The rose is the most luxurious inhabitant of flowerbeds, striking in its beauty and unique aroma. Each gardener seeks to grow at least a few varieties of elegant flower on his site.

It is preferable to plant a rose in the ground in the fall. Observing the timing and characteristics of planting, following the necessary rules for the care of the rooted cutting, the flower will disperse amazing tender buds in the garden by the next warm season.

  Willful "Queen of Flowers"

The rose is the closest relative of wild rose, it represents a thousandth collection of its selection varieties. The plant is very rich in a variety of forms of the bush and buds, the number of petals and colors. For many centuries, the flower occupies a leading position in flowerbeds around the world. Nothing can be a better gift for a celebration than a bunch of fresh cut roses.

To grow a plant on the site correctly, take into account the many features of this culture. As far as the “queen of flowers” is beautiful, she is so fastidious. She loves complete care and favorable growing conditions. She needs a warm climate. But there are varieties that are not afraid of frost and easily take root in central Russia.

Most garden plants are recommended to plant in the fall, a rose is no exception. Wet soil, moderate air temperature - what you need for good rooting young cuttings. During the winter, the root system of the future bush will gain strength, it will strengthen enough and will throw out new healthy shoots next spring.

  Growing roses in autumn

For the rose planted on the site for many years to please the owners of beautiful, flowering bushes, you need to be familiar with the principles, timing of planting and agricultural techniques necessary for this culture.

  Selection of seedlings

Some cultural forms are grown from seed or by grafting. The most reliable planting material - seedlings obtained by grafting varietal cuttings or buds to the root system of wild rose.

Bushes sold with roots hidden in the ground or other organic matter are easy to use: they are transportable and protected from damage. You can buy a rose grown in planting capacity. Her transplanted even during flowering. Saplings with an open root system are sown immediately after purchase.

There are signs that pay attention when choosing planting material with bare roots:

  Suitable landing times

Wet and heated soil - the best condition for planting roses. The choice of the month depends on the climatic features of the region.   It is important to complete the landing work 2–3 weeks before the onset of frost.Towards the south, cuttings are rooted in mid-to-late October, in the northern regions in August-September.

Early planting of roses in the fall has a negative impact on the growth and development of the young bush. Favorable air temperature for rooting seedlings + 10–16 degrees Celsius. When choosing suitable terms for the procedure, they take into account not only external factors, but also the characteristics of the variety and the quality of the planting material.

  Preparation and planting roses in open ground

To make the rose feel comfortable in a new place, it is planted in the south side of the garden. The selected site should be well lit by the rays of the sun and protected from the wind. The flower needs fertile, light, moisture-permeating soil. If the land on the site does not meet the requirements, for 10 days before planting it is enriched with clayey substrate and compost.

Before planting, a young bush is soaked in water for 24 hours. It is rid of foliage, dry, damaged roots and buds that are below the vaccine. The stems are cut so that their height reaches 30 cm. To protect the plant from diseases and pests, experts advise treating the seedling with a 3% solution of ferrous sulfate.

At home, planting roses is carried out as follows:

  1. 1. Dig a hole with a depth and diameter of 40–50 cm. The size is adjusted depending on the size of the root system, which should not be crowded in a new place. The wells are moistened with water, drainage is made of pebbles or rubble and organic fertilizers are added. It is important to take into account the distance between them: for park roses 80–100 cm, for paliant ones 40–60 cm, climbing forms are planted, retreating at least 100 cm from each other.
  2. 2. Seedlings are placed in prepared recesses. The roots are leveled, and the root neck is deepened 5 cm below ground level (climbing roses by 10 cm). The pits are covered with fertile substrates, watered abundantly and compacted soil.
  3. 3. To protect against early frost, seedlings are mulched with peat, sawdust or dry leaves.

The flower is planted in the second way: using a growth stimulator. For this, sodium humate or heteroauxin is dissolved in a bucket of water. This solution is poured into the well and placed there seedling. The plant is buried and no longer irrigated. Otherwise, this method does not differ from the previous one.

Selection of seedlings

Rose seedlings are best purchased in nurseries or specialty stores. When ordering planting material via the Internet, it is impossible to predict what state its root system will be, and this is the most important condition when planting in the fall. If the roses are planted in the coming days, then you can buy copies with an open root system, they are cheaper, in addition, their roots can be carefully inspected. The root system must be proportionately developed, of natural color, without signs of rotting or drying out. Plants should choose those with at least 3 main shoots, they should have a smooth green color and a glossy surface with shiny spikes. If the seedling has a closed root system, then you need to check how tightly the earthen room is adjacent to the walls of the container. In healthy specimens, as a rule, there are many young shoots with delicate, green leaves on the branches.

Choosing a place on the site for growing roses

Many gardeners are wondering how to plant roses in the fall? First you need to choose a suitable place on the plot, the shrub is rather capricious to the conditions of detention, therefore when placing a flower garden it is important to take into account all the requirements of this luxurious plant.

The rose is a heat-loving and light-loving plant, the place for planting is chosen well lit, for example, to plant seedlings along the building on the south side. In the shady garden, under the crown of trees, the bush will not grow, just like in areas blown by cold winds. The plant does not tolerate stagnant moisture in the roots, so on the site where the depth of the groundwater is less than 1 m, it is not recommended to place the rosary.

How to plant roses in the fall and prepare a place for planting? Flowers will grow well on loose and fertile soil, so before planting it is necessary to dig up the area and make a sufficient amount of fertilizer. For the cultivation of roses suitable soil, whose composition is moderate, and the reaction is slightly acidic (pH - 6.5 or 7). To increase soil fertility, 4–5 weeks before planting, compost, humus, and decomposed manure are introduced. Additionally, you can make and mineral fertilizers, selecting the dosage according to the instructions and depending on the natural composition of the soil on the site.

Planting technology of roses in the fall

Thinking about how to plant roses in the fall, first of all you need to decide on the date of work. It depends on how well the seedlings take root on the eve of the winter cold. In a temperate climate, the landing procedure is recommended to start from September 15 to October 15. In the southern regions 3-4 weeks later. Too early planting will entail an active growth of young shoots, which will significantly reduce the winter resistance of the plant. If with planting on a site to tighten, then the sapling will not have time to take root and will perish from frosts. To carry out planting should choose a sunny, lovely day. If there are prolonged rains, then it is better to postpone the landing.

If the weather has deteriorated sharply, and it is no longer possible to plant roses in open ground, seedlings with an open root system can be buried in a greenhouse, and the specimens in shipping containers can be stored in a cellar or a warmed loggia where the air temperature does not exceed 0 ° C.

Seedling preparation

How to plant roses in the fall, where to start? Copies with an open root system are placed in a bucket of water for 24 hours before planting. Plants in containers do not require special preparation. Further, all the leaves are removed from the seedlings and carefully cut off the broken or dried shoots with a sharp sheath. It is recommended to prune the rose, shortening the branches to 30 cm, and the root system to 25 cm. If some of the roots are rotten, then they should be cut to live wood (it has a white core). As a preventive measure against various diseases, seedlings are sprayed with a solution of ferrous sulfate (3%). The roots are recommended to be dipped in a “mash” - a solution of clay and mullein in a 2: 1 ratio.

Landing pit

If one bush is planted, then they will dig a planting hole; in group planting along a fence or a building, it will be wise to make a trench. The diameter of the pit should be about 40–45 cm; when autumn planting, the seedling should be planted deeper - about 60–70 cm. The width and depth of the trench will be similar, the distance between the bushes should be determined depending on the plant variety. So, for growing park roses, it is necessary to keep a distance of 100 cm, remontant - 70 cm, hybrid tea - 60 cm, small color polyanthus - 40 cm.

Planting rose seedlings in the ground

How to plant roses in the fall in open ground? If the soil on the site is heavy enough, then it is advisable to place a drainage from a pebble or broken brick at the bottom of a pit or trench (2 cm layer is enough). The gardener's task is to gently straighten the roots of the seedling in the planting pit, some for the convenience of the middle make a small mound and place the plant on it. The root collar is deepened into the soil by 5 cm (for standard roses - by 10 cm). After planting, the earth mixture is distributed around the seedling and compacted well; there should be no air cavities in the soil. Then, each bush poured abundantly with water, spending about 2 buckets. Next, you should wait until the water is absorbed and only after that mumble the near-barrel circle. Soil mulching is a mandatory procedure when planting roses in the fall. First, wet the earth sprinkled with a thin layer of dry earth, and then spud peat to a height of about 18-20 cm. Hay or compost can be used as mulch.

Seedling shelter for the winter

Knowing how to plant roses in the fall, it remains to take care that they have a good winter. In regions where winters are expected to be frosty, seedlings need to be provided with reliable shelter. To do this, around the plant make a small steady frame of metal arcs, or wooden pegs stuck into the ground. From above, such a construction can be covered with spruce leaves or a “cap” of rags, nonwoven material (lutrasil, agrofibre) can be put on. "Cap" secure with wire or twine. For seedlings, it is possible to prepare a shelter from a cut-off plastic bottle, leaving a gap between the top of the plants and the bottom of about 10 cm. Above this shelter is covered with dry foliage or bulbous husk. As soon as the snow falls, you can additionally throw a snowdrift, it will protect the landing from freezing. However, it is worth remembering that with the onset of the first warm days, the shelter must be removed, otherwise the roses will vanish and die.

Video how to plant roses

Practically on each garden plot one can find several roses. One has two or three copies, the other has a couple of dozen, but a rose is always a win-win to decorate a garden. Any gardener's dream is a rose garden. But not everyone has the ability and ability to grow this whimsical and luxurious queen. But still worth a try. It is only necessary to follow a few simple tips, and success will be guaranteed!

The time of planting roses has no clear dates. The planting of roses can be made both in spring and autumn, depending on the peculiarities of the weather inherent in a particular region.

Planting roses in autumn begins in September and October. When roses are planted in the fall, the main thing is not to hurry with the planting. If the plant quickly takes root and the young shoots start to grow, then it will quickly weaken and will not tolerate cold. If planting is delayed, then the plant risks not to take root before winter. In the spring, this problem disappears, so the planting of roses during this period is the most optimal. Roses are planted in spring when the air temperature warms up to +10 ° C, which usually happens in April.

Preparation of seedlings and soil

Pre rose saplings soaked in water for a day. Starting landing, choose a sunny area, which is sufficiently protected from drafts. Next, dig a hole 50x50x50 cm in size and fill it with water.

It may seem that the fossa is too large, but it is not. Gardeners often make the mistake of digging a hole as large as the root of a plant. And then, the rose after planting will feel cramped in space, the roots will have nowhere to grow.

And if you follow these recommendations, the roots will begin to form a mass of thin roots that absorb moisture, which will contribute to the development of a powerful bush. Having worked once on preparing a place for her beloved, she will thank her a lot for her abundant flowering in the future. So, after the water has been absorbed, 2-3 shovels of humus are put in the hole and mixed with the ground. It is also recommended to add a handful of wood ash.

Now you need to carefully examine the seedlings. All damaged areas of the plant are cut. The roots of the bush are shortened, leaving a length of no more than 30 cm. 3-4 leaves are left on the bush of the most powerful stem, the rest are cut. The remaining shoots are cut so that there are 3 formed buds on the stem. Such action contributes to the development of a powerful, healthy shrub.

Planting Rose Saplings

The seedling is lowered into the hole prepared in advance and the roots are laid. Slowly they fill the hole with earth, supporting the sapling and pulling it up slightly.

Then the ground around the seedling tamped. Attention should be paid to the place of budding, which is buried in the soil at 3-5 centimeters depth. If the place of vaccination is unnecessarily deepened, then the plant will be poorly taken root and the seedling will have to be lifted. And on the contrary, if the stock does not fall asleep with the ground, then wild growth will start up. Sprouts cut all at the base.

The soil around the seedling poured a bucket of water. This must be done, otherwise after the first heavy rain the bush can be deeply buried in the soil.

Hilling rose

After planting the rose bush, proceed to his hilling.

This action stimulates the rooting of the seedling, and during autumn planting, to a large extent, protects it from frost. The plant remains okuchin until the spring.

In the spring, there is also no need to rush to open the plant, but it should be done in rainy or overcast weather, or in the evening. If the plant is planted in the spring and spud, then after the young shoots grow back, it is necessary to unzip it so that the earth warms up well enough.

Step-by-step instructions for planting roses:

  • seedling soaked in water for 24 hours;
  • dig a hole 50x50x50;
  • add compost or humus;
  • mix the humus with the ground;
  • add wood ash;
  • pruned roots and excess stems;
  • seedling hold and covered with earth;
  • tamp the ground around the bush;
  • pruned stems;
  • the soil around the seedling is poured with water;
  • spud.

Roses are not only one of the most beautiful flowers, but also plants that are very demanding to the conditions of planting and care. We will tell you how to plant roses in spring and autumn so that the bushes will take root well and bloom.

Following the tips below, you will learn how to properly prepare the site for planting and will be able to choose the best seedlings for cultivation.

  When and how to plant a rose in the ground in spring

For the bush to bloom beautifully for many years, you need to choose the right sprout and plant it. In the future, the plants also require careful care, which includes loosening, watering, fertilizing and loosening for the winter.

It is not enough just to know how to properly plant a spring in the ground, it is also important to choose the most suitable site. The place should be protected from drafts, and the soil should be moderately wet, but without stagnant water.

When disembarking in spring, it is better to start making out a flower bed not earlier than mid-April. These crops are very sensitive to temperature extremes, therefore the soil and air must be sufficiently heated.

  The best time to plant roses in spring

Spring is considered the best time for planting a crop (Figure 1). For several warm months, the plants have time to get stronger and fully acclimatize before winter. However, this does not mean that transfer to the ground can be carried out at any time.

   Figure 1. Spring landing technology

If in the spring it was not possible to transfer the flowers to the flowerbed, it is better to save the seedlings and transplant them in the autumn. High summer temperatures and low soil moisture can adversely affect the growth of bushes.

  At what air temperature can you plant roses in spring

To know how to plant a culture in the spring, you first need to decide on the temperature of the air and the soil.

The best time is mid-April and the end of May. At this time, the soil completely thawed out after the winter, and the air temperature stabilized at around 10 degrees. Such conditions are great for flowers.

So that the young shoots do not damage the frost, the bushes for the first time can be sheltered or mulched before the onset of consistently warm summer weather. Shelter will help not only protect plants from temperature extremes, but also help preserve moisture in the soil and prevent weed growth.

  When is it best to plant roses in the autumn

If the cultures could not be transplanted into the open ground in spring, the procedure can also be carried out in the fall (Figure 2). September and early October are well suited for these colors in temperature and humidity conditions.

Note:  Autumn planting, carried out according to all the rules, will allow the bushes to take root before the onset of frost. Thus in the spring you will receive a fully accustomed plant, ready to bloom.

   Figure 2. Proper planting culture in the fall

Planting in the fall has several advantages. First, during the summer months, the soil has enough time to warm up, and precipitation falls significantly more than in spring. Secondly, the humidity in the autumn months is great for rooting, so in some cases they take root much faster than the bushes transplanted in the spring.

However, it should be borne in mind that the procedure should be carried out in strict accordance with the technology so that the plants receive enough moisture and nutrients for acclimatization.

You will learn more about autumn planting from the video.

  Choosing a place to plant roses in spring

Not only the time when plants are beginning to be planted in open ground is important, but also the place where the flowerbed will be located.

To choose the right plot, follow these guidelines.:

  • The place should be closed from drafts, with well-drained soil;
  • Do not plant plants in the lowlands with close groundwater storage. This will lead to the accumulation of moisture near the roots and the rotting of the lower part of the stem;
  • It is advisable to choose a place with a slight shade so that the leaves and petals are not damaged by the noonday sun.

In addition, the site should be spacious enough so that the bushes can be located at some distance from each other. This will not only give the plants the opportunity to grow, but also greatly facilitate care.

  How to choose and prepare the soil

The site should be located on a small elevation, as these flowers do not like overmoistened soil and stagnation of groundwater. In addition, the place must be protected from drafts and cold wind.

Note:  To prevent the plants from being damaged by cold air, it is better to plant them near ornamental shrubs or buildings.

The soil is carefully dug and fertilized with rotted manure (Figure 3). Fresh organics can not be used categorically, as it causes rotting of the roots and death of seedlings. It is also recommended to add a glass of wood ash to the ground, and if the soil is acidic, a little lime.

   Figure 3. Site preparation for planting

In poor areas, the prepared well is filled with a special nutrient substrate of loam, compost, rotted manure and mineral fertilizers.

  Preparation of the hole

The depth of the hole depends on the length and width of the roots, as well as the fertility of the soil. For example, on fertile soils, a hole is dug 5-10 cm deeper than the length of the roots. In width, it should be about half a meter. In areas with clay soils, the well is deepened to 70 cm (Figure 4).

   Figure 4. Proper preparation of culture wells

It is important that in areas with fertile soil, the top layer of soil can be used to prepare the substrate, which is subsequently filled with the hole. If the land is depleted, the soil mixture is better to buy in the store.

Fertilizers when planting in spring also play an important role. In the well, surely bring rotten (not fresh) manure, ashes and mineral fertilizers. This will help the plants to take root in the soil faster.

  How to choose and prepare seedlings

When choosing a seedling, it is imperative to inspect its root system. Therefore, it is recommended to buy planting material in specialized nurseries or stores, and not on the Internet. Only in this way can you evaluate the quality of the roots and the viability of the plant as a whole.

The roots of a good sprout can be recognized by such signs.:

  • The root system is branched and well developed;
  • There are several woody shoots or leaves of a smooth green color (no spots);
  • The roots should be bright on the cut;
  • On the roots there should be no signs of lack of moisture or mechanical damage.

When buying, it is also advisable to touch the shoots. They should be tight, smooth and shiny. This indicates that the plant is completely healthy and will transfer the transplant normally.

  Disinfection of seedlings after purchase

After purchase, all sprouts should be sanitized. To do this, it is enough to immerse the roots in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for several hours (Figure 5). It is necessary to destroy potential pathogens or larvae of pests that may be on the roots.

   Figure 5. Processing seedlings before planting

In addition, disinfection is necessary because you do not know in which soil the plant was grown. Without treatment, the root system may not settle down in a new place, and the flower will die.

  What to do if the seedlings are frozen

It also happens that when buying, we do not notice the frozen parts of the roots or shoots. You should not make a common mistake and throw away the plant. It is quite possible to reanimate and put in the ground. Even frozen cultures can take root, if properly prepared.

First of all, it is necessary to conduct an image of all frozen roots and shoots. The cut is made at the level of healthy wood or part of the root. After that, it is advisable to place the plant in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for several hours.

Planting frozen specimens carried out especially carefully. Choose a place that is as protected from the cold as possible, and fill the well with a high-quality nutrient substrate. It is also recommended to fertilize the soil with mineral dressings.

  If the seedlings have dried roots

Often there are saplings that dry up before planting in open ground. You can save the plant, and it will get acclimatized on the flowerbed.

In order to revive dried saplings, they need to be placed in a special nutrient solution for 12 hours. To do this, in 10 liters of water dissolve in a tablespoon of superphosphate and urea and add a few drops of growth stimulant. After that, you can carry out landing. The roots are wrapped in moist clay mixed with the same nutrient solution and placed in a previously prepared well.

  How to cut seedlings when planting

Before planting, you need to carefully examine all the seedlings, their shoots and roots. All dried up or damaged parts of the plant must be removed (Figure 6).

Note:  Do not be afraid to cut the roots or stems. Damaged roots or shoots will prevent the bush from taking root.

Even healthy roots are shortened so that their length is more than 35 cm. This procedure is also carried out on seedlings with cut roots, only in this case it is enough to simply update the cut.

   Figure 6. Pruning seedlings before planting

Be sure to shorten and shoots. It is recommended to leave only 2-3 strongest buds. This will help the plant to take root faster, without wasting energy on the development and nutrition of the kidneys. The only exceptions are ground cover varieties that do not prune, but only update root sections.

If there is no possibility to transplant plants immediately, they can be stored in a basement or other room with a temperature not higher than +7 degrees. Roots are wrapped in a damp cloth moistened with water with a few drops of growth stimulant.

  Planting a seedling in the hole

Proper planting in the wells is carried out in strict accordance with the technology, since these plants are very sensitive to the nutritional value of the soil and air temperature.

To plant a flower, follow these instructions.  (Figure 7):

  • Landing is carried out at a temperature of from 0 to +7 degrees. A lower rate will slow down the process of adaptation, and if it is too hot outside, seedlings can get burned.
  • You should dig and fertilize the hole in advance. The standard pit size is 45-50 cm deep and 50 cm wide, but on clay soils the hole is made deeper.
  • At the bottom of the hole stack nutrient substrate consisting of fertile soil, mineral fertilizers and rotted manure.
  • The roots of seedlings are pre-soaked in water for several hours.
  • The vaccination should be several centimeters deep in the soil. The earth around the bush is tamped down so that the roots touch the soil more closely.

   Figure 7. The procedure for planting seedlings in open ground

After that, the ground needs to be watered, and the shoots are better covered with a mound of soil. After 1-2 weeks, the rose will take root, and the shelter can be removed.

  At what distance to plant roses from each other

The distance between the bushes depends on the variety. For parks, the minimum distance between seedlings should be at least 75 cm, but if possible, they are placed a meter apart. This is necessary because adult plants form a spreading crown, and their roots need enough space for development.

Polyanthus, hybrid tea and floribunda roses are planted at a distance of 30-60 cm. For climbing grades, the gap must be at least one meter. In addition, care must be taken of the support on which the stems will be fixed.

  Hilling seedling after planting

After planting, seedlings require some care, which will speed up the process of acclimatization. First of all, the plants need to be watered and spud. For this, the stems are sprinkled with loose earth (Figure 8). This will give the plants the opportunity to settle down faster in a new place.

   Figure 8. Hilling of roses after planting in the ground

As a rule, an earthen mound can be removed within 2 weeks after disembarkation. During this time, the rose has time to take root and grow stronger. In the future, the land around the bushes are regularly loosened and watered (in the absence of natural precipitation). It is also necessary to periodically make feeding.

More useful information about the features of planting roses tells the author of the video.

There are few gardeners who are indifferent to roses. I want to have all their varieties on my site: climbing, tea, hybrid, standard, miniature, polyanthus, etc. But before the garden turns into a blooming paradise, you need to plant the required number of copies in such a way that they all take root and vegetate normally the following year. Since in the autumn months planting material is present in all flower shops, there is a desire to buy several copies. But the autumn planting of roses in open ground by an inexperienced gardener raises a number of questions that must be dealt with before starting to plant.

Benefits of Autumn Planting

When choosing between autumn and spring planting, many people prefer the spring months, because in the long term there are no frosts and cold snaps. But in the autumn disembarkation, there are a sufficient number of advantages that make it necessary to reconsider views on the landing dates:

  • Humidity at this time is much higher than in the spring. This factor is very important for successful rooting and adaptation in a new place, therefore for cuttings they often use greenhouses that increase the humidity of the air in the internal space. During September-November, this parameter ranges from 75-85%, while in April-May it rarely reaches 65%.
  • Rainfall is much higher than at other times of the year, and rainwater has a much better effect on the rose at the time of rooting than tap water, which has to be used for irrigation in the warm season.
  • Over the summer, the soil warmed to a sufficient depth and maintains a sufficient temperature for a long time, including after the onset of cold weather. In the spring, even at a high ambient temperature, the soil can be cold, which is bad for the adaptation of the plant.
  • In September, a lot of autumn planting material appears on the shelves with flowers on the bushes, so you can be sure that you are buying exactly the declared variety, that is, there is no risk of acquiring another variety or a wild bush under the guise of a cultural one.
  • Spring planting material goes on sale after winter prikopa, so its potential directly depends on how it was stored. Autumn specimens are much easier to tolerate transplantation, because in summer they vegetulized in the open field and stocked up the necessary substances that will help relive stress.
  • Already next year, the overwintered bushes used to start growing and delight with full-bloom, while spring ones will not show the full force of flowering in the first year.

There are fears that before the real autumn frosts the bush does not have time to settle down in a new place, but if everything is carried out in accordance with the rules, then a normal wintering will be provided.

Optimal timing

Choosing the right time is the key point, because success depends on it 70%. Most often there are recommendations that the autumn planting should be carried out from the end of September to the second decade of October. In fact, this statement is true only for the middle band, since the onset of cold and frost in each zone occurs at different times. Moreover, it differs even for the same region in different years.

It is much more expedient to focus on the weather, which is observed on the street. In order for the seedlings to settle down before winter, it must have time to grow new suction roots, but not begin with the formation of new shoots and leaves because of the long heat.

The ideal conditions for this are the soil temperature of 12-17 ° C at a level of 20-30 cm. The rooting process lasts about 3-4 weeks depending on the variety, and the rest period begins after the first night frosts happen to -3 ° C.

If the weather is extremely unstable and there is no certainty that before the current cooling, the adaptation process at the new place will have time to complete, you can speed it up with one trick: before planting, the seedling is kept in solution of water and any rooting or growth stimulator (“Heteroauxin”, “Gumate "," Kornevin ", etc.).

Selection of seedlings

When choosing a good seedlings should pay attention not only on their condition. Be sure to ask about the frost resistance of the variety and the zone in which the plant will feel normal.

With open root system

Such saplings most often appear on sale in the spring and in the fall. They look like seedlings with a root system wrapped in a small packet, sometimes they use burlap or packing film instead of a packet.

When choosing a healthy specimen with sufficient growth potential, attention is paid to the following factors:

  • the presence of three or more main shoots, in extreme cases - two, but strong and fairly thick;
  • leaves and stems should not be dark or whitish and other signs of fungal lesions;
  • developed root system of normal volume;
  • root neck with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm

To ensure the health of the sapling, you need to gently scrape the spine with a fingernail. This is done so as not to injure the tender place. If the root is rotten, soft from rot or crumbles into dust, such an instance is not suitable.

Roses with bare rhizome need to buy before planting, as storage in the wrong conditions quickly leads to damage to the planting material. Inside the package can be peat, sawdust or brown paper for transportation. These materials provide normal transportation and prevent damage to the lower part of the bush.

With closed root system

So-called container seedlings are sold all year round. Most often containers are containers of more than 5 liters in volume. An earthen clod inside the tank should not be loose: this means that the plant is planted shortly before the sale. The land should easily move away in a continuous layer from the walls of the container.

Roses with a closed root system during transplantation provide several advantages:

  • they can be planted not only in the fall, but also at any other time of the year;
  • they can be planted not immediately after purchase, but after a long time;
  • during transshipment, even thin antennae of roots are not damaged, therefore the plant practically does not remain in stress.

Container seedlings can be transported not only in the soil, but also in moss or any other organic substrate, fastened with jute mesh or thick cardboard. In this form, they are not only transported over any distances, but can remain for a long time without the risk of injury and drying of the root shoots.

Before planting, this organic packaging should not be removed: it will eventually dissolve in the soil without interfering with the bush to grow.

Storage and preparation

If before autumn planting seedlings have some time to store, you need to moisten the rhizome daily so that it does not dry out. It is advisable to store to choose a cool place, and if weather conditions allow, you can leave the plant on the street, making sure that it does not fall into the direct rays of the sun.

Open root system before planting should be shortened, leaving 30-35 cm. It is worth removing and all dead and suspicious places where there may be rot or fungus. Next should be a slight pruning of vegetative shoots.

Shrubs prior to planting for two hours soaked in water, which should not be too warm or too cold. Warm can provoke a plant to rapid growth, and cold - to plunge the root system into a state of shock. If the seedlings were over dried, the aging time in water is increased to 12 hours. Dried specimens that were stored incorrectly, are immersed in water completely.

Landing rules

The rules of the autumn planting are somewhat different from the spring, but not in everything. You need to study them in advance.

It is necessary to choose the day, well, if it will be overcast or even with a little rain. The air temperature required for successful replanting is from 0 to 7 ° C.

Site selection

The right place in the garden or in the country will be an open area with good access to sunlight, which is necessary for full-length long flowering. It is important that the place was closed from drafts, because in the first year after planting the roses very poorly tolerate cold air flows that freeze the root system.

Groundwater close to the surface of the earth can cause diseases, so the optimum level of groundwater is about 1 m. When they are higher, but it is impossible to change the site, it is necessary to ensure good drainage at the bottom of the planting pit. Ideally, if there are no large plants, walls and fences near the bush.

The soil

Rose refers to crops that grow well on fertile soils with high soil permeability. This allows you to maintain optimal moisture in the earth’s thickness and not to interfere with normal air exchange. The thickness of the fertile layer for successful vegetation is 40-50 cm. In its absence, the soil needs special training, which takes place 2-3 weeks before planting.

To do this, you need the following components:

  • loamy ground;
  • multi-year compost;
  • three-year rotted manure or bird droppings;
  • dry mineral fertilizers.

Optionally, you can add wood ash. All ingredients are well mixed and brought to planting beds instead of poor soil.

Planting scheme

In the case when several specimens are planted at once, they maintain at least 1 m free space between them. This is necessary for the normal development of the roots. A smaller indent is made only for curb roses, between which between 40 and 50 cm recede.

Landing pits

Pit preparation consists of digging up the soil and proper wetting.

The standard size for a hybrid tea variety is 50x50 cm, and a depth of at least 65 cm. In the presence of heavy loamy soil at the site, the depth is increased to 70 cm. For curb roses - 30x30 cm and depth - 40 cm.

After digging into each pit you need to fill a minimum of 10 liters of water, which must be completely absorbed.

How to land

A small mound of earth is poured at the bottom of the landing pit, over which the roots of a rose are spread. It is necessary that they were spread in all directions, which guarantees a normal growth of vegetative shoots from the center of the bush. After that, the seedling is sprinkled with soil and gently compacted with her hand or foot. At the base should get a mound up to 20 cm.

After that, the bushes are gradually watered with cool water. Under each seedling need to pour in two buckets. After that, the ground will settle down heavily. If needed, the earth is powdered again.

During autumn planting, the budding site (root neck) should go 5-6 cm under the ground, this will save the young plant in winter from freezing. For climbing roses, the deepening should be even larger - 10-12 cm, because they actively form lateral root shoots.

When the water is completely absorbed, you need to make watering holes.

Departure after landing

In order to pass the wintering without any trouble, and in the spring the rose bush successfully departed and presented the early flowering, you can install a wooden or metal frame on which the covering material is placed. It can be lapnik or spunbond.

If the frame is not built, after the appearance of the first snow, a heap is thrown on the bush, inside which the plant will be securely covered.

If, after planting, the weather is warm enough, after two weeks the roses can be fed with an autumn complex with a high potassium content. This will allow the plant to more easily and quickly move to a state of rest.

If the landing did not take place

It so happens that after purchasing a sapling, the weather does not allow it to be planted in open ground. There may be other reasons. This does not mean that the plant should die. It can be saved until spring.

The bush can be prikopat in the recess of about 40 cm at an angle of 45 °, the greenhouse is perfect for this. When wintering in the open ground, the bush is sprinkled with peat, onion peel, or coniferous spruce branches.

You can drop the rose seedlings into the basement, where the temperature during the cold season lasts around 0 ° C.
