Despite the abundance of modern efficient materials, at the moment traditional natural stone and its artificial counterpart  do not lose their popularity.

Thanks to their unsurpassed decorative qualities, they mainly find their use. in the design of facades and interiors of buildings. This material of any origin is distinguished by durability, absolute fire resistance, undemanding care. Its high aesthetic characteristics, variety of shades and textures give architects complete creative freedom, allowing you to create unique pompous ensembles and chamber cottages.

Many-sidedness of facing by a decorative stone

Artificial products are extremely widely used at the moment in finishing works, despite the fact that they are significantly inferior to natural ones in their physical characteristics. This is due to the ease of installation of decorative analogue, the ease of cladding elements that do not require a strong base, low price, a huge variety of textures and width of color gamut.

Application when organizing a porch of organic forms

  The composition and technology of production are the following types of artificial products:

  • concrete lining  manufactures by compaction of high-grade cement mortar by vibration. Caring for the finish - coating with paint and firming primer every 2-3 years;
  • polymer tile  different elasticity, low price and relatively low strength;
  • products based on synthetic resins in absolute precision repeat the appearance and shades of natural raw materials, the crumb or dust of which is part of;
  • porcelain stoneware  due to its production from feldspar calcined at more than 1,400 ° C, it has high durability and unique strength;
  • clinker tiles  perfectly imitates stone and brick masonry, differing from them in more democratic cost and low weight. It has good qualities of sound and heat insulation, protects against weathering;
  • flexible coating  - sandstone tiles glued with a polymer to a textile base. Differs in durability, elasticity, antistatic properties, low weight and ease of installation on complex surfaces - columns, cornices, arches.

Exquisite duet - plaster and decorative stone

Free flowing of various texture planes on the facade

These materials are perfectly combined with each other in the decoration of the house, creating exquisite exteriors. They can be combined to create planes with clear boundaries or smoothly flowing into each other. For example, the torn edges of the corners cladding with artificial limestone are transferred to a plastered surface. In the same way make out window and doorways, arches.

On a note! At the moment, a popular solution - stones in the form of chaotic inclusions appear through the plaster.

  Decoration of masonry from artificial products

When using decorative cladding for the design of the lower part of the building, an extremely important point is the reinforcement of the surface of the walls to strengthen their connection with the decoration. Above the basement, the mounting of ebb is necessary - it is most susceptible to the negative effects of precipitation. This measure, which is carried out after laying, before finishing the facade, will protect the foundation from moisture.

Tip! To create a harmonious facade, the base material must be in harmony with the color of the roof. The shade of the finishing elements of the bottom of the house should be chosen slightly darker than the base to which it will be attached.

Facing the corners of the building

This design of the corners is also called rustling, representing densely located rectangles or strips with pronounced seams between them. They are designed to give the facades sophistication and emphasize the reliability of the structure. If 100 years ago, the rustic work was carried out at the expense of complex brickwork, today it is used to create modern materials, including tiles of artificial origin, to create it. This technique is also often used to design the window and door openings of houses. Recently, an asymmetrical version of the rusting and its “ragged” shape has become increasingly popular.

Tip! In order to achieve the most natural effect of masonry from natural materials, it is necessary to choose design elements from different batches, since natural stone is the same in color and shape.

Decorating the facade of the house panels under the stone

For the design of buildings can be used elements of different principles of installation, colors, textures and dimensions. In addition, facade panels with imitating, for example, natural marble, coating are separated by the production material, of which plastic and PVC are the most popular. Their surfaces can replicate a variety of rocks: granite, limestone, thin slate.

Due to the peculiarities of the production technologies, the cladding elements are highly durable and resistant to the adverse effects of the environment. Front panels are able to serve for additional warming and sound insulation of a building.

Houses with siding with imitation of rocks

This type of facade finish can have different coating options: metal, resin, cement-sand compositions, various polymers. The similarity of the surface with a natural stone is achieved by adding malachite, marble, and other rocks to the forming mass of small crumb. Another method is coating with an artificial product made of cement-sand mixture, resins and coloring pigments.

On a note! At the moment, the most popular siding, imitating the surface of a wild stone. High similarity is achieved due to the production of products by the method of casting from propylene using templates from natural cobblestones.

  Spectacular natural stone houses

The nature of the lining of buildings with natural rocks depends on the architectural design of the facades. Finishing can be solid or partial, from polished or "wild" plates. It can be made of stone slabs of the same breed or in a combined version. Competently selected and technology-based decoration elements made from natural materials require minimal maintenance during operation.

Tip! With various methods of laying plates, the most impressive look is a combined facing with inserts of decorative fragments.

The advantages of finishing natural material before artificial counterparts:

  • extremely neat and respectable appearance;
  • the longest possible service life and extremely high resistance to mechanical damage;
  • the ability to maintain their qualities under the influence of temperature fluctuations, humidity and sunlight;
  • lack of tendency to deformation and cracking;
  • reliable protection against fire;
  • the uniqueness of natural textures and shades;
  • there is no need to treat the material from mold and corrosion, which can significantly reduce operating costs.

Breed differs in resistance to various atmospheric influences, keeping the primitiveness extremely long time. Most often used for facing the basement, corners, openings of doors and windows.

Wildlife of natural origin includes:

  • torn sandstone, usually laid in a chaotic manner;
  • boulders - water-treated fragments. They may have lake, sea, river and glacial origin. The most valuable are the boulders in the size of 15-35 cm;
  • sea pebbles - the rest of rocks having a flat and even shape;
  • meotis (shell bout) has a structure with long fibers and properties similar to ceramics.

Important! At the moment, the imitation of “wild” stone slabs is also made by artificial means. Such products have an extremely rich color range and a wide range of textures.

Booth in the design of houses

Booth is a unified concept, which includes sandstone, dolomite, and limestone, having only common parameters: the weight should not exceed 50 kg, and the size should be 500 mm. In its structure impurities of marl and clay are unacceptable. Booth can not have cracks and delamination.

Combined stone and wood houses

The combination of wood and stone materials is a rational and cost-effective solution:

  • facilitating the total weight of structures allows you to abandon the construction of a massive foundation;
  • fire-resistant stone materials for the first floor, where there may be a living room with a fireplace, a furnace, a garage, a bath-house - the best option;
  • wood - natural insulation, which makes it possible to save on thermal insulation;
  • the ground floor of stone materials not subject to decay increases the durability of the building;
  • reduction of time from the beginning of construction to the settlement - while the wood is shrinking, the first stone floor can already be finished and occupied;
  • stone-wooden houses provide tremendous opportunities for the realization of architectural ideas.

Structurally and economically the most justified option is to use stone materials in the combined cottages for the lower tier, and build the upper one out of wood. This technologically simplifies the construction process and makes it possible to evenly distribute the load on the foundation.

Tip! For additional weight loss for the construction of the second floor is better to use not a rounded log or timber, and frame technology.

  Stone is a versatile material with the highest rates of strength, durability, fire resistance. At the same time, it fits perfectly into any architectural style. It is in perfect harmony with all existing materials, starting with wood and ending with chrome metal.

All projects of beautiful stone houses in the photo have different degrees of complexity of implementation, so it is desirable to trust these works to professionals - a number of works with stone require special knowledge and skills, the use of specific technologies.

Video assembly photo of houses made of natural stone

Probably, after 50 years, the houses shown in the video will be perceived as we today perceive the houses of the classical style, however today these are modern versions, pleasing the eye with novelty and unusual approach to the realization of natural well-known material.

The stone is thorough, durable, durable, does not rot and does not deteriorate from moisture, is fireproof. But in the stone building, many feel a lack of comfort, and the city’s stone apartments are fed up with order. In addition, the stone heats up too long, if, say, you need to arrive in the winter in an unheated cottage.

The tree has a beneficial effect on the psychological climate in the home, creating an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, and perfectly regulates the humidity in the room (“breathes”), creating the optimal microclimate for people. In a wooden house, a different, more personal and emotional perception of a home arises than in a typical cell of a high-rise building in the capital. But many are frightened by the fact that wood is a highly combustible material; besides, wood is afraid of moisture and microorganisms.

Combining stone bottom and wooden top in one building, we have the opportunity to “kill two birds with one stone” by dividing the functions between the stone and wooden parts in such a way as to take advantage of all the advantages of these materials. Yes, and externally combined house looks outside the box and very beautiful. Therefore projects of the combined houses enjoy deserved popularity.

Where is wood used, and where is brick

The first floor of a combined house can be built of brick (and in this case the most advantageous solution - with external insulation according to the “ventilated facade” method) or from foam or gas concrete blocks. In it, as a rule, there are such “flammable” rooms as a kitchen, boiler room, fireplace room, sauna, and also a garage.

The second, attic floor is built of wood: rounded logs, glued or profiled timber, unplaned timber with external insulation and exterior trim. Far from the wet earth and sheltered from the rain with large overhangs of the roof, besides, treated with a protective and decorative composition, wood lasts a long time, does not deteriorate and does not age. On the second floor with its comfort and ecology are usually living rooms.

The interior of the combined house is based on the "dialogue" of the two main materials - stone and wood, which blend harmoniously with each other, at the same time creating diversity and originality. Usually, the interiors of a combined cottage are solved in one of the varieties of "country" style, designed to highlight the beauty of natural materials and natural forms.

Chalet-style houses

Combined cottage - a very beautiful and time-tested type of construction. Since the Middle Ages, such buildings were erected in the Alps, originally - as shepherd's huts. Subsequently, brought to perfection, the alpine style of the combined houses "chalet" gained immense popularity in Europe. It has bright and recognizable features, such as a sloping dual-slope roof with large overhangs and a visor, spacious terraces, often taken out of the house’s perimeter and resting on columns. But at the same time, the architectural style "chalet" gives the widest scope of creative imagination. For example, the second floor can be made in the form of a log house or in the medieval half-timbered style.

By the way, in pre-revolutionary Russia such houses were also held in high esteem. Practical merchants, for example, often put a wooden wooden house on a stone first floor, where the store, warehouse and utility rooms were located.

The specific choice of building materials and design solutions allows flexible and wide variation in the budget for the construction of a combined country house. We offer you both standard projects, and construction of the turnkey combined houses on individual projects.

The strength of the brick and the natural beauty of the tree - these are the main criteria that have made people choose the materials for centuries. And if you combine them, you can generally get an unexpected result in terms of aesthetics.

Which option to give preference: the first floor is brick, the second is wooden - or is it simple, as shown in the above, to use wood for the manufacture of architectural elements?

And in general, what projects of the combined houses of brick and wood can be adopted by those who decided to build a house with their own hands? You will learn about this and many other things from the material presented by us.

How to combine wood and brick

Both wood and brick can play the role of both constructive and finishing materials with equal success - therefore, they can be easily combined. If we talk about the building as such, it can be called combined, when at least two technologies of wall construction have been used in the construction process.

Note! So, a tree is less durable than a brick, it is more often combined like this: the 1st floor is brick, the 2nd floor is wooden - the house looks very interesting, especially if any architectural style is maintained in its design.

Besides the fact that such combinations greatly decorate the facade, they also provide an opportunity to really save the construction budget. The use of lighter material at the top level allows to reduce the load on the foundation.

And then, the second floor can be erected not only from a heavy bar or log - there are other alternatives.

Frame walls for the second floor

One of them can be considered frame technology. Its essence lies in the construction of a wooden frame, which serves as the basis for the creation of a multilayer structure of thick insulation, protective roll membranes, inner and outer sheathing.

As a result, light and very warm walls are obtained:

  • It should be said that outside the wooden frame is sheathed with moisture-resistant plywood or OSB. These materials are also related to wood, as are its derivatives. In the process of finishing, they are often painted using a decorative decorative jointing with wooden or composite slats, which makes it possible to carry out the design “under the half-timbered frames” that you see in the photo below.

  • If the price is crucial for you, then keep in mind that the construction of the second floor using frame technology, gives the maximum savings. You can, of course, use it for the construction of the whole house, but along with indisputable advantages, there are many drawbacks. Insulation embedded in the structure has a limited service life - after a couple of decades, the casing has to be dismantled in order to replace it.
  • Timber, from which the frame is assembled, too, no matter how handled, but eventually decays. Therefore, in terms of service life, frame houses can not compete with the durability of brick buildings. Add here the increased fire danger and attractiveness for insects and rodents - and you will understand that it is better to build the first floor of the house out of bricks.

  • Planning in such houses is usually carried out as follows. At the bottom there are common areas: lobby, kitchen and dining room, living room. Guest rooms are also more often located on the ground floor. On the upper level, they plan bedrooms, children's rooms, equip a working area: an office or a workshop. Bathrooms in a two-story house are usually made at the bottom and at the top.
  • By the way, in the projected low-rise buildings, the frame can be provided not from wood, but from metal, which will allow to introduce elements of brickwork not only downstairs, but also on the second floor. In such projects, panoramic glazing is often present, which makes such combinations even more interesting.

  • The concepts of many architectural styles: high-tech, techno, minimalism - do not involve the use of wood at all. That is why in such houses there are no wooden windows and traditional frame roofs constructed from wooden rafters. At the heart of their design, various combinations of materials such as concrete, metal, glass are used.

A brick, if present, is only as a constructive material, the surface of which is lined or plastered. If wood is used, it is only for partial finishing, a version of which you can see in the example below.

Well, to each his own, and do not argue about tastes! Next you will be offered instructions for the installation of wooden structures, without which it is impossible to build an ordinary private house.

Wooden construction for a brick house

The brick wall is an excellent solid foundation for the construction of the second floor of wood. By and large, there is not much difference, to make a full second floor, or build on the attic.

The difference between them is only in the height of the walls, and the absence of a beam ceiling in the attic.

The connection of brick and wood between floors

Since the entire upper part of the house is made of wood, which means it has a relatively small weight, it is possible not to make armored belts between floors. In general, the decision on the device of armored zones on the walls, in low-rise construction is made depending on the carrying capacity of the wall material and the type of overlap.

Note! By itself, the brick has the necessary strength to withstand even the weight of reinforced concrete slabs - the main thing is that the thickness of the masonry was properly designed for this. Moreover, it is bricks, along with concrete, that are often used to build armored walls on walls made of foam and gas blocks. So, you can not worry about this, even if the walls of the second floor will be built from a fairly heavy bar or log.

So:

  • If the ceiling is a beam, then an additional reinforcing row in the form of steel mesh should be provided along the top row of the brickwork. Under the slab ceiling, which creates additional loads, it will be necessary to lay several rows of interconnected reinforcing bars along the walls, as shown in the photo above.
  • But we think that if you decide to build a second floor out of wood, you are unlikely to want to complicate the work and install concrete slabs. In any case, in order to install the structural elements of the wooden walls on the brick walls, anchor bolts should be embedded in the masonry, allowing mechanical fastening.

The studs are strung with strips of roofing material, which will serve as a waterproofing layer between the perimeter of the brickwork and the lower crown of the timber or log wall. If the second floor will be erected on frame technology, beams of the lower binding will be mounted on a brick wall in the same way. Visually understand this process, allow the video in this article.

Overlapping and flooring

Before talking about how to make a wooden floor in a brick house, you need to decide on the construction of floors. The process of laying the flooring frame type, which is a wooden floor, the most simplified on the same wooden joist floor.

In this case, the boardwalk is part of a multilayered floor structure. But first, of course, you need to mount it correctly - and we will try to briefly describe how this is done.

First of all, you need to pay close attention to the quality of the timber, which will carry considerable loads:

  • First of all, it should be softwood, which works best for bending.
  • Secondly, it is better if it is a planed, well-dried timber, the length of which must completely cover the girder - the distance between the opposing load-bearing walls.

  • Since the walls of the first floor are erected of brick, the installation of floor beams is the same as in all brick houses. Their length depends on the chosen mounting method: if it is a special metal cantilever, then it is equal to the length of the run.
  • When the laying of the ends of the beams is made into specially provided sockets in the wall, then the necessary margin should also be taken into account: 12-15 cm from each end. The only thing that should not be forgotten: the wood should not be in direct contact with metal or brickwork anywhere.
  • Therefore, the ends of the beams are wrapped in a protective material without closing the ends tightly, and under them, if necessary, install shock-absorbing pads. In order to prevent the appearance of cold bridges, the free space of the recesses into which the ends of the beams will wind up is filled with insulation.

  • As for metal fasteners, it must be stainless - otherwise its corrosion will provoke the process of decay in the thickness of the wood. The construction of the attic floor is similar to the floor variant. Only the fixing of the beams to the wooden wall is made somewhat differently, and their section may be smaller - in any case, if the attic is uninhabited.
  • Since the space between the beams is then filled with insulation, the pitch of the floor elements is selected based on the width of the material, but usually does not exceed 60 cm. Beams can, of course, have a square cross section, for example: 150 * 150 mm, but this size is mainly used when they want to use them in the design of the ceiling.
  • The most economical in terms of wood consumption is the option with a cross section of 50 * 150, or even 50 * 180 mm - that is, in fact, it is a thick board that is installed on the edge. You can see an example of the assembly of a beam ceiling in the picture above. Here the insulation is laid on the boards, which hemmed the ceiling of the lower room.

  • But there is another option. To the sides of the beams mount cranial bars of a small section, which are placed on wooden shields or plywood. This approach gives more opportunities for the design of the ceiling of the lower room - for example: there you can install a suspended or suspended ceiling.
  • On top of the beams mount vapor barrier membrane, which simultaneously plays the role of a shock-absorbing layer. Then, as a rule, in the transverse direction, the counter-lattice is packed - it will serve as the basis for the installation of the floor covering. If you want to make not a plank flooring, but, say, lay a roll covering: linoleum, carpet, or embed a floor heating system in the “cake”, then you will first have to install a draft floor of plywood or chipboard.

  • A very similar scenario is made and filling the frame walls. If the second floor of your house will be built using this technology, then along the upper perimeter of the walls, as well as from the bottom, horizontal pillar racks will be installed. By the way, the tying bar here will play the role of a mauerlat, which serves as the basis of the roof truss system.
  • It, by the way, irrespective of a design of walls or overlappings, is constructed always from a tree. In addition, very few people would think of installing plastic woodwork in the openings of wooden walls - so, here you can not do without wood. The technology of installing wooden windows in a brick house is not particularly different from the process of installing them on timbered or framed walls, and instructions on this topic are easy to find.

And also, it is possible to make a balcony out of wood, and shutters, decorate a porch beautifully, build a terrace at the entrance, put up a large carport or an elegant pergola.

There are a lot of options for using wood in home design: both exterior and interior - and for those who love and know how to work with it, there is a wide field for creativity. It remains only to apply their talents in practice, and then for many years to enjoy the fruits of their labor and enjoy the power of wood.

Combining materials is a favorite occupation of designers, in capital construction it is used to solve important practical problems. Competent combination of the physical qualities of stone and wood in the bearing walls of the building gives the developer a tangible gain in value and comfort.

It is these two factors that made houses made of composite materials popular and common in modern country construction.

What combinations are reasonable and permissible during the construction of such a structure?

Most often for the walls of the first floor choose a stone (brick, solid concrete, aerated concrete or expanded clay blocks). The second floor is built from rounded logs or laminated veneer lumber.

It should be noted that combinations of different wall materials can affect the exterior finish. The combined house allows you to use any options for facade decor: the brick walls of the first floor can be finished with a blockhouse, warming them using ventilated facade technology.

The second frame floor can be trimmed with decorative plaster or stone tiles. As an example, we suggest you consider the photo below.

Looking at such a house, you will not be able to unambiguously answer the question of what its bearing walls are built of. Although it also used the combined technology of building walls. The first floor of this building is brick, lined with siding. The second is a wooden frame, decorated with ceramic tiles.

Design options for combined houses

Despite the diversity of facade decor, the construction of combined houses should comply with the main principle: 1st floor stone 2nd floor wood. It provides the building with the necessary strength and creates conditions for comfortable living on the second floor. Another problem solved by a combination of materials - reducing the complexity and cost of construction.

Anyone who does not want to spend extra money on exterior trimming, acts reasonably. The combination of stone and wood is optimal not only for constructive reasons, but also from the standpoint of aesthetics. Therefore, do not hide behind the finish that in itself looks perfect.

An example is a mansion built in a deliberately rough combination of natural stone and logs. It is fully consistent with the canons of country style.

From the harsh mountainous terrain of its genealogy, invented by alpine shepherds. It also used the idea of combining durable stone and warm wood.

Life in the mountains requires maximum reliability and functionality. Therefore, the first level of the chalet is always built from solid rock, which is not afraid of snow debris, rockfalls and water. The second floor is designed to create comfort and coziness. For these purposes, not to find a better material than natural wood.

"Generic sign" of all buildings built in the style of chalets - wide overhangs of the roof, protecting the walls from heavy rain and melting snowdrifts.

Modern combined houses of stone and wood are extremely diverse, since the choice of wall materials is very wide. If you are not satisfied with a ragged stone or flat limestone "limestone", then build the first floor out. They are quite durable and at the same time as warm as natural wood.

Preparing for construction, do not forget that houses made of foam blocks and wood require a reliable connection between the first and second floors. Cellular concrete is a rather fragile material. Therefore, it will not hold steel anchors, which fix the second level support bar.

A smart solution for this design is to fill a monolithic reinforced concrete belt over the foam block walls. It increases the spatial rigidity of the building and allows you to securely fix the anchor bolts.

The appearance of the wall of the foam block is not too expressive. Therefore, it is better to sew it with a blockhouse or siding, putting a vapor barrier and a layer of mineral insulation for the facade cladding.

For the combined construction of the cottage can be used. They are stronger than foam concrete, not so fragile and very warm. The decoration of the arbolit walls is not difficult, as any decorative plaster is perfectly supported on them.

The second floor can be built from planed timber. This material retains heat well in the residential floor and does not require finishing cladding.

If you need a three-level combined house of brick and lumber, then build it according to this scheme: the technical ground floor - monolithic reinforced concrete, the first level of brick, the second - the frame or frame.

Speaking about the frame version of the walls of the second floor, we note that it will not only save you money, but also allow you to flexibly change the internal layout, adapting it for family needs.

The frame of the second floor you can hide behind the finish. Another interesting option is to specifically highlight it, turning it into an element of facade decor. For this, half-timbered buildings are best suited - an old frame system, with racks, beams and cross-links facing the facade.

A serious problem of all cottages is dampness on the first floor. Combined house solves it simply and functionally. The lower floor is reserved for utility rooms. Here you can equip the boiler room, bath, workshop and garage. Bedrooms, bathrooms, dressing rooms, game rooms and a kitchen are located on the second, more dry floor.

Combined house and combined facade - not the same thing!

As we have said, the combination of different wall materials is the main feature of a combined building. In contrast, the combined facade of the house can be used on any residential building.

For example, having built a cottage from insulated sandwich panels, you can easily “mask” it under the stone one. For this you can use ceramic tiles, sandstone, porcelain stoneware or rust plaster. If ordinary masonry is used for masonry walls instead of face brick, then a “combi-facade” will also be appropriate.

The photo shows a house built of brick and timber. Obviously, nondescript brickwork will require additional finishing. It is not necessary to decorate "under the stone." It is enough to fill the blockhouse with guides and your house will be completely “wooden”. Another option is a combination of semi-circular false logs on the first floor and glued laminated timber on the second.

Pros and cons of combining ideas

Having noted the main advantages of the combined buildings: cost-effectiveness, layout flexibility, aesthetics and functionality, let us point out the drawbacks of such buildings.

The main one is the different times of “life” of stone and wood. The rocks it reaches 150 years. The tree will last at best half a century. For a light frame and shield walls this period will be even less. Therefore, the moment will inevitably come when the first stone floor is still quite strong and reliable, and the walls of the second are in need of repair.

Since the combined country houses in Russia are still quite young, there are no negative experiences with different rates of aging of wall materials. Therefore, the reviews of their owners are mostly positive.

To summarize, we advise everyone who made the decision to build a combined cottage, not to forget about the different lifetimes of the first and second floors. To extend the life of the walls, buy well-dried and antiseptic wood, and build the skeleton assembly by experienced professionals, not shabashniki.

For a wooden frame, a properly assembled drainage system is necessary, which prevents moisture from entering the wood. In addition, at the construction stage, constant monitoring of the quality of sealing of all transverse sections of wooden poles and beams is required.

Among the completed construction of different types of housing, a significant place is occupied by combined houses, projects using a combination of building materials with different characteristics, for example, a house made of stone and wood. Why exactly such facilities are popular?

Advantages of combined projects

The correct combination of various building materials used in the construction of buildings, allows you to optimally combine the advantages of each of them, minimizing their disadvantages.

For example, a stone has immunity to any external influences, including fire. But it is too heavy and large, and a structure erected entirely of stone will not withstand any foundation, and in some cases it will require reinforcement. But the use of wood for the construction of the upper part of the building will not only reduce its proportion, but also provide a magnificent appearance.
