be much more difficult.

   Before you go with a slingshot for prey, you should take time to train, choose the best position for shooting, adjust the length of the slingshot gum. If you have not had such experience before, most likely at first you will not hit the target too neatly. But over time, having trained, you can successfully use a slingshot on the hunt.

Below you can see photos on the subject of slingshots for hunting. Enjoy watching.

We all made slingshots in childhood. First you find a suitable branch in a tree, break it off and catch the gum “from the pants”. Such horns were not powerful and very primitive, but this was enough for us. We will make a compact and rather strong steel slingshot, it can be a good entertainment for you.

As I said, the basis for the slingshot will not be wood, but steel. I took a thick red-hot wire several millimeters thick (3-4). It is very tough and it is not so easy to give it the desired shape. In the pictures you see how to make a slingshot from a straight bar, step by step. In this case, only two tools were used - it is a hammer and pliers. At a place of bending the cylindrical wire may break, and to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to heat the bendable area to be red with something, for example, with a gas burner or on a “kitchen gas”.

The photo shows what happened to me. In order to be more comfortable to hold a slingshot, wrap an insulating tape at the bottom or, make a wooden handle.

If the slingshot is powerful, then the arm will get tired when firing, and the considerable pressure from the thin handle unpleasantly presses. This is partially solved by focusing, thanks to him and aim better, the hand almost does not shake, and there will not be any strong “dents” to remain after the hunt.

All potential energy is stored in the gum, which we stretch before shooting. In today's world there are countless materials that are great for slingshots. You can buy a good and high-quality tourniquet in a pharmacy, yes, yes, do not be surprised, they sell various medical supplies that we can use as a throwing tow. Here is a list of those that are best suited for our purposes:

 Bandage Martens (medical rubber bandage)
П Pezzer's catheter
 Latex surgical rubber

Also, some people use basketball rubber, rubber from a gas mask or a diving suit - all this also shows excellent results when shooting. My goal was not a super powerful slingshot, so I used rubber, which is used by fishermen for fishing on the donkey. There is another option to buy already sold slingshots. Remember that everything is not forever and sooner or later the harness will tear and it will need to be changed, so do not overload it.

It is very important to fasten the gum well on the slingshot so that it is convenient to shoot and it does not break. We will do this with a thin tube. (If you have a catheter, then just pull it on the horns, after processing). Horns come out thick for my tubules

(for me it is isolation from a thick wire) and in order to stretch it with me, the ends of the file were processed, do not overdo it, you need to make such a diameter at which the insulation fits with force, and firmly holds without additional fasteners. It is also possible to make an abrasive stone, make smooth edges so that the rubber is not torn. Stringing two pieces of a few centimeters long on the ends. For greater reliability, you can pre-apply a little glue.

And we put the bundle (in my case, a combination of several thin elastics) into the other, remaining end and fix it well with thin wire or nylon thread, so that the sharp ends do not stick out.

Pocket slingshot is not a bow and we need to make a special saddle, which is also called a trough, in which the projectile will be put. You can make it from any suitable fabric, but the best choice is undoubtedly thin skin. I removed this from the cover of the old Soviet radio. Cutting the skin with scissors is difficult, but real. In the picture below you can see what approximately the shape of our heel (another name). We make small holes, but then they can expand and completely tear.

It is also convenient to shoot from nylon jacks, which when burnt do not tear apart (backpack straps are usually made from such material). To attach the throwing rubber, push one end through the hole and tie the case well with a nylon thread.

As with every weapon of this type, a lot of training is necessary for a clear hit to the target. It’s not so easy to hit the target clearly for long distances, and you have to practice a lot, then muscle memory will gradually develop. For beginners, you can make a simple sight from a thin wire, this is how it looks. And do not forget to wear glasses (and better a mask)), and then suddenly the projectile ricochets.

What to shoot? These are usually small pebbles, which are always lying under their feet, nuts, mountain ash, it will not fly so far and hit the target hard, and the best shells are metal balls (bearings). These balls have an ideal shape for firing from such type of weapon, it has a lot of weight, as a result of which the projectile flies very far, with sufficient energy applied to it. Almost anything is used as a projectile, and this is a huge plus of the slingshot.

Slingshots are multifunctional throwing devices of small size. For many years they have been used for various purposes, ranging from hunting and ending with games on the development of accuracy. Slingshots can be different in size and design, as they can be made from a number of different materials. Nevertheless, all slingshots have common features: a strong frame, rubber heavy and throwing projectiles, which are sent into flight when the gum is pulled and released.

Steps

Classic wooden slingshot

    Find a sturdy, U-shaped mold.  Pay attention to the branches on the ground, which can be broken off or cut to the desired shape. For a slingshot, the branches of almost any tree are suitable, provided that they are strong enough to retain their shape when you stretch your slingshot. However, for convenience and simplicity, it is best to use a rat about 15–20 cm long with a branch thickness of 2.5–5 cm.

    • Look for branches on the ground in a wooded area. There you will have much more choice among suitable materials.
    • If you prudently remove peeled damp or mossy bark from the ramp, you will get a slingshot that will be easier to hold.
  1. Dry the spear. Suspend the branch found above the heat source, for example, over a fire or a torch, and periodically turn it over. Dry the branch for several hours. As it warms up, excess moisture will gradually come out of the branch. This is necessary so that the slingshot is less bent at the moment of the shot.

    Make grooves at both ends of the fork.  Take a penknife or a sharp stone and scrape out the shallow circular grooves at the ends of the rag. Each groove should be located at a distance of about 2.5 cm from the ends of the fork. The grooves will provide a secure attachment of gum (hard), with which you will shoot.

    • If the grooves are made too high, the slingshot may break due to the pressure of the stretched gum. If you make them too low, then the shells with which you will shoot can constantly cling to the base of the fork.
  2. Cut the gum for slingshots.  Any thick springy material that you have on hand can be an effective throwing mechanism. Thick rubber bands or latex stripes and even medical harnesses - all this is great for making a rather powerful slingshot. Having picked up a suitable material, fold it in half and cut it to get two identical weights. Each is heavy in length should correspond approximately to the length of the fork of the slingshot.

    • The specific length of the traces will depend on your preferred style of shooting, as well as the materials you work with. Shorter fights will allow for more powerful shots, but it will be harder to pull the slingshot.
    • Longer heavy ones will allow you to adjust the slingshot at your discretion or even completely redo it if you make a mistake somewhere.
  3. Attach heavy to the ratchet.  Take one of the two traces and wrap its end around one of the slingshots you prepared earlier. Securely tie a lug in this place. Do the same with the second heavy. Cut the shorter ends of the shortcuts so that they do not interfere. Your homemade slingshot is almost ready!

    • To make a slingshot shoot accurately, make sure that it is as heavy as the same length as possible. Otherwise, your weapon will be skewed.
    • Check knots for durability. If one of them unleashes at the moment of the shot, the slingshot can quite painfully lash your hands.
  4. Make the pedestals. Take a shred of durable material and cut a strip of about 10 cm long and 5 cm wide into it. At a distance of about 1.5 cm from the ends of the strip, make holes through which you can pass the free ends of the trays. The resulting pedestal will serve as a nest for your shells, in which they will sit securely directly before the shot.

    • It is best to use durable material with some resistance, for example, leather or thick burlap.
    • To make holes in the yoke, use the tip of a penknife or other similar object. You can also just make a slit on the material, but they can break after just a few shots from a slingshot.
  5. Tie pendles to the litter box.  Thread the free end of one heavy in one of the holes on the yoke. Tie a heavy knot on the outer edge of the skin. Repeat the same with the second heavy. Now the slingshot trigger is a single unit and consists of a peel in the center and two pulls attached to its ends.

    Make a longitudinal cut on the cardboard tube of toilet paper.  Take the scissors and cut the tube of toilet paper on one side so that it can be turned into a sheet. You need to make only one cut, as the tube must remain a whole sheet piece.

  6. Roll the cardboard into a narrower tube and secure with tape.  Place the edges of the cut cardboard tube on top of each other, and then twist it the way people usually roll up newspapers. As a result, the tube should be twice as small in diameter than before. Wrap it with a long piece of tape to fix, leaving only 2.5 cm of cardboard hanging from one end.

    • This part will serve as an internal slingshot piston with which you will launch projectiles.
    • The inner diameter of the tube must be small enough to strike the shells with which you are going to shoot, not allowing them to slip through. It will be useful to compare the dimensions of these parts before gluing the tube with tape. If it turns out to be wide, twist it a little tighter to get the right size.
  7. Make two holes on opposite sides of one of the ends of the tube.  These two holes must be large enough so that a pencil can be inserted into them. Place them on one end of the tube directly opposite each other, and not on opposite ends. In order not to twist the holes relative to each other, it will be more convenient to look at the tube from above.

    • To gently puncture holes, use a hand hole punch for one hole. But if you do not have such a punch, the holes can be made with scissors or the tip of a pencil.
  8. Insert the pencil into the holes of the cardboard tube.  Insert a pencil into one hole of the piston and remove from the other. Place the pencil exactly in the middle. To do this, straighten it until the ends of the pencil of the same length stick out on either side of the tube.

    • It is best to use a short thick pencil, since the probability of accidentally breaking it will be lower.
    • Be careful not to damage the holes in the cardboard when inserting the pencil. They should be sufficient only for the pencil to enter them. If one of the holes breaks, turn the tube and make two new holes in it.
  9. Take the second whole tube of toilet paper and make a series of cuts on it.  With a pencil, draw two vertical lines 1.5 cm in depth from one of the ends of the tube. Leave a finger-width between them. Turn the receiver and make two more marks on the opposite side of the same end. Then take the scissors and carefully cut the cardboard according to the marks.

    • This tube will be the outer cylinder of the piston slingshot containing the thinner piston you made first.
  10. Hook up the bank gum for money on both sides of the tube.  Hook the rubber bands behind the pair of cuts, dropping them to the very base of the cuts. To slingshot of this type could normally shoot, you will need to use a rubber band for both sides.

    • You will achieve the best results if you take two identical elastic bands. If you do not have much choice, try to verify that the used rubber bands are the same in size and thickness.
  11. In order to have a good and safe fun, you can shoot marshmallows, foam balls and other soft shells from a cardboard piston slingshot.
  • Sturdy slingshot can be used for hunting, as a means of survival or as an interesting device for practice in accuracy.
  • To make the slingshot handle more comfortable, wrap it with foam tape or string.
  • Experiment with making slingshots of different sizes, which can shoot different types of shells.
  • Strong and at the same time flexible wood species, such as oak, ash and maple, are the best material for slingshots. They have enough flexibility that does not allow the slingshot to break, but at the same time it is not too large to have a negative effect on the strength and range of the shot.
