The curtains on the grommets, invented relatively recently by practical residents of Europe, look unusual and fashionable.

Cringles can be set to the tone of the material or the eaves to make them invisible against the general background of the curtains or, on the contrary, to focus on them.

The advantages of fastening curtains to the eaves in comparison with any others are obvious:

  • easy, effortless gliding along the eaves;
  • the absence of additional fasteners that may be lost;
  • slower wear of the fabric compared with other types of hanging curtains;
  • the uniformity of the folds and the ability to get interesting effects in the design;
  • the possibility of using curtains with eyelets in any style of the interior.

The presence on the market of rings with different coatings that imitate metal, wood or leather, a variety of forms of decorative overlays for eyelets make them an additional element for decorating a curtain. If you wish, you can choose the rings so that they are invisible against the general background of the curtains or, on the contrary, focus on them by setting the grommets of a color that is in contrast with the fabric or with lining of unusual shape.

How to calculate the amount of fabric for sewing curtains?

Due to the fact that the curtains on the grommets naturally gather into folds, creating a volume smooth wave, you should not save on their width. To get a beautiful drapery, you need to take fabric for sewing so that the total width of the blank is 2.5-3 times the width of the cornice. Not recommended and too large width of the workpiece, which will make the curtain heavy and bulky.

The length of the curtain with eyelets is selected depending on the room in which it is planned to hang it: in the living room or bedroom. The length is usually chosen a few centimeters above the floor, and in the kitchen or nursery you can limit it to a window sill.

The calculations take into account the allowances for processing edges of the fabric:

  • 3-4 cm for side sections;
  • for the bottom - 10 cm;
  • for the top - up to 20 cm, taking into account the diameter of the rings.

The allowance for processing the upper cut is calculated taking into account the diameter of the eyelets, multiplying it by 2 and adding to this figure another 5-10 cm for the formation of a “comb” and bend. Eyelets with a diameter of 1-5 cm are considered the most suitable for curtains.

If the fabric for the curtain has a large symmetrical pattern, parts of which will have to be adjusted to each other on adjacent panels, then you need to take into account the stock for fitting.

Sewing curtains on the grommet

Before sewing the curtains on the grommets, you will need to prepare the tools, fabric and accessories. For tailoring curtains will be required:

Tools for sewing: sewing machine, scissors, cloth, needles, thread, pins, grommet or dublerin, eyelets, iron.

  • sewing machine;
  • scissors;
  • fabric for curtains;
  • needles, threads, pins;
  • special cringing tape or glue fabric (dublerin or others);
  • grommets;
  • electric iron.

To cut the curtain material, measure the desired height of the future product, which is equal to the distance from the eaves to the floor, add 3 cm above for the formation of a “comb”, 2 ring diameters and 2.5-3 cm for the hem. Bottom add the allowance for processing (10 cm) and take away 1.5-2 cm so that the curtain does not drag across the floor. Exactly and gently cut the fabric will help the following: you need to pull out 1-2 threads from it and make an incision along the resulting track.

To measure a cringing tape or glue material so that to the side sections of the fabric the curtains remain 2-4 cm.

  1. Processing the bottom begins with zatuyuzhivaniya allowance for hem (10 cm) on the wrong side. Then cut the fabric to tuck inward, to the squeezed crease, and secure the edge with pins or bold. There should be a flat strip folded in 3 layers of fabric 5 cm wide.
  2. At the upper edge of the curtains, press 2 cm on the wrong side, measure from the bend a distance equal to the diameter of the grommet plus the desired height of the “comb” and 2 cm, which will be lower than the ring (to the seam). Bend and iron to measure so that the previously ironed part is between the layers of fabric.
  3. Expand the pressurized hem, put the tape or glue fabric on the wrong side of the cloth close to the fold. From the side slices, the edges of the tape should be 2-4 cm apart. The folded, pressed band of the allowance should be put back in place, covering the tape from above. Iron carefully to achieve even sizing of the curtain top. Basting or stabbing a folded edge.
  4. To process the side sections, bending to the wrong side and pressing the strip 2-4 cm wide along the entire length of the curtain. Bend the cut again inward, to the squeezed fold, and fasten the fabric with pins or bold.
  5. Run the machine line on all bent sections, keeping a distance of 1-2 mm from the edge of the hem.
  6. In order to properly install the grommets, it is necessary to set aside 4-5 cm from the side edges of the cloth to the outer circumference of the grommet lining, the height of the “comb” from the top edge to the inner circumference of the grommet. Attach a ring to the fabric by the standards and circle its inner diameter. Cut the hole so that it is 1-2 mm wider than the intended circle. The cringle ring consists of 2 parts: the bottom, which is on the wrong side of the curtains, and the top, front. At the bottom there is a protrusion around the inner hole of the ring, at the top there are small spikes. Lay the fabric face up, place the lower part of the grommet under the fabric, threading the protrusion into the cut hole. Set the front cover on top and press until it clicks. If the ring of the eyelet does not fasten, then it is necessary to slightly widen the hole, cutting 1-2 mm more fabric around the perimeter.
  7. After installing the extreme grommets calculate the location of the rest. Using a tape measure, measure the distance A between the centers of the side rings. The grommets are usually installed at a distance of 15-20 cm from each other. Choose the distance B between the rings within this range and make a calculation using the formula n = A: B, where n is the number of intervals. If the number turned out to be fractional, round it to integer and divide A by the obtained value n. The result will indicate the distance between the centers of the holes. When calculating it is necessary to take into account that the number of rings must be necessarily even in order for the folds to fit correctly. For this, the number n must be odd.

Mark the calculated holes and cut, install eyelets in them.

What if the fabric for curtains is very thin?

When the tenderness and lightness of the fabric chosen for sewing causes concern that it may not withstand the installation of the rings, it is possible to sew a curtain on the grommets as follows:

The finished curtain with eyelets is hung on the eaves, threading the bar into the holes of the rings.

  1. Handle the bottom and side sections of the cloth, as described above, leaving the top edge unprocessed. A tape of length equal to the width of the cut of thin fabric with allowances for processing the side sections is cut out of a more dense material. Its width can be any, taking into account the double size of the rings, the "comb" and the distance from the lower border of the eyelet to the junction of the border and the cloth plus 4-5 cm at the hem.
  2. Dimple and mark on the seamy side of the fabric the middle line of the border along its length. Lay the tape and glue it with an iron through a thick fabric. Allow for hem (2-2.5 cm) to iron on the tape. Iron off the 2nd hem on the tape-free side.
  3. From the seamy side to stitch butt seams, twist the curb there, iron the seams. Place the curtain cloth between the layers of the curb fabric so that the part with the glued tape is on the front side of the curtain. The width of the strip inserted inside the border should be 2-2.5 cm. Cleave with pins and detach at a distance of 1-2 mm from the edge of the border. Iron the curb and install the grommets as described above.

Curtains with eyelets do not require hanging on hooks or clips. The eaves are threaded directly into the holes of the rings. If everything was done carefully, then the curtain automatically folds into a soft drape.

What you need to know before installing the grommets.

1. What are the grommets and which is better to choose?
Eyelets vary:
on the material from which they are made (metal or plastic);
in shape (round, figured);
by coloring (transparent, monochromatic colored, imitating the color of metal, wood, leather and other materials);
the diameter of the inner hole (from 10.5 to 50 mm).

Depending on the curtain model that you want to receive as a result, and the eaves on which it will be attached, you must choose the grommets. Most often, round eyelets are installed to match the cornice, furniture fittings or curtain material. But if you want to focus on the grommets themselves as a decorative element of a curtain, you can use figured grommets. For example, eyelets in the form of a steering wheel or a dolphin for children's curtains in the marine style.

The diameter of the hole of the grommet must be 1.5 cm greater than the diameter of the rod (pipe) of the cornice. Grommets will be stuck on the rod.

As for the choice of the material of the grommet, it is more practical to use plastic. They do not damage the eaves bar, move quietly along the eaves, there is no risk that the metal will oxidize during washing and the curtains will rust with the rust. Plastic eyelets can be removed at the time of washing, and then put back. In addition, plastic grommets are cheaper than metal ones and do not need a special press to install them.

2. Where to buy the grommets and how much they cost.
Price eyelets depends on their size, shape, material and quality. The average price of plastic circular grommets in Moscow is 40-50 rubles. We do not recommend buying cheaper eyelets, as they are likely to be of poor quality. You, after all, probably, do not need eyelets, from which the paint will be erased at the very first wash. It also does not make sense to pay for round grommets more expensively, since this means that the seller simply made too much margin on his goods. Figured eyelets are more expensive than round ones, the average price is 50-70 rubles.
In Kiev, eyelets saw in Leroy Merlen. Plastic, for 7 hryvnia. there are different colors. Most likely, grommets can also be found in the Epicenter and in other places where curtains are sewn or fabrics are sold for them.

3. How many grommets are needed.
When calculating the number of eyelets that would be required for a curtain, we proceed from the following:

a) The number of eyelets on the curtain should be even (i.e. 8, 10, 12, 16 and so on). This is necessary so that both side edges of the curtains are directed towards the window. If you set an odd number of grommets, one edge will be directed toward the room. It looks ugly.

b) The optimal distance between the centers of the grommets is 18 cm. If exactly 18 fails, it is not scary. You can do a little more or a little less. The main thing is that the distance between the centers of the grommets should not be more than 22 cm or less than 15 cm. Then the folds will be beautiful and even.

c) From the side edge of the curtain to the center of the first eyelet, there is a distance of 5 - 7 cm. This distance depends on how wide the side edge you are making is from the diameter of the eyelet. It is necessary to make it sufficient so that the grommet does not get on the side hem. Otherwise it will not close due to too much thickness of the fabric. It is not worth doing a very large distance, otherwise the free end of the curtains will bend ugly.

Calculate the number of grommets:

1) n1 = (L - 2a): 18 + 1, where n1 is the calculated number of eyelets,
L is the width of the finished curtains on which the grommets will be installed, in centimeters,
a is the distance from the side edge of the curtain to the center of the first eyelet, in centimeters.

2) n2 is the even number closest to n1, that is, the same number of eyelets that we want to know.

Example: Your curtain is 2 meters wide (i.e. 200 cm). The grommets you will install have a hole diameter (inner diameter) of 45 mm (4.5 cm) and an outer diameter of 75 mm (7.5 cm). Bend the side edge you want to do 2.2 cm.

Then the distance from the side edge of the curtain to the center of the first grommet.

Thus, L = 200 cm, a = 6.3 cm. Calculate the number of eyelets:

n1 = (200 cm - 2 x 6.3 cm): 18 cm + 1 = 11.4 pcs.

But we need an even number of eyelets, so we round n1 to 12 or 10. Moreover, if we take 10 eyelets, the distance between their centers will be:

b = (200 cm - 2 x 6.3 cm): (10 - 1) = 20.82 cm,

and if we take 12 eyelets, then the distance between the centers of the eyelets will be:

b = (200 cm - 2 x 6.3 cm): (12 - 1) = 17.04 cm.

What is the best distance to do, you decide. But keep in mind that the greater the distance between the grommet, the larger the fold. So proceed from what kind of curtains you are more comfortable with.

By the way, if you have two curtains, do not forget to multiply n2 by 2.

4. What is required to install the grommets.
In addition to the grommets themselves, you will need duplicate material to reinforce the top of the curtain. It is necessary to strengthen the fabric of the curtains, otherwise the grommet will not hold due to the material displacement. In addition, the fortified upper curtains drape more beautifully, the folds are clearer.

The most convenient way to do this is to use a special cringing tape, which is a ready-made strip of hot-melt material. Grommet tape is made of different widths: 5, 7, 10 and 12 cm. Choose a tape of a width that is larger than the outer diameter of the grommet plus 2 cm. For example, if you put grommets with an outer diameter of 7.5 cm, then the grommet will suit you 10 and 12 cm. And if you want to put small grommets, with an external diameter of 3.6 cm, you can use a 7 cm grommet. Transparent grommet is available for transparent fabrics. Grommet tape is sold in specialized departments and stores. You can also order it from us, with delivery.

To strengthen the top of the curtains under the grommets, you can also use a dense dublerin, but this is less convenient, since it will have to be cut, and because of the need to dock the strip, the top will be less accurate. If you do decide to use dublerin, place the joints of the adhesive material between the installation points of the grommets, where the curtain will bend towards the wall. This will avoid excessive thickness of the fabric, because of which the grommet may not close, and hide the junction.

You will also need an iron for gluing the grommet or dublerin, a measuring tape and a pencil or marker for marking, a scissors or a punch for cutting holes for eyelets.

5. How to prepare a curtain to install eyelets.
The grommets are installed on a fully finished curtain. That is, all edges must be processed. If the curtain is lined, it should also be sewn.

The top of the curtains must be duplicated with an eyelet tape or dublerin.

The drapery rate of the curtains on the grommet is taken 2 - 2.5. Otherwise they look ugly. That is, in order for the finished draped curtain on the eaves to occupy 1 meter, in the flattened state it should have a width of 2-2.5 meters. Consider this when calculating the required amount of fabric.

There are two main ways to finish the top of the curtains on the grommet. In the first case, the curtain fabric is a whole. In the second - the upper part of the curtains trimmed with another type of fabric.

The combination of fabrics in the curtains on the grommets is used both for aesthetic and practical reasons. For example, if the curtain on which you are going to install the grommets is made of lightweight material (tulle, veil, organza, nets), then it will be rather difficult to tidy up the top edge. This is due to the mobility of the fibers of these fabrics and their transparency.

The second frequent reason for trimming the top of the curtains on the grommet is another type of fabric - the curtain material is not sufficiently high. For example, if the height to the top of the rod of your cornice is 250 cm, then the height of the material for the curtain should be: 250 cm - 1-2 cm (distance from the floor to the lower edge of the curtain) + 250 * 0.02 (for shrinkage) + 2-5 cm (curtain comb) + 20-24 cm (double top hem) + 4-15 cm (bottom processing) = 279-298 cm. And the height of curtain fabrics are most often 280 cm.

Therefore, you need to calculate in advance whether you have enough material height for processing the top:

1. Roll the material of the future curtains. To do this, the fabric needs to be wetted, dried to a wet state and ironed gently with an iron. This is done so that the curtain material shrinks before cutting and sewing, and not after the first wash, and the finished curtains do not suddenly become shorter by 5 cm. This is especially important for natural fabrics: cotton, flax, wool, silk. Some synthetic fabrics do not shrink, but decoding is still worth doing, because it is usually not known in advance whether the material will shrink and how large it will be. After decating, measure the height of the material again.

2. Decide what kind of hem and what comb you want to make and calculate what height of material is required for your product. If after decorating you have enough fabric, you can proceed to sewing curtains on one-piece eyelets. If not enough, you have to combine the canvas curtains.

The sequence of sewing curtains on the grommet is as follows:

Processing the top of the curtains on the grommet.

1) Measure from the top edge 2 of the width of the grommet (the edge of the fabric is not taken into account, it must be carefully cut off). Bend to the wrong side and press.

2) Insert a cringing tape into the fold, with the edge to the fold of the fabric, departing from the lateral edge of the width of the hem. Bend the fabric again so that it wraps the grommet and gently glue it with an iron.

Sizing in small areas, how many iron platform captures: align the area, put the iron, press, wait until it is glued and move to the next section. It is not necessary to drive an iron over the area to be glued, because the fabric can move and stick unevenly.

It is necessary to glue the tape so that the hot melt melts, but does not leak out through the fabric of the curtains. Therefore, you need to know what time and with what pressure to keep the iron on the treated area. To find out for sure, you need to experiment before you start to process the top of the curtains. Buy fabric and grommet with a small margin and practice. A small overpayment pays off by the lack of risk of spoiling a large product.

In order not to burn the material of the curtains, use the ironing (thin cotton or linen material, which is placed during the ironing between the iron, and the iron).

3) When glueing almost the entire top of the curtain and reaching the second side edge, cut off the rest of the grommet, retreating from the edge the width of the side hem.

4) Fasten the upper lapel with machine stitching, departing 1-2 mm from the bend edge.

Processing the sides and bottom of the curtain on the grommet.
In general, the processing of the lower and lateral edges of the curtains on the grommets does not differ from the similar processing of other types of curtains. There are various ways, the choice of a particular method of processing depends on the type of fabric, your wishes for the appearance of the curtains and the level of your skill.

6. Mark up the holes for the grommets on the curtains.

1) Spread the finished curtain on a flat surface. All measurements and markings need to be made when the curtain is ironed out and lies flat.

2) Mark the position of the extreme grommets. To do this, take the grommet and position it at the desired distance from the top and side edges of the curtains. Make sure that he does not go to the seams, otherwise the grommet may not close due to too much thickness of the fabric. Place a dot in the center of the grommet with a simple pencil or fabric marker. Do the same for the other side curtains. Please note: the distance that you retreated from the top for the first grommet must be maintained for all other grommets so that all the holes are at the same level.

3) Calculate the distance between the centers of the grommets. To do this, measure the distance between the centers of the marked end eyelets and divide it by the number of eyelets reduced by 1. For example, if you got a distance of 187.4 cm and the number of eyelets is 12, then the distance between their centers will be:
187.4: (12-1) = 17 cm

4) Mark the centers of all the remaining grommets by putting points with a simple pencil or marker for the fabric.

5) Mark the holes for the grommets. To do this, take the grommet and, putting it on the center markup, circle the inner hole. Previously affixed point in this case should be located exactly in the center of the grommet.
upstairs

7. Cut holes.
The most convenient way to cut the grommet is with a special punch. But you can use the usual scissors.

Cut holes for grommets need, retreating 1-1.5 mm from the markup. This is necessary so that the edge of the hole is completely hidden inside the grommet. No more hole should be made, otherwise the grommet will not hold tightly enough.

Try to cut the holes carefully so that the edge does not moss and crumble. Holes in all layers of fabric should be the same.
upstairs

8. Install the grommets.
Apply the halves of the grommet from the front and back sides of the curtains. Make sure they are level and press down to the characteristic click. Special equipment for the installation of plastic eyelets is not required, they are installed manually.(250 cm -   3 cm X 2 (on hemming from sides) -   5 cm X 2 (distance from the edge to the center of the first grommets) ) / (14 - 1 ) = 18 cm

Those. the finished curtain will have a total width of 244 cm, 14 eyelets will be located at a distance of 18 cm from each other (between the centers) and 5 cm - the distance from the center of the extreme eyelets to the edge of the curtain.

Curtains in the apartment - it is a comfort, warmth, unique atmosphere. For a long time they hung on the windows. For their hanging used a string or string. They were just a piece of cloth. Sometimes they hung curtains on the windows. It was the height of perfection in the design of windows and interior openings. Gone are the old days. Today for curtains used curtain rods of various designs. Cloths attached to them in different ways. Mounts are constantly being improved.

Cringles today among the most popular ways of fastening curtains of different styles. The demand for them is constantly growing. What is it? These plastic or metal products are additions to curtains. Most often they have the shape of a ring with an inner hole diameter of 1.5-50 mm. They can be in the form of a square, a triangle, a flower, a dolphin. Painting them can imitate leather or metal, wood of various species. Their color is the most diverse.

Portieres of different models determine the choice of color and shape of fixings The most commonly used products are round. The color is chosen such that is combined with the color of the canvas, cornice, furniture. In order for the fabric to move freely along the eaves and not get stuck, you need to choose rings with an inner diameter greater than the diameter of the cornice by 15 mm.

Advantages of grommets

Using curtains with eyelets has its advantages:

  1. They move along any rail without any noise.
  2. The folds on the canvases are symmetrical and beautiful.
  3. Eyelets save curtains from damage and sagging of the canvas.
  4. They add extra beauty to the interior.
  5. Wash such products can be without removing the fixings.

Number and material of eyelets

The metal rings look beautiful, but they scratch the cornice bar, they make noise, they can stain the curtains with the wash when they are washed. Plastic products do not have these disadvantages. They cost less metal.

You can install them on curtains without the use of a special press.

How many mounts need to be installed on each curtain? The number of them must be even. This rule cannot be broken. With an even number of side edges of any curtains will be directed to the window. With an odd number of edges will look in different directions. It does not look very nice. To calculate the number of parts you need to know the width of the curtain. The ideal distance between them is considered to be 18 cm. It is allowed to change it within 15-22 cm. The side rings are set 5-7 cm from the edge of the fabric.

  • n1 is the quantity sought;
  • L is the width of the web;
  • and - the distance from the edge of the canvas to the center of the extreme cringle.

If the result is an odd number, it should be rounded to the nearest even number.

  1. Curtain width 200 cm (L = 200).
  2. Distance (a) = 6 cm.

We substitute this data into the formula: n1 = (200 - 2 x 6): 18 + 1 = 11.4 pcs. The result is rounded to 12. Result: for the curtain 2 m wide, 12 grommets are required.

You can use another formula: CL = (W - 2p): P + 1.

Designations in this formula:

  • CL - the number of eyelets on the curtain.
  • W - the width of the curtains.
  • p is the distance from the center of the extreme grommet to the edge of the curtain.
  • P - the distance between the centers of the holes.

Calculation example:

  1. Curtain width (W) = 300 cm.
  2. The distance from the edge to the center of the nearest grommet (p) = 7.2 cm.
  3. The distance between the centers of the holes (P) = 20 cm.

Substitute these figures in the formula and get: CL = (300 - 2 x 7.2): 20 + 1 = 15.28 pieces. When rounding it turns out 14 or 16 details.

What you need to install eyelets

Cringles are installed in sewing workshops, but this can be done at home with your own hands. To work you need to prepare:

  1. Ready ironed curtains.
  2. Grommet tape from the thermoglue material.
  3. Threads.
  4. Tape measure.
  5. Pencil or marker on the fabric.
  6. Sharp scissors or special punch.
  7. Iron.

Quick Installation Guide:

  1. You need to purchase the required number of rings.
  2. Mark up their location on the canvas.
  3. Cut with scissors or punch holes on the markup.
  4. Put the halves of the plastic grommet on both sides of the curtains, press them until they click.

Attaching grommets to fabric

Grommets are fastened like this:

  1. It is necessary to strengthen the very top of the canvas. After that, the finished product will look more beautiful, the grommets will not fall out as a result of a possible displacement of the fabric, the folds on the fabric will be more clearly expressed. Strengthen the top of the curtains with a special cringing tape. You can replace her dublerinom. Grommet tape is made of hot melt material. Its width is 5-12 cm. It is recommended to use ribbons whose width is 2-3 cm larger than the outer diameter of the grommets. The color is usually chosen according to the color of the curtain itself. Working with Dublerin presents more difficulties, since it needs to be cut.
  2. Mark up with a pencil or marker. First, the hole centers are measured and indicated. Then the ring is superimposed on this place and enclosed from the inside with a pencil. All markings are made on a well-ironed cloth lying on a flat surface, which may be an ironing board or table. It should not have any folds and dents.
  3. Scissors or a special punch makes a hole in the fabric.
  4. Both parts of the grommet are inserted into the hole and snap into place. For installation of metal products may need a special press.

Each woman can sew beautiful curtains and equip them with grommets at no extra cost.  The main thing in this business is to choose the right materials that are appropriate for the style and design of the room. Be patient and do everything without haste and carefully. The result is not long in coming.

Tulle on grommets will be one of the non-standard solutions for interior design of the room. Hang curtains on the grommet can be in the kitchen, living room and even a bedroom. But what is the principle of creating such devices?

Cringles are very often used for avant-garde designs of curtains and are perfectly combined with metal cornices in the style of techno or hi-tech.

It may seem that the installation of such devices is a complex operation that can be carried out only on special equipment, but it is not. Eyelets are rings that are located at the top of a curtain or curtain.  You can install them yourself. The main thing is to follow the rules, which will be written below, and prepare everything necessary.

Preparation and manufacture

First you need to make the side seams, then ironed over the fabric 1 cm on the wrong side. After this, we cut out the adhesive fabric. It is not glued to the front side, but to the back. Slightly departing from the bend processing, we begin to glue.

The width of the adhesive fabric should be commensurate with the diameter of the rings. It will be necessary to leave a certain number of centimeters from the top so that the grommet does not find the seam to be laid. There are several types of adhesive fabric, it may require exposure not only to temperature, but also to steam.

On the iron, turn off steam and slowly glue. After the glue tape is glued, turn the bar on the wrong side, fix the upper edge with needles and the part that goes under the seam. Fold the fabric so that it lays down smoothly, and once again we go through the iron.

After the top half is ready, you need to make a seam with a machine. We enclose the part where the side and main seams are present along the entire length of the finished product. Now the plank is ready and it should be placed face up, then we begin to mark the ring. Set aside the desired distance from the side seam, then from the top fold to the ring. This is done so that the device does not fly off and there is a place on top.

Rings lie in the middle of the bar. We draw the inner circle, cut it, open the grommet and install. This trimming method is suitable for patterned tulle and curtains. If an organza is used in the work, then another bar should be made under the bar from the fabric under the glue part. In this case, the white glue fabric will slightly hide the color organza.

The height of the fabric is measured in finished form from the inner circumference of the set grommets, from the top point to the bottom of the product. What height is needed, and this is postponed. If the tulle on the rings is already processed, then it is necessary to calculate the height in the opposite direction. The desired height + 1 cm of the ring + the distance to the edge of the top bar, + the size of the bar + 1 cm is laid from the bottom. Thus, the height of the fabric is calculated in the opposite direction.

Putting the ring to the desired distance, circle the circle inside and then open the grommet. We substitute the lower part from the bottom, having previously fixed the circle with needles so that the fabric is in one place. We cover it with the second part and with some effort press down until it clicks. A click should be necessary - it will talk about fixation.

Fabric calculation

The scheme for calculating rings for curtains is very simple. The first thing you need to know is the diameter of the grommet itself, most often it is 5.5 cm. The number of rings, as is known, must be even.

Suppose we have a curtain with a length of 1.55 m in finished form, we must subtract the length that is not useful in the calculation (3 cm on one side and 3 cm on the other before installing rings + 5.5 cm, diameter of one eyelet). These readings are deducted in advance. The remaining amount is divided by 20.5 cm (15 cm distance between grommets + 5.5 cm).

Total: (155- (3 + 3 + 5.5)): 20.5 = 7.

We get the number of distances between the grommets, but since 1 ring was included in the calculation, its size was subtracted, we have 8 grommets. The quantity is even and it meets the requirements.

3 cm, which are subtracted on the sides, - the distance from the edge along with the side seam to the outermost eyelet. Less deducting distance does not make sense, since the ring may fall on the side seam. Now you can calculate the approximate height of the tulle. As you know, in finished form, it has a large size.

Example. From the length of the tulle we take the amount (it is better to retreat from the edge not by 3, but by more than 4 cm, because the tulle is large, and nothing terrible will happen to it). We calculate according to the same scheme and divide by a distance of 20.5, since the true distance is still unknown. The result: 600- (4 + 4 + 5.5) = 586.5, again we divide 586 by 20.5 and we get 29. This result does not suit, because it must be even. We divide 586 by 29, we get 20.2.

For 30 rings, a distance of 20.2 cm was obtained. It turned out to be quite an optimal size. The fold will fall perfectly. The main thing is to be from 10 cm. This distance is small and not suitable for installation.

Curtains and curtains get a second life, they become the perfect complement to any interior.

Tulle on grommets goes well with most styles. Thanks to these devices, you can achieve the unsurpassed effect of a beautiful wave.

Sooner or later, but any housewife and a needlewoman may be confronted with the question, how much fabric do you need to buy to sew curtains? How to make the right calculation and make the right measurements? Today curtains on the grommets are very popular. Such curtains fit well into any interior, be it a kitchen, living room, bedroom, even a bathroom. we will consider step by step the whole scheme of work on the calculation of fabric for curtains with eyelets.
  We will need:

  • roulette,
  • paper,
  • pencil pen.
  The length of the fabric can be measured in 2 ways.
  The first way we measure the distance from the top edge of the bar to the floor level.

  The second method, we measure the distance from the bottom edge of the bar to the floor level, and also measure the diameter of the bar and add these 2 values.

It is advisable to make measurements along the edges of the eaves and in the middle, because in our apartments the floors and ceilings are sometimes not perfectly flat. When done 3 measurements, choose the smallest. For example, at one point you got 250 cm, at another - 251 cm, and at the third - 250.5 cm, then we choose 250 cm, because this value is the smallest.

The curtains on the grommets have a comb on top, which is usually from 2-4 cm.

  So the calculation of the curtain length in the finished form will look as follows:
  to the distance from the bar to the floor level + 2-4 cm (this is a comb) - 2 cm (distance from the floor level so that the curtain does not touch the floor). In my case, 250 + 3 - 2 = 251 cm.
  Although, if someone likes the curtains to go down to the floor and spread on it, then it is necessary not to subtract 2 cm, but add 10-50 cm, depending on the curtain model.

So, we made the calculation of the length of the curtains in the finished form, but remember, the allowances for the treatment of seams are not considered here, more detailed information on the processing of the lower and side seams can be found. When processing the upper edge of the curtain on the grommet, you need to remember that you need to make an increase of fabric, equal to the double width of the grommet.

  The curtains on the grommets can be made with a cuff, how to sew such curtains, see
  Now we define the width of the curtains. Why do we measure the working surface of the eaves? now, it’s enough to remember 2 rules:

  • minimum width tulle = length of the working surface of the cornice x 2,
  • the minimum width of the portiere = length of the working surface of the cornice x1.5.
  Who likes pomp of folds, then it is necessary to increase the coefficient. Also, do not forget about the processing of the side seams.
  When calculating the width of curtains on the grommets, it is necessary to determine the number of grommets and their location. I make it so that the number of grommets is even, then the edges of the curtains are directed to one side, if the number of louvers is odd, then the edges of the curtains are directed to different directions.

  It should also be remembered, the principle of the arrangement of the grommets, the distance between the grommets should be in the range from 15 to 22 cm. From the treated edges, the first and last grommet are located at a distance of 5-7 cm. From the edge, see below.

  After you have multiplied the working width of the cornice by a factor of 1.5, draw an eyelet layout, you may have to add some width or subtract a little.
  I hope the principle of calculation is clear and you can now independently calculate the necessary and necessary amount of fabric for curtains on the grommets.
