Hello!

Today I want to tell you in detail how to grow a lemon from a stone at home. And not just a lemon, but a real tree with fragrant and healthy fruits. Last year I wrote about the cultivation of mandarin from the stone and in the comments was a request to tell about the lemon. There are some points that need to be considered in order to drink tea with your lemons in a few years.

Lemon is an evergreen shrub with glossy, fleshy leaves. On them and the branches of the bush are many pores that emit essential oils and volatile production - this is a familiar wonderful lemon scent.

Lemon grows at home a small tree, but it can be up to three meters. On the branches it has small spines, the leaves are dark green. Lemon has beautiful small flowers - pink-red or purple on top and white inside.

It’s just that you don’t surprise anyone with a lemon tree, but a tree with fruits is not so common. But this is quite a feasible task for everyone.

Landing

Let's start from the beginning. You need to choose the right seeds for planting and prepare the ground. Choose a beautiful, smooth, ripe lemon fruit. From it we choose the best - large seeds. And we plant in a wet state - it is not necessary to dry, otherwise they will grow for a long time or will not germinate at all.

Before planting, you can treat the seeds with any biostimulant for fast germination and the formation of good roots in the future. To do this, prepare the solution according to the instructions for the preparation - and soak the seeds for the night.

It is necessary to prepare tanks for sowing and good soil. You can buy pots for seedlings in the store or use for this a glass of yogurt or sour cream, cut plastic bottles. At the bottom you need to make holes and put drainage. These can be shards from pots, nutshell, pebbles, a layer of vermiculite up to 1.5 cm.

Plant a lot of lemon seeds at once - a couple of dozen at once. Firstly, not everyone will ascend, secondly, you will have the opportunity to choose the best ones for further cultivation and finally, not everyone can tolerate the vaccine well.

Maybe it will seem to someone that the information about the holes in the cups, about the need for drainage is known to everyone and there is no need to write about it in such detail. But I remember myself as a novice gardener and not always I knew all the subtleties of planting and care. And the plants died.

Now you need to prepare a loose, fertile soil. No problem, you can plant lemons in the purchased ground for citrus or cook yourself. We mix humus, leaf soil in equal amounts and add peat and sand for ease. We moisten the earth and lay the bones in pots. Seeds are planted to a depth of about 2 cm.

The temperature for the germination of the lemon seed should not be less than 18 ° C. To create the best lemon conditions for germination and development, cover them with cut plastic bottles. Or just cover the seed cups with a film and put in a warm place. This will create the conditions for greenhouses for lemons.

  Lemons under plastic bottles - mini greenhouse

No need to pour the seeds after sowing - they may suffocate and moldy. It is better not to water at all, but simply to spray the earth from the spray gun. Water only when the ground begins to crack. And after the emergence of lemon shoots, it is also better to observe a mode of small watering so that the roots do not rot.

Growing lemon from the stone at home

Sprouts appear in the apartment in different ways. It can take from two weeks to a month. Before the appearance of 4 leaves, we keep young saplings in mini-greenhouses. Gradually accustom seedlings to room air - often sprayed. Then we move the pot to a bright place, but without direct sunlight, otherwise the young sprout will die.

Do not forget about watering, in the sense that do not get carried away

Water the seedlings only after the land has dried.

  The first shoots and small saplings of lemon

Useful tips:

  1. Use water at room temperature. Good for watering rain and melt water - just not cold.
  2. Little lemon in the first months is not fed. In spring and summer you need to water bio-fertilizer. But always remember that it is better to underfeed than to feed.
  3. Do not forget that the lemon tree is a capricious and demanding plant when grown indoors. It likes constant temperature or humidity. Abrupt changes in climate and care will immediately reflect the deterioration of the well-being of lemon.
  4. Hot, dry climate, exposure to direct sunlight, drafts and air cooling, wind — these factors can lead to the loss of all leaves and the death of a plant.
  5. By the fall, watering is completely reduced, only after the earth dries up, the land clod is moistened. Be sure to ensure that the water does not stagnate, and the excess flowed freely. Feed in the fall once a month.
  6. Already in the first year of growth, the seedlings begin to form its crown. Remove all deformed, growing inward, weak twigs.

Growing lemon at home in a pot

When the seedlings will be 2-3 true leaves, choose the strongest, and transplanted into pots. For lemon, it is better to grow only in clay pots. The diameter and depth increase as the tree grows. A few hours before transplanting the pot should be soaked in water. At the bottom, be sure to put a layer of drainage. You can cover the hole with a shard, putting its convex side up. From above we fill small shards, pebbles, coarse sand, coal, expanded clay.

Pour the soil is the same as prepared when planting lemon seeds. After transplanting, we again lay the seedlings in a can or half bottle. We remove it only after full engraftment. At the same time begin to grow new leaves.

How to choose the best seedlings for transplanting. Here are the main things to pay attention to:

  • We look at the density of the crown. See the distance between the buds on the seedling - take with the smallest.
  • The presence of needles. Less is better.
  • Leaf quality. They are many, firmly hold, do not fall from the touch.
  • All weak, thin shoots with bad leaves immediately reject.

Lemon tree - rules of care and problems of growing

At home, growing lemons requires special care. Subject to all rules, you can get flowering and fruiting plants.

  • For lemon, you need an additional dosachivanie - especially in early spring and autumn.
  • In the room you need to create a humid climate. To do this, often spray the plant. Arrange a shower for him, wash the leaves - lemons are tropical inhabitants and love high humidity.
  • For a young lemon, frequent transplants are important. We are preparing the land as for the first landing. Transplanted plants necessarily with a lump of earth. Take a new pot more by 5-7 cm. Young - once a year, an adult plant can be transplanted once every 2-3 years. The best time in the summer is in June, and in the winter we change it in February.
  • In the period from February to September, the lemon grows more actively - therefore, it is necessary to feed the plants with bio-fertilizers, alternating with mineral ones. Feed only liquid fertilizers. Do not forget about the rule: less is better than more.
  • Correctly form plants. To tree was lush and actively growing lateral shoots - pinch the top. Better to do it in the first year of growth.
  • To properly form the crown, rotate the pot a quarter of a week. In the future, a well-formed stem will affect the quality of the fruit.
  • If the lemon began to bloom at home in the first year, then you need to cut off all the flowers - do not regret. Lemon spend all its strength on flowers and then wither away. Lemon can be allowed to bloom when the plant has at least 15 leaves per flower!

Will fruit be grown from bone

Full-grown fruit plants grow from the seed, but they begin to bear fruit late. Saplings grown from seeds are more adaptable to home conditions. They are more hardy than cuttings.

In order for a lemon to begin to produce early, the first fruits can be grafted onto other citrus fruits. For example:, grapefruit. The optimal time for this operation is the beginning of summer or spring.

Another important factor is the formation of the crown. As I already wrote, in the first year they pinch the top of the head - more precisely, when the seedling grows to 20 cm. Then second-order branches begin to grow, they are pinned when they grow 18 cm. Then the process is repeated until 4 branches appear - the first flowers and fruits appear .

  Fruiting lemon at home

And yet, before flowering lemon need to rest. For this winter, put it in a cool place for several months. And in the spring put in a warm, bright place.

Types of room lemon

The best is the vaccination rotape. I propose to see the video, how to carry out this operation.

Pests and diseases of indoor lemon

The most common pests of lemons at home are scale insects, aphids, spider mites, and insects. All of them suck the sap from the plants, leading to the curvature of the shoots, drying of the leaves.

With all the pests there are general rules of the fight to save the lemon:

The main diseases of all citrus fruits at home are blackgrass and gommoz. From the fungus, the leaves are covered with gray bloom, in which they have broken food. And when homoze appears gum on the ground damage to the bark - branches and leaves gradually shrink.

Disease action:

  1. We clean the bark or the place of the disease - we process the vitriol (copper).
  2. Smear the drug RanNet (or garden pitch).
  3. Wipe the leaves with a fungus with a wet cloth.
  4. Feed fertilizer to maintain the strength of the plant to combat the disease.

How and in what quantities to use drugs for the treatment of plants or pest control can always be read on the packaging of each drug. In any specialty store you will find them in large quantities.

Growing lemon in a greenhouse

As mentioned earlier, the lemon tree loves:

  • Strong but diffused light
  • Good root breathing
  • Constant positive temperature all year round.

All these conditions can be best observed in the following conditions: greenhouses, loggias or glazed balconies, in a greenhouse or conservatory.

Growing lemons and other citrus fruits in a greenhouse has its own characteristics. You can plant lemons directly in the ground or put in pots. For cultivation in the ground greenhouse must be heated.

Let's take a closer look at the requirements for the greenhouse in which the lemon will grow:

  1. A prerequisite is that even in severe frosts, the temperature should not fall below + 6 ° C, and better than + 10 ° C.
  2. It takes a lot of ambient light. In the autumn-winter period, additional lighting should be used, and in spring and summer, on the contrary, should be shaded from direct sunlight.
  3. Remember that lemons do not tolerate stagnation of air, with high humidity - you need to ventilate the greenhouse. But do not create drafts!

In the conditions of the apartment the most suitable place for planting and growing lemon is a glazed and insulated balcony or loggia.

The rest of the cultivation and care of plants is completely the same as described in the article.

I will repeat the main points that are important for getting full seedlings:

  • Choosing beautiful fruits
  • We sow freshly picked wet seeds - do not dry!
  • Carefully water as the soil dries.
  • We cover pots with film or bottles - we create a mini-greenhouse.
  • When fertilizing, we remember the rule: it is better to underfeed than to overfeed.
  • In time we form and transplant young lemons

Plant and grow lemon with pleasure!

On this I finish. How to grow a lemon from the stone is now no secret to you. If you have any questions or comments - write in the comments.

Other interesting articles.

A subtropical tree called lemon will surely take its place in a home green corner. Everyone can grow it, provided that the shrub will be provided with a favorable microclimate. Learn how to plant a lemon at home, and once it reaches a truly large size. In addition, fruits are actively lemons. When you follow basic care guidelines, your tree will bear fruit throughout the year.

Planting lemon is carried out by two common methods: cuttings or seeds. Each of the methods has its own advantages and disadvantages, but is equally widely used by domestic growers. To plant lemon at home intelligently, it is worth considering both technologies. Thus, you can choose for yourself the most optimal method.

Bone stone

How to plant a lemon tree with seeds is often the case for flower growers who first came across a similar need. First of all, you need to select high-quality seed. Take for planting only large seeds. The direct planting of grains in the ground is carried out in stages:

  • pour a substrate in a flower pot that is specifically designed for planting citrus plants;
  • in the ground, sow lemon kernels;
  • at the end of the procedure, thoroughly moisten the soil, but avoid excessive accumulation of water in the ground. Otherwise, the seeds will begin to rot, and the seedlings will not appear;
  • it is recommended to sow several grains of homemade lemon in one pot. When they finally rise, you can leave the strongest in the ground. Another option is that you can simply plant all the sprouts you like in different containers;
  • when you decide to transplant lemon shoots at home, be sure not to damage the root system, which is already quite frail. That is why it is better not to touch the earthen room, enveloping the rhizome of the plant.

This method of planting is not bad and is often used by domestic growers. However, not all so simple. There is an opinion that a lemon grown from an ordinary stone does not bear fruit on its own. This is possible, but the situation is reparable. To do this, it is recommended to plant a sprung and matured plant from another citrus tree (grapefruit or orange), which has been growing in your home flower garden for years.

A handle

Such a tree at home is often propagated. To do this, you will need to cut, leaving two buds at the edges. It is desirable that each future sprout has 2-3 leaves and the same number of buds. When the branch is cut, dip it for a short time in a growth stimulator, and then put it in water for several days. Planting occurs, as a rule, at a time when the cutting has not yet released the roots. That is why it is very important to be able to competently care for the plant. Carefully spray the newly planted sprouts, because in the absence of roots, the future of the tree is still unable to get moisture from the soil.

Landing time

How to plant a lemon? The result is influenced not only by the method of landing or the quality of the soil, but also the period most optimal for such a procedure. Most lemon trees are planted in the ground in late winter or early spring. What is favorable this time of year, so this phase of the awakening of the tree itself and the revitalization of life. The plant rooted in this period will quickly take root.

What ground is needed

In order for planting and caring for a houseplant to be effective, special attention should be paid to the choice or preparation of a high-quality substrate.

It must meet two key requirements: to be loose and include various nutrients. In addition to the land in the flower pot is recommended to put a layer of drainage. The very same soil mixture is considered optimal for growing indoor lemon, if it includes light loamy earth, leaf, as well as sand and humus. Of course, some gardeners prefer to dig up the usual land somewhere in the garden. However, if you want to grow a full-fledged lemon tree, this land will be too scarce for him.

Capacity Selection

Planting a lemon tree is necessary in a properly selected container. You should not immediately purchase a volumetric flowerpot: in an excessively large space, the root system of a plant can rot. As for the material, it can be plastic, and glass, and wood. However, it is preferable to buy all the same clay tank, in which the indoor flower will feel "at ease". Planted lemon you often have to water, so without the drainage holes in the pot is necessary.

Landing instructions

Flower growers often ask how to plant lemon with cuttings. You will get the desired result, provided that you adhere to the basic recommendations. Pay special attention to the depression in the ground of the root neck of the tree: it should not be located deeper than 5 mm in the substrate. Plant the cutting in such a way that the root neck does not begin to rot in the future. After you spread all the branches, it's time to spray them first with water and then with a solution of potassium permanganate.

Video "Growing Lemon"

In this video you will hear useful tips on growing lemon.

It is widely known to the inhabitants of our planet for the past 8 centuries. In the XII century, the inhabitants of the Indian state domesticated this citrus tree and began to use its fruits not only in cooking, but also in medicine.

Today, this beautiful can be grown for decorative purposes right in the apartments. In the article we will talk about how to grow and plant a lemon at home, how to care for and treat it from various diseases.

Indoor Lemon: Choice of Variety for Home Growing

  Propagated by lemon plants or grafting. This is a must and it is worth paying attention to when purchasing.

The seller must be asked whether the plant was imported from Armenia, Georgia or Azerbaijan. After all, the seedlings in these countries were separated from the trees growing under the open sky, and they will not survive in your apartment.

You need to buy a lemon plant grafted on the "Trifoliat", since this is the best option for decorative cultivation in our climate zone.

It is necessary to buy lemon saplings only from trusted sellers, and ask them in detail all the data about the seedling. For the southern regions of our country   the most suitable varieties of lemon will be "Lisbon", "Genoa", "Meier", "Maikop".

If the cultivation of lemon at home will occur in the northern regions,   then you need to look for such varieties: "Pavlovsky", "Kursky", "Lunario", "Ponderoza".

How to create the best conditions for planting lemon tree at home

In order for a citrus plant not to feel discomfort and grow under the most optimal conditions, it must be properly planted, the best place in the apartment should be selected.

The choice of space in the room

From the right place in the home will depend on the fate of homemade lemon. If you place this plant on (many people place it there), then you need to carefully monitor the temperature differences that the lemon tree does not tolerate well.

Natural sunlight will fall on the crown of the plant only a few hours a day (in the morning or in the evening, depending on the location of the balcony), while the heat from the rooms will be regular, within +20 ° C.

Heat masses from a heater or batteries will also warm only one part of the citrus plant. The result will be a constant temperature differential, due to which it can often shed leaves or even die.

To avoid this, on the balcony you need to maintain a stable temperature throughout the volume.
  If you place a room lemon on the windowsill, then again, the sun's rays will illuminate only one part of the crown. In addition, the summer heat can contribute to the shrinkage of the root system.

To prevent this, the citrus tree should be regularly and daily deployed. Of course, the most ideal option for placing a tree will be a bay window, where lighting will occur in a more or less normal way.

However, in winter, citrus plants require different conditions. From the beginning of November to mid-February, it is better to “slow down” growth, to do the so-called artificial rest stage.

Due to the fact that in winter the sun rays no longer warm, the tree should be at temperatures of + 5–10 ° C. Moreover, it is important that any sharp temperature drop may adversely affect.

Therefore, if the lemon is contained on the balcony or in the bay window, then try not to open the door there for longer than 5 minutes, otherwise the thermal masses will begin to fill the space of the colder room.

I would also like to note that an ideal place for citrus tree growth will be a room with a glass roof, where a stable temperature of about +20 ° C and high humidity are maintained.

How to choose a container for planting lemon at home

In order to properly plant a lemon at home, you need to know how to choose the optimal capacity. The lemon tree planting pot can be made from any material: plastic, wood, metal, ceramics, etc.

When buying a container, pay attention to the fact that its upper diameter should be no more than 15 cm, and at the very bottom there should be several small holes for draining excess water.

The height of the pot should be 15–20 cm. It is better not to buy particularly high containers, since the roots of the lemon are small and you only take a lot of space on the balcony.

What should be the soil for homemade harvest

At the bottom of the pot you need to make a drainage with a height of 3-5 cm. It is made of sand or. However, ash combined with sand will be the best drainage. The bottom of the pot should be filled with 3 cm of ash, and then filled with a 2 cm layer of sand.

Ground for homemade lemon should be special, from your garden or just will not work. It is best to buy this soil in specialized stores. Just ask the vendors if they have room citrus plants.
  If you do not have the opportunity to buy soil, you can prepare it yourself. To do this, you need to take forest land (top layer, no deeper than 10 cm, preferably under old, except and), river sand, humus and wood ash (ashes can be purchased at the store, as well as sand with humus).

It is important to respect the proportions in the preparation of lemon:   for two glasses of forest soil you need to add a glass of sand, 3 tablespoons of humus and 1 tablespoon of wood ash.

Stir the mixture with water until a creamy mass is obtained. This mass needs to fill the pot so that the roots of the lemon are completely covered. After 6 months, it is advisable to transplant the tree to a wider container (20–25 cm in diameter).

Features planting lemon home

The water that flows from the taps in high-rise buildings is not suitable for watering a room lemon,   as it contains many alkaline metal macronutrients, as well as chlorine ions. Such water can cause leaf chlorosis and other tree diseases.
  It is best to take water from a well or a well, defend it during the day, and then water the plant. But if you do not have the opportunity to collect some water from a well or a well, then take hot water from the tap (the chlorine content is minimized in it) and infuse it for 24–36 hours.

Water temperature for irrigation should be + 30–35 ° С, especially in the winter season.

A container for watering a lemon tree should be with a narrow neck. When watering, tilt it close to the soil, so that a strong water pressure could not expose the root system of the plant.

  Water need not regret, water the lemon until then, until you see the liquid flowing out of the lower holes. This will mean that all the soil along with the roots is saturated with water.

Excess water can be removed from the pan 30–40 minutes after watering. It should also be noted that a citrus plant in a natural range grows in a tropical, humid climate, where frequent rainfall is normal.

Therefore, try 1-2 times a day to spray lemon leaves with water. So you can create optimal humidity.

How to fertilize lemon

In autumn, when the lemon is prepared for the rest period, it can be watered with natural black tea 2–3 times at weekly intervals.   In the period from November to February, the plant does not need feeding, as it is at rest.

How and when to prune the plant

There is a lot of information on how to rejuvenate and trim a room lemon. Some recommend cutting the plant in the fall, the second - in the winter, and others - in the spring.

Moreover, each of the “specialists” has a lot of positive arguments in the direction of his own method of pruning.

Autumn pruning, which takes place in November, allegedly increases the fruiting of the tree, winter pruning (in February) causes minimal damage to the tree, and spring - stimulates the growth of young shoots, respectively, increases fructification and strengthens the tree.
  Therefore, from a professional point of view, the most optimal period for the rejuvenation and pruning of citrus trees will be spring, when the process of budding and flowering begins.

Cut the lemon plant is needed in order to form a crown, give growth to young shoots and provide the maximum possible coverage of the entire plant.

Therefore, in the process of pruning, it is necessary to take into account the fact that a very dense plant will constantly need sunlight, in addition, a thick lemon will produce fewer fruits.

The first pruning of a citrus tree should be done only when it reaches a height of at least 20 cm. First, a zero-order shoot (main trunk of the tree) is cut at a height of 20–30 cm (4 developed buds are left).

Over time, there will appear lateral skeletal branches, on which beautiful lemon fruits will ripen. Shoots of the first and second order are cut to a height of 20-25 cm.
  Only those that interfere with the growth of young shoots are completely removed. Shoots of the third order are cut at a height of 15 cm, the fourth - 10 cm. Shoots of subsequent orders are not cut.

Lemon tree transplant basics at home

There are several reasons for transplanting lemon tree, and you need to be able to identify them in a timely manner:

  1. The lemon has grown a lot and there is little room in the old pot. Liberally water the plant, turn the pot to a horizontal position and try to remove the tree along with the earthy ball. If roots stick out from all sides, an immediate transfer to a wider and deeper container is necessary.
  2. Lemon tree struck root rot. If the roots of citrus began to produce an unpleasant rotten smell, they should be washed in potassium permanganate, and the plant should be urgently planted in a new pot with new soil.
  3. Crashed pot plant. In this case, you need to purchase a new container, and for a while wrap the lemon tree root system with a wet rag (in this form, the tree cannot be kept longer than a day). When transplanting into the soil you need to add the drug.
  4. The plant has ceased to actively grow and bear fruit. This is a sign that it lacks trace elements in the soil and room for normal growth and development of the roots, so a transplant is required, and the sooner the better.

If you find a reason for transplanting in your tree, then you need to act immediately.   The transplant rules are very similar to the planting rules, so you need to pick up the pot and soil for filling as described in several points above.

But during transplantation, it is necessary to focus on the state of the root system of the adult lemon tree. If some processes are affected by rot and an unpleasant smell emanates from them, then carefully remove all rotten roots.

Then pour some soil into a new pot and add “Kornevina” there. Insert a tree with a lump on the root system and sprinkle with soil to the desired level.

Since in the first month the root system of the lemon will actively dissolve its roots throughout the entire container, try to feed the plant at least once a week.

Difficulties in growing indoor lemon

Growing a gorgeous lemon tree at home is not so easy, difficulties always await in the most unexpected places.

In order for the citrus plant not to hurt and regularly bear fruit, we need timely watering, fertilizing, maintaining temperature and humidity, regular lighting, timely transplanting, etc.

All the listed subtleties in the care of a tree should be performed regularly and in a timely manner, and this is difficult even for housewives who are constantly at home, because you can always forget and miss some point in the care. For example, improper lighting and failure in temperature conditions can cause early leaf fall, and excessive watering can cause root rot.

Without fertilizing, the tree will not be able to grow and bear fruit normally, and low humidity will cause the leaves to turn yellow. All these difficulties always make you think before buying a lemon tree.
  But many citrus enthusiasts claim that over the years, all difficulties disappear, and people get used to their plants. Caring for them no longer seems so difficult, moreover, a new experience appears, and citrus fruits begin to grow and bear fruit more actively.

Plant Diseases and Pests

The most common homemade lemon disease is yellowing of the leaves. The causes of this phenomenon can be many different factors, depending on which and need to take measures for treatment. The main causes of yellowed leaves:

  • low air humidity;
  • irregular and improper feeding;
  • increased air temperature during the rest period (from November to February, the lemon tree should be maintained at temperatures of + 6–10 ° C);
  • defeat

The first three reasons are eliminated by mechanical methods, and to combat it you need to use chemicals such as “Kleschevit”, etc.

Sometimes the leaves of the lemon tree may fall out of time. Such a phenomenon may be associated again with the presence of a spider mite. But besides it, unstable temperature conditions, poor lighting, as well as low humidity of the soil and air can contribute to leaf fall.

Moreover, improper care of citrus plants provokes drying of young green leaves.

When growing citrus, it is necessary to apply labor and knowledge, carefully monitor its condition and then the plant will delight you with graceful flowers with a delicate aroma, useful fruits and a spectacular view.

The location of the room depends on how the tree will develop at home. Therefore, before you buy a lemon (Citrus limon), you need to think about where to put it. North windows do not fit, as there is no sun, and the plant needs sunlight. In the south - it is necessary pritenyat, especially in summer. Western, southwest, east and southeast windows are great. And warmed balconies and loggias play the role of mini-greenhouses - ideal for winter and summer maintenance.

Note! Not all Citrus love bright sunshine. Some varieties (for example, Avlovsky, Lunario) can be placed at a distance of several meters from the window.

Lemon growing video at home

It must be remembered that lemons react badly to any movements, especially they do not tolerate the turns of the pots: they can slow down in growth or lose leaves. The pot must be returned to its original position after carrying out any procedures. And only once in 2 years you can turn the plant, carefully turning it to a small angle every day. Such a turn makes it possible to more harmoniously form the crown, without causing damage to the lemon.

Variety matters

If you try to grow a tree, taken from an industrial greenhouse, at home, then, most likely, the experience will be unsuccessful. These varieties are not suitable for indoor cultivation, because the conditions of keeping are very different. When growing lemon under room conditions, the varieties must be adapted to the dry microclimate of a city apartment, have compact dimensions and remain not too demanding of sunlight. Only then, with proper care, is there a chance of getting a harvest from home citrus.

Common symptoms:

  • small sizes within 1–1.4 m (in the ground they are much higher);
  • the beginning of flowering from the second or third year of life;
  • fruit weight from 100 to 250 g;
  • the number of fruits in different varieties varies from 6 to 25 per year.

Popular indoor varieties and some of their features:

  1. Pavlovsky. Medium size, adapted to conditions with moderate lighting and dry air. The yield is small;
  2. Genoa Dwarf tree with a decorative crown, without thorns. Fruits taste excellent, and the peel is sweet. Productivity is good;
  3. Lunario Medium size, one of the most unpretentious, fruit gives a little and the taste of their low quality;
  4. Meier Dwarf tree in the form of a bush, which must be highlighted in winter. The "sweetest" of all varieties, delicious;

How to grow lemon at home, what would it bloom, bear fruit and look healthy? Carry out all the necessary procedures for plants with amendments specifically for lemon - pick up the soil, fertilize, water, moisten the air.

Acidity of soil can vary from slightly acidic to neutral. The mixture should be nutritious, but loose. For example, turf (2 parts) and leaf earth (2), humus (1), coarse sand or perlite (1). It is permissible to use purchased land.

Citrus limon is very fond of fertilizing organic matter - diluted and infused manure. When using complex mineral fertilizers, the content of phosphorus and potassium should be higher than nitrogen. Ideally, these two types of dressings alternate. The scheme of dressings looks like this: water - mineral fertilizers - water - organic - water. But in the house, many people refuse to slurry because of an unpleasant smell and quite successfully manage with mineral, organo-mineral fertilizers, liquid extract of biohumus.

Water for irrigation must be settled for several days to remove chlorine and precipitate calcium. If it is very tough, it is better to boil it. The best for irrigation is rainwater or purchased distilled water, melted snow (ice). The temperature of the liquid should not be lower than room temperature or 1-3 degrees higher than the temperature in the room, especially in winter. A slight drying of the upper layer is a sign for a new watering. In the summer it is about once every two or three days, in the winter - much less often.

Different varieties are not equally sensitive to moisture. Some (Pavlovsky, Yubileiny) fully maintain the dry air of the premises. But wet procedures love everything. It is necessary to spray only soft water (distilled, rain). Otherwise, over time, a white calcium deposit will appear on the leaves. To increase the humidity, pallets with wet claydite (pebbles, coconut fiber, etc.) or an air humidifier are used.

Comfortable temperature for development - 18 - 25 ˚С.

Citrus limon need light for 12 hours. When the winter content at a temperature of more than 14 ˚C plants need light exposure. Otherwise, the imbalance will lead to the dropping of leaves in some varieties (for example, Meyer). With a cold winter content of less than 12 C additional lighting is not needed.

How to grow a lemon so that it does not shed its leaves, has a decorative and well-groomed appearance for a whole year? Regular haircut in spring is simply necessary for most Citrus limon: on each new branch, 3 buds with leaves are left, weak branches are removed. A beautiful crown is gradually formed.

The first flowers break off and do not allow the fruit to start growing, so the young plant does not become exhausted. At 3-4 years of life, after selfing or artificial pollination of flowers, fruits are set that can remain on the tree for 2 years. During this time, the fruits can change color - green, yellow, then green again, which turn yellow again. But they must be removed on time. 1 fruit should fall on 15 leaves. The plant will not be depleted, and the decorative appearance will be preserved.

Healthy citruses have a large number of leaves. A change in temperature of 7-9 ° C in one direction or another can lead to a sharp drop in the leaves. The reason may be moving from a cold place to a warm place or vice versa, a sharp change in the weather, if the plant is brought to the open air.

If the leaves fall off gradually, the cause must be sought in the wrong watering or the quality of the soil, which leads to the death of the roots, a short light day, the presence of pests.

A couple of hours before transplanting it is necessary to soak the container in water. At the bottom of the course to lay out the drainage layer.

Pour the soil the same as they did during planting pits. After transplanting again close the seedlings with half a bottle or a can. We remove it only after the seedling is fully acclimatized. At the same time begin to form new leaves.

How to select the best seedlings for transplantation?

Here are the basic rules to pay attention to:

  • Leaf quality. They do not fall off the touch, hold tight, there should be a lot of them.

Growing problems and rules of care

Growing lemons at home requires special care. While complying with all the rules, you can get a fruiting and flowering bush:

  • Indoors, you must create a humid microclimate. To do this, often spray the bush.

  • For the correct formation of the bush it is necessary to turn the pot a quarter of a week. In the subsequent qualitatively formed stem will affect the quality of the fruit.
  • In order to actively grow lateral shoots and the tree was more magnificent, you need to pinch the top of the head. It is advisable to do this in the first year of growth.

Will a plant grown from a stone begin to bear fruit?

From the seeds can grow full fruit plants, however, they begin to bear fruit late. Seedlings that are grown from seeds, are characterized by increased adaptability to home conditions. These bushes are much more durable than cuttings.

In order for the lemon to start producing the first fruits early, this plant can be grafted onto other citrus fruits. For example: grapefruit, mandarin. The best time for this is the beginning of summer.

Also a very important factor will be the formation of the crown. As already described above, in the first year they pinch the top of the head - or rather, if the bush reaches a height of more than 25 cm. Then, second-order branches begin to grow, they need to be pinned as they grow 20 cm. Then the process should be repeated until fourth-order branches form.

  • Scattered and strong light.

All these conditions can best be observed in conditions: in the winter garden, greenhouse or greenhouse, on the balcony or loggia with glazing.

Growing lemons or other citrus fruits in greenhouse conditions has certain features. Lemons can be planted directly into the ground or put in pots. In order to grow a lemon in the ground greenhouse must be heated.

Requirements for the greenhouse where the lemon will be grown:

  • A lot of ambient lighting is needed. In the autumn-winter period, additional lighting should be used, and in summer and spring, on the contrary, it should be darkened from direct sunlight.
