They serve as a significant addition. Steel swords are used against people and animals, silver swords are used against all evil spirits and monsters. There are two dozen steel swords and a dozen silver swords in the game. They all differ from each other in characteristics. Rare swords are given out as rewards for completing difficult tasks, and can compete in effectiveness with swords made from meteorite ore. The first one is good steel sword in the game, Vesemir gives it out before leaving in the prologue. Silver sword appears to the Witcher in the second chapter.

Despite the fact that in all parts of the series there are samples of a wide variety of weapons, you can only use swords. It is impossible to explain the witchers' predilection for this type of deadly weapon, but these are the realities - no matter how impressive-looking an ax you find, it is useless for the character. However, despite the fact that the main weapon in the Witcher game is a sword, it has different purposes. Silver specimens are responsible for the destruction of various evil spirits, and steel ones are intended for killing animals and people.

This is how the steel was tempered

Let's start with the first part of the famous game. The main weapons a witcher uses are swords made of steel. Although the player is a monster slayer, a considerable amount of time will also be spent in battles with a variety of bandits. It is for them that the murder weapons described below will be required.

The next set of swords is not suitable for serious combat and will not be difficult to obtain. The products have mediocre characteristics and will not cause serious damage.

  • Rusty sword.
  • Temerian steel sword.
  • Sword of the Order of the Flaming Rose.
  • Temerian iron sword.

Next on the list are weapons that are useless and ineffective due to their insignificant damage. Although they have additional characteristics, their use is not recommended due to their low base modifier. In the game "The Witcher", the swords that the player finds are not always better than the one he is using, so such garbage can only be picked up for sale.

  • Rune sword from Dol Blathanna.
  • Ceremonial sword from Deitven.
  • from the Blue Mountains.
  • Sacred sword of the Order.
  • Forbidden sword. It comes closest to the concept of “efficiency”. You can get it in Chapter 3 by taking it from a killed assassin.

The most reliable companion in the Witcher game will be a sword made with your own hands. Meteorite swords are crafted from three pieces of the corresponding material and differ in characteristics depending on the color of the ore used.

Relics

Separately, it is worth mentioning the unique weapons from the game “The Witcher” - swords, which are found in a single copy and have their own names.

  • Rune sigil from Makahama. You can get it after completing the quest “It Won’t Hurt.”
  • Garhwal. It is possible to find it only in the second chapter near the magician’s tower in the swamps.
  • Gwihir. Bought from the blacksmith's son. But it is available exclusively in the fourth chapter.
  • D"yaebl. When you complete the task with the Striga and remove the curse, you can receive it from Velerad.

Silver

The best remedy against a wide variety of evil spirits that a witcher owns are swords made of silver. In the first part of the game there are not as many of them as we would like, but they completely cope with the task:

  • Basic "Witcher's Silver Sword".
  • Arondite. You can get it only in Chapter 4, after completing the quest “Kill Dagon”.
  • “Moon Blade” is the best example of a witcher weapon. After killing 10 special monsters, you can get it from the Chief Royal Huntsman.

"The Witcher 2"

Starting from this part, the developers got busy filling the game with content. However, most of the swords that you will find in the game “The Witcher 2” are either completely useless or are “passable”, and you will change them in literally five minutes.

  • The player is unlikely to find anything worthwhile in the Prologue. The only thing worth mentioning is that if a gamer imports saves from the first part, then depending on the final equipment, you can get a number of good blades.
  • The first chapter is rich in good weapons, which are acquired through crafting. Take a close look at the list of goods in Flotsam. There you can get one of the most interesting drawings. Bertholdt can help create the best sword in this series.
  • In the second part of the story you can find three wonderful steel swords. All of them are found during the passage of the “path of Iovert”. You will receive the unique personalized blade "Gvihir" upon completion of the quest "Baltimore's Nightmare". The "Poisoned Zerrikan Saber" hangs above the fireplace in Philippa's room after the siege ends. The Kaedweni Black Sword can be knocked out of the hands of one of the officers on the way to the mines.
  • If you were able to get Gvihir, then you will not need a replacement soon. You will find many good blades on store shelves. In the fourth chapter there are three named swords that are worth dwelling on separately. "Garval" is sold from a merchant in the camp of the Knights of the "Burning Rose". You will find the “Forgotten Sword of the Vranov” by going through “Roche’s Path”: choose the option to free Anias, and in the Detmold safe you will find the blade you are looking for. “Kerm” can be obtained through crafting, and in order to find the drawing, you will have to defeat the gargoyles and decipher the manuscript.

Silver glitter

The Witcher 2 is also rich in silver weapons. And unlike their steel counterparts, it makes sense to change them more often, since they are rich in various bonuses that must be selected for a specific playing style.

  • In Prologue, you will receive Arondite and Moon Blade when importing saves from the first part, if you had them in your inventory.
  • The first chapter is very poor in a variety of weapons against evil spirits, and most of the items found will be useless, especially if you still have the Moon Blade. You should only pay attention to the “Excellent silver witcher sword” - you will receive its drawing when completing various contracts and are unlikely to miss it.
  • But in the second chapter the player will have plenty to choose from. "Parliamentary" is available when completing both paths. You can pick it up from the corpse of the Kingslayer or get it after the “Eternal Battle” quest. Further, the player will encounter several blades with high damage, but with less effective bonuses, so replacement is not recommended. At the end of the chapter you can get the “Bloody Sword”. You need to look for it in the catacombs near Vergen.
  • In the third chapter, even the worst blade will be better than anything you've seen before. But to make it, you need to buy a drawing from the merchant Bras in Ban Arda. From him you can purchase a drawing of the Zerrikanen sword - this is the best weapon in the entire game.

The Witcher 3: The Beginning

In the third part of the Witcher game, steel swords are trash that can be safely sold. You can find similar weapons everywhere: in killed monsters and bandits, chests, treasures and from merchants. The same applies to silver weapons. Complete quests, carefully search locations and study the world map, then you will certainly be able to find equipment that suits your level.

Many players, however, highlight individual blades that differ in damage and effectiveness from the rest. These are the so-called set items. At the beginning of the game, in the White Garden location, you can find a pair of swords that are marked “Snake School”. It is unlikely that you will be able to forge a silver sword, since at this stage it is quite impossible to find.

To get the blueprints, go north of the White Garden to the cemetery. There you will have to fight a level 7 ghost, after which he will flee into the crypt. Hack the door with the Aard symbol and continue the battle. After the final victory, carefully search the dungeon. Here you will find the remains of an unlucky witcher and a drawing of a silver sword from the school of the Snake. In addition, a mark will appear on your map indicating the location of a steel sword from the same school. There you will have to destroy the bandit camp, and in the chest you will find the necessary drawing. In The Witcher 3, swords belonging to sets are never just in the chest, so you will also have to obtain the materials necessary to make them.

Kota School

This is a pair of interesting blades belonging to the light armor set. You can find drawings for them on the Novigrad map. The blueprint for the silver sword is located in the temple ruins southeast of the city. To get it, you will have to use the Aard sign to break into a locked door.

A mark on the steel sword will appear on the map immediately after receiving the drawing. There you will again have to use the sign to get into the basement. At the site you will find a diagram of the blade and a new note with the coordinates of the crossbow drawing.

This way you can get the best low-level gear in the game. Its analogues can be considered the “Bear” and “Griffin” sets, but it is not necessary to look for them, since they are a little more difficult to obtain.

Griffin School

Items of this set specialize in enhancing signs. You can start searching for them as early as level seven, but it will be quite problematic for a character without good equipment and leveling up to do so. In The Witcher 3, swords will not only help you in hand-to-hand combat, but will also improve your command of signs.

  • The initial version of the kit is located in Velen. First, go to the Handhold Ruins north of the Hanged Man Tree. There you will be attacked by harpies. After killing them, go up to the nest and stand in front of it. There will be a secret door to your left. Using your witcher senses, you will find a drawing on the body of one of the soldiers. The silver sword is hidden at the Lonely Rock Lighthouse. To get the product, you will have to kill a level 14 wyvern. However, the battle can be avoided if you wait until the monster flies away.
  • Item upgrade charts are much easier to find. The blueprint for an improved steel sword is located in the bandit camp west of Undergrowth. The diagram of the silver blade is in the cave west of Nilfgaard's camp.
  • An excellent weapon set requires a character to be level 21. In the port of Urial, on a hill you can find a drawing of a steel sword. The silver sword is hidden in a cave on the southern cape of the main island of Skellige.
  • The master steel sword schematic can be found in the ruined village of Boxholm. You will find his “brother” in an abandoned fortress on Skellige.

Bear School

Another set from the game "The Witcher". The best swords, according to most players, belong to him. They are also divided into several grades, but as a bonus they provide a good increase in critical damage.

  • You can start collecting your first swords at level 15 or even higher. You will find a drawing of a steel sword on Skellige in a burnt village. There, in the tavern, level 20 sirens and the corresponding reward will be waiting for you. You will find the silver sword according to the hint, but first prepare for a difficult battle - gargoyles and a level 30 ice elemental will guard the treasured item.
  • The blueprint for an improved steel sword is located in the Kaer Almhuld fort, west of the main island. The silver blade upgrade is stored in an abandoned fortress in the northeast of the main island. Both modifications are hidden in Crooked Ear Marshes.
  • With master swords everything is much simpler. You will find one of them in the bear cave during the story mission, the second is located on a small island near the road to

Steel Swords

Witcher Steel Sword
The Witcher will receive this sword in the prologue, after the Salamanders attack on Kaer Morhen. This is a regular steel sword, so its damage determines the fighting style, and there are no bonuses at all.

Elven Raven Armor

This powerful armor can be obtained by completing the Armor quest in Chapter 5. If the Witcher Geralt decides to join the Squirrels in their fight against the Order of the Flaming Rose, the Inhuman blacksmith will agree to forge this armor for the White Wolf, provided, of course, that all the components are collected. This version of the Raven armor features an elven design for the arms: a slightly strange version of the shoulder pads and classic pointy-ear plates on the bracers. Among other joys, this armor now has three slots for the results of the Witcher’s alchemical activities.
Damage -20%
Sign power: +10%
Energy +25
Energy regeneration: +10%

Order Armor Raven

We receive this armor as soon as we complete the Armor quest in Chapter 5. If the Witcher sided with the Flaming Rose and decided to put an end to the non-human spawn, the order's blacksmith will be able to forge this armor for Geralt when all the components are collected. This version is distinguished, in addition to its set of bonuses, by the abundance of spikes on the shoulders and bracers, which gives the Witcher an extremely menacing appearance. In addition, there are three slots for potions.
Damage -30%
Health +150
Damage +10%
Health regeneration +10%

Neutral Raven Armor

This armor is the goal of the Chapter 5 Armor quest. If Geralt decided to not give a damn about political intrigues, Squirrels and crazy priests and act like a real Witcher, maintaining neutrality, our good friend, the alchemist Kalkstein, will be able to make this armor for the White Wolf when he brings him all the components (what these alchemists are taught if they Can they also forge armor?!). This version features a lattice design on the bracers and shoulder pads. There are also three slots for elixirs and its own set of bonuses.
Damage -20%
Health +75
Energy +15
Health and energy regeneration +5%
Knockdown resistance +25%

And here you will find out where the components are:

Yes, I know this topic is not new. And everyone who has read the books can remember at least one of Geralt’s swords. (I was the first to remember the runic sigil from the last books of the saga about everyone’s favorite witcher).

From the beginning of the Saga, Geralt uses two swords - steel and silver. The witcher received both of his blades in Kaer Morhen and used them for many years. Despite the common belief among ordinary people that a steel sword is against people, and a silver sword is against monsters, both swords are intended for fights with monsters (although the Witcher sometimes uses steel against people). Geralt mentions that his swords were specially made and fitted under it.

Let's look at each one separately:

The steel sword was forged in the dwarven workshops in Mahakam from siderite ore obtained from a meteorite (as it was said much later, siderite ore is also mined in Neverland, and rumors about its amazing properties are only fiction), total length - 40.5 inches (1.0287 m) , blade length - 27.25 inches (0.69215 m), weight - 37 ounces (1.151 kg), perfectly balanced: the weight of the blade is exactly equal to the weight of the hilt - the handle and guard are made simply but elegantly, the head is spherical. The sheath of this sword was made of lizard skin. Geralt mentions that it was a first-class sword and that it could be used to cut a thrown cambric handkerchief on the fly.

The silver sword had the same length and weight as the steel one. It was only partially silver - pure silver is too soft to be sharpened well, so the steel core was forged with an alloy of silver and steel. This beautiful and elegant sword had a cross guard, a shiny patterned white metal hilt cup, a black fluted well-balanced hilt, runic signs and symbols were engraved on the guard and along the entire length of the blade, forming the ancient witcher motto: “Dubhenn haern am glandeal, morcham am fhean aiesin" - "My brilliance will cut through the darkness, my light will dispel the darkness." The black scabbard of this sword was covered with enamel.

In games, the guard of a silver sword is usually made in the form of a cross, the straight arms of which are directed downwards at an acute angle to the sword, from the hilt towards the blade, which is reminiscent of the guard of the Scottish claymore sword.

As we know, in the battle with Vilgefortz, Geralt broke his steel sword, and the silver one simply failed. Therefore, he needed new swords.

Swords from Viroledo

After the theft of his original swords during the events of the book “Season of Thunderstorms” (here it should be clarified for those who have not read the book. Geralt did not restore his swords in “Season of Thunderstorms”, but returned to Kaer Morhen and received new ones.) Geralt needed a new weapon. Dandelion bought the first sword from Viroledo for the witcher, but it turned out to be a piece of shit and broke in the first battle.

The second sword from Viroledo, this time authentic, was given to the witcher by the magician Pineti. This blade had a handle made of lizard skin, an inch above the guard was a brand in the shape of a sun with sixteen rays, alternately straight and wavy, symbolizing in heraldry sunlight and solar warmth. Two inches above the sun began an inscription engraved in a beautifully stylized font - the famous motto of the master: “Don’t take it out without a reason, don’t put it in without glory.” With this blade, Geralt fought with Sorel Degerlund and his henchmen. The sword was stolen after the tsunami that devastated Kerak, and the witcher soon regained his original swords.

Sword from Brokilon

“Brokilon is not for people!” - this is what I associate with the name of this great forest.

Geralt takes out a new sword in Brokilon in the catacombs on Kraag An after the destruction of his original steel sword during a duel with Vilgefortz on Thanedd and subsequent treatment from the dryads. The blade of this ancient weapon was forged and sharpened in Mahakam, while the hilt, guard, head and engraving were made by elves. According to the gnome Percival Schuttenbach, this weapon was made of second-rate steel and using now outdated technology (it’s like if in 2k18 you were given an indestructible Nokia for your birthday). Geralt lost this sword after being captured by the former Cintrian marshal Vissegerd and escaping from the camp of his troops with the help of Regis.

Mahakam rune sigil.

This is the last sword that Geralt used to cut down enemies in the books.

Geralt receives the sword from the dwarven mercenary Zoltan Khivay. This blade was a first-class weapon, forged in the forge of Rundurin himself: about 40 inches (1.016 m) long and weighing 35 ounces (1.089 kg), covered along a significant length of the bluish blade with mysterious runic writing, incredibly sharp, so much so that "with certain skill they could shave with it.” The engraving on the blade was made with ancient dwarf runes and read: “To the destruction of the sons of bitches!” It had a 12-inch (30.4 cm) handle with a cylindrical brass collar instead of a head and a small and skillfully made guard. Percival Schuttenbach spoke extremely enthusiastically about this sword, saying that the blade of this sword was made using modern methods: a soft multi-layer core was forged with hard steel (for comparison, the Brokilon sword was made the other way around - a hard core forged with soft steel), which only dwarves can sharpen using advanced technology so that a thrown cambric handkerchief can be cut with a sword, although such a trick could not be performed with Zoltan's sigillem. The sword apparently had hidden magical properties, since in the battle with Vilgefortz, Geralt managed to reflect the sorcerer’s stream of magical fire with the blade.

Geralt used this sword throughout the last two books in Toussaint, and it was also the one he fought with Vilgefortz in Stigga Castle. Geralt loses his sigil after a deal with Eredin. In addition, Geralt used the sigil when he saved his dwarf friends and other non-humans during the pogrom in Rivia, but the further fate of the weapon is unknown.

However, judging by the cut scenes in the game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the blade came with its owner to the Island of Apple Trees and was lost by him before the Witcher became a horseman of the Wild Hunt.

Here is how the sigil is depicted in Gwent and its description:

What is written on the blade? Damn?

No, it's an insult."

Evil tongues claim that witchers have a silver sword against monsters, and a steel sword against people. In fact, both of their swords are designed against monsters, it’s just that some monsters are more sensitive to silver, others to steel. These same swords will be discussed below. In the game “The Witcher” there are a lot of weapons, especially steel ones, but in this article we will talk about those swords that have a damage multiplier greater than zero.
