The homeland of the plant is the warm shores of the Mediterranean and the lands of the Middle East, which is why it blooms in the temperate zone even at the end of winter. Accustomed to certain climatic conditions, hyacinth does not change its habits in our latitudes less gentle for it.

With well-organized content, hyacinth delights us with exotic beauty in early spring, and on Christmas, and on the magical days of the New Year. Bright cobs of fragrant inflorescences flare up on the windowsills with a cheerful rainbow, filling the house with a delicious aroma. How to achieve success, what is necessary for the plant, and what are the rules for caring for it?

What is this flower

In the middle lane, for cultural cultivation, choose the eastern type of plant. Its hybrid forms take root well in our latitudes, not only on the windowsills of apartments, but also in summer cottages, under the open sky. In the photo of the hyacinth, its juicy, with a multifaceted palette, inflorescences in the form of an ears are clearly visible. They can reach a length of 40 cm, but more often there are cobs 20-30 cm long. The leaves form a grooved shape, are painted in saturated green color, 15-20 cm high and only 1-1.5 cm wide.

The natural color of the inflorescences of the plant is blue, but the cultivated varieties give a riot of colors, varying in all shades of yellow to pink, red, purple, and even black. All of them exude a thick sweet aroma.

How to properly care for hyacinth

The flower belongs to bulbous plants and has about 30 species. However, some scientists are inclined to consider the plant monotypic, creating in one form different forms and varieties. It was brought to Europe in the 16th century from the countries of Asia Minor. The hyacinth bulb is perennial, it does not form substitute bulbs, like a tulip, and therefore requires a special relationship. The newly forming parts of the flower are the renewal buds, which are formed annually in the same bulb. The onion begins the long process of care.

Bulb Forcing

In order to successfully bring the plant to bloom, it is necessary to choose large, at least 5-6 cm, bulbs.

Tip: If the seed is taken from open ground, and not in the store, then it should be dug up at the end of June, after flowering has ended. The bulb is allowed to rest until September and only after that they begin preparations for a new revival.

So, hyacinth has faded, what to do with the bulb? It must be planted in the soil from a mixture of earth and sand, having previously laid a drainage layer on the bottom of the pot. Press the body of the bulb down and sprinkle with earth. When planting, make sure that the bulbs do not touch each other and with the walls of the pot. Then the plant is cleaned in a dark and cold room. At home, they use a refrigerator. In this mode, the plant should spend 2 months.

Important: when the bulb is in the refrigerator, do not dry the soil, moisten it regularly, otherwise the flower will not wake up.

As soon as you notice that the flower gave sprouts 2-2.5 cm high, it is time to transfer it to a warmer place, with a temperature of 10-12 degrees. Wait for the buds to appear and transfer your treasure to the windowsill. Please note that by planting the bulb in September, you will receive the first flowers for the New Year, and the October planting will give the result by March 8. Now consider how to care for the flower next.

Temperature

For a formed plant, a temperature of +20 degrees is considered comfortable. It does not like drafts and does not tolerate proximity to heating radiators. Choose a place where your beauty will be cool and not windy. When planting and caring for hyacinths in open ground, place the plants under the protection of shrubs to protect them from drafts.

Lighting

An adult plant needs an optimal lighting mode. It is photophilous, but it is better to use artificial lighting when caring for hyacinth than to expose it to direct sunlight. In the garden, the plant should be slightly darkened with neighboring flowers or shrubs.

The soil

In care, the main thing is to choose the right soil composition. The flower loves water-permeable, well-fertilized soils, without acidification. When growing plants in open spaces, acidic soils must be calcified, and sand and peat should be added to clay soils. For the house, it’s enough to buy a universal mixture for flowers.

Attention! Do not fertilize the plant with fresh, poorly decomposed manure. Such top dressing will lead to burning of the bulb.

Landing

For the suburban area, the landing mode changes. What to do after flowering hyacinths, if they grow in your garden?

    • First you need to prepare the site. Work begins in August to allow the soil to subside and prevent the plant roots from breaking off.
    • Dig the soil to a depth of at least 40 cm.
    • Then fertilizer is applied. Humus or rotted manure is taken at the rate of 10-15 kg per square meter of soil. Peat, sand and mineral fertilizers (superphosphate) are added, calculating a portion of 60-80 g per square meter.

  • Landing begins in late September or early October. Early planting dates can lead to plant growth in winter and it will die.
  • If the planting occurred at the end of October - beginning of November, the plant must be well insulated and covered with a film from snow and cold rain.
  • For flowerbed planting, when a lot of planting material is taken, the soil must be raised by 15-20 cm. Such a rise will give good aeration in the spring, and the soil will warm up faster.

Care after flowering

If you do not know when to dig up a handsome man after flowering, take a note: the most preferred time is the end of June - the beginning of July. In the garden, and at home, you need to dig a bulb from the ground, wash, dry, separate the children, if any, and put them in storage. Then proceed to their distillation described above.

Breeding

Bulbs, onion flakes and children are used in flower propagation. If the task is to develop a new variety, take plant seeds, which, as a rule, do not inherit the signs of the mother flower. The process of growing from seeds is very complex and quite expensive, so for the home and garden it is better to use the first three methods.

    1. The simplest solution is to wait for the children to appear at the central bulb. However, when you dig up hyacinths after flowering, you will find there 2, maybe 3 or 4 children, not more. If you want to get a lot of children from a plant, you should interrupt its flowering so that it directs its forces to reproduce.
    2. Cutting the bottom helps to accelerate the formation of young bulbs. This must be done very carefully so as not to cause dangerous damage to the parent bulb. Use a teaspoon, sharpening its top. After cutting out the bottom, remove the bases of the scaly leaves and plant the bulb in the soil mixture, putting it upside down. Keep the temperature at +20 degrees for two months, until the formation of new onions. Children appear on slices of scaly leaves.

  1. If you doubt the success of the previous method, just cut the bottom of the bulb several times. The depth of the cuts is 0.5 cm. 4 or 2 cuts are sufficient, depending on the size of the planting material. Place the onion with incisions in a dry, warm place for a day, at a temperature of 20 degrees, then transfer it to the prepared container with soil and wait for the formation of children.

Important: Slices of scaly leaves and cuts do not forget to treat with fungicide to prevent their disease.

Diseases and Pests

The first step to getting sick can be poor planting material. Thoroughly reject the bulbs, ruthlessly parting with the sick and damaged.

A characteristic disease of adult plants is yellow bacterial rot. It affects the bulbs of the plant, turning their tissues into shapeless mucus with a rather specific smell. The process of decay cannot be stopped, so all infected bulbs must be destroyed.

If an inflorescence falls out of a leaf outlet, then you have filled the flower. Excess moisture provokes an increase in root pressure, the inflorescence weakens and falls.

In order to avoid such troubles as stunting, curvature of leaves and flower stalk, it is imperative to etch both the soil and the bulbs before planting.

The yellowed leaves of the flower indicate a small amount of moisture and light. Move the plant to a more lighted place and restore normal watering.

The best varieties for home and garden

The main difference between all varieties of hyacinth is the color of the inflorescence. Most flower growers choose a plant from it. Flowers can be terry and ordinary. In our latitudes, an oriental type of flower is grown, and the best varieties are recognized:

    • White Festival and White Pearl with snow-white cobs;

    • Blue Festival and Delft Blue with inflorescences painted in amazing Gzhel blue;

    • Woodstock Delightful Burgundy Flowers;

  • Jan Bos will delight you with red and pink lights, and Pink Pearl will decorate the garden with bright pink blooms.

When choosing varieties, think about what you want to see in your garden or on the windowsill. Make organic combinations for a large-scale composition, and on a home windowsill, one blooming hyacinth creates an amazing symphony of beauty.

If you are not afraid of complicated care, then you will become the owner of an amazing flower. He got his name from the god Apollo, who immortalized in him the name of his beloved, killed by the god of the west wind Zephyr. So, from a drop of blood of a beautiful young man a charming flower came to the world, conquering the hearts of millions.

Hyacinth is a universal flower, it can be grown both on the windowsill in the apartment, and in the garden, in the open. The plant is perfect for beginner gardeners who want to learn how to care for plants. Even in winter, flower shops have a large selection of distillation of hyacinths; it is a pleasure to receive such a gift. Do not throw away faded plants. They can be saved, then to plant in open ground. In the spring they will bloom.

    Show all

What to do with a flower?

After the hyacinth has faded, there are two options for the development of events:

    1. 1. Discard the plant, and leave the empty pot for growing seedlings or under a cactus.
    2. 2. Remove the flower stalk and place the hyacinth after flowering in the apartment in a larger pot. After drying the plants, remove the bulb from the ground and store until autumn, then plant in open ground.

      Care after distillation

In winter, hyacinths (lat. Hyacinthus) are sold in small pots with a minimum amount of land. The plant lacks moisture, room for growth and nutrients. When distilled, the bulb is very depleted.

Immediately after the purchase, you can transplant the flower into a larger container if things are really bad and special care is required, but it is better not to rush.

      Transplant after flowering

    Plants after transplanting into trays

First you need to prepare the container and the ground for transplantation. Soil can be bought or made independently at home. It is recommended to mix compost, turf, leafy soil and humus in equal proportions, add a little sand and full mineral fertilizer.

Expanded clay is poured at the bottom of the selected pot (or tray, if there are many bulbs), and a layer of soil is placed on top of it. Bulbs are placed in the ground at ⅔ of the height, while they should not touch the walls of the container. The neck of the bulb should remain above the surface of the earth, otherwise the plant will rot and disappear.

      Care

It’s easy to take care of the plant. However, it must be very carefully watered: it must be ensured that water does not fall on the bulb. After flowering, the stem with dried buds must be removed and wait until the leaves turn completely yellow. At this time, abundant and rare watering is necessary so that the earth has time to dry out.

After the leaves fade, watering is stopped. Two weeks later, when the earth dries, the bulb can be dug up. This must be done no later than the end of June. Then the bulb must be cleaned from the ground and dried. This is done for 5-7 days in the shade, in a well-ventilated place, the optimum temperature is +20 ° C.

After drying, it is necessary to separate the children, if they have their own roots, as well as remove dead scales.

How to preserve the bulb after flowering

After drying, the bulb needs a dormant period.

It should last about three months and is divided into two stages: storage at elevated temperature and pre-planting period. Flowering in the coming year depends on compliance with the conditions. It is best to place the tubers in an unheated room where the temperature naturally begins to drop gradually.

You can reduce the duration of the first stage by a week. To do this, raise the temperature in the first week of storage to +30 ° C, and the room should be well ventilated.

Immediately before planting the bulbs in open ground, it is recommended to withstand two days at a temperature of +5 ° C.

      Outdoor landing

For planting, it is best to choose an open area with a slight slope, which will allow excess water to drain. It is recommended to make high bulk beds to avoid the harmful effects of groundwater on the roots.

Many summer residents seek to grow hyacinths in their area, planting and caring in the open ground for which require a certain amount of time. In this article we will look at how to grow these beautiful flowers (even in those regions where the ground freezes in winter), when to dig up hyacinths, how to store bulbs, how to propagate a variety you like.

Hyacinths in the flowerbed (photo by Nadezhda Abramovich, Krasnodar)

In early spring, as soon as the snow melts, green hyacinths sprout from the ground. This flower with a bewitching and pronounced aroma differs in all shades of the rainbow. Inflorescences in the form of tassels can be either ordinary or terry in structure, usually 20-30 buds are located on the peduncle.

Planting Hyacinths in the Ground: Choosing Bulbs and a Place for Planting

Perennial hyacinth is an onion culture, the size of the bulb may vary depending on the variety of flower. Planting material is considered an adult by 5-6 years, when fully formed. A tuber is a scaly sphere with a kidney of renewal - it is it that affects its growth. By the 5th year, adult bulbs usually acquire babies that form near the bottom and are hidden under scales.

Hyacinth, photo of flowers:

When choosing tubers, you should pay attention to the following nuances:

  1. Terry bulb bulbs are often smaller, unlike their regular counterparts.
  2. To grow flowers in the open ground, the tuber must have at least 4 cm in diameter, a full-fledged active bud and multiple flakes. Elasticity and heaviness are indicators of a healthy bulb.
  3. The appearance of the bulb should be perfect - no damage, sagging sides, mold.
  4. On the lower part of the tuber (near the bottom), root primordia should be present.
  5. The bottom of a bulb suitable for planting should be about one and a half to two times smaller than the bulb itself (we are talking about volume).

The key to long and lush flowering is not only high-quality planting material, but also the very place for planting. You can split a flower garden near trees or bushes, but not very close to them. The place for plants should be calm, well lit by sunlight. The soil needs to be loose, if black soil or loam predominates on your site, then it is advisable to add peat to it in advance (you can also sand). Soddy ground or deciduous humus are excellent conditions for the development, growth and flowering of hyacinths.

Organic fertilizer gives good results as a fertilizer, but dung should not be used. If the soil is acidic (pH above 6.5) then it should be diluted with dolomite (limestone) flour. Hyacinth tubers do not like excessive moisture. If in your area groundwater runs close to the surface (closer than 0.5 m), you can’t do without arranging high beds. In addition, plants will have to provide a quality drainage substrate, as well as make a slight slope of the ridge - for better outflow of water during rains, spring snowmelt. With the advent of spring, high beds warm up faster with sunlight, hyacinths bloom much earlier.

When to plant hyacinths

An acceptable time for planting bulbs is mid-September / October. It should be borne in mind that if you plant a tuber too early, it will begin to develop, but will not tolerate winter, it will freeze. If you plant hyacinths too late, then they will not have time to take root and get used to the place - they will also perish accordingly. If you are late for boarding, then hurry up to the first week of November - this is the latest deadline. To do this, you have to resort to additional measures - to cover the planting site with fallen leaves, spruce branches or any other shelter to prevent freezing of the bulbs.

Can I plant hyacinths in spring? Often I see that gardeners ask about spring planting of hyacinths. Most likely this question arises if you bought or gave you a blooming hyacinth in a pot. What to do with the onion in this case? First, let the flower bloom. Secondly, the bulb should not be immediately transplanted into the open ground. Let the bulb ripen: reduce watering, leave the flower alone, wait until all the leaves turn yellow and begin to die. About a month and a half will pass. After that, release the onion from the pot and leave it in a shaded place until September-October (the timing depends on the region). And then do as the tips recommend planting hyacinths in the fall.

Hyacinths cultivation in the open field

It is highly advisable to prepare the soil in advance - dig to a depth of about 40-45 cm and make the required additives (depends on the composition and condition of the soil). Limestone (200 g), wood ash (150 g), superphosphate (50-70 g), magnesium sulfate (10 g) or potassium (20 g) are added from an approximate calculation per 1 m² of land. So that fragile young roots are not damaged during planting, digging the soil in place of the future flower garden is also important. During bulb deepening, the soil temperature should be about 8-11 degrees, the distance between the tubers should be no more than 10-15 cm. If the flowers are planted in beds, the row spacing should be about 18-22 cm. If you want different varieties of hyacinths bloomed at the same time, make sure that all the tubers are approximately the same size.

Hyacinth, photo of bulbs:

The place under the future flower garden is mulched with leaves or some other suitable material, covered with a plastic film, to preserve heat. After deepening the tubers, the site is sprinkled with sawdust or peat, and it can again be covered with foliage or coniferous spruce branches. Special covering material is excellent for these purposes. With the advent of the first days of spring, the protective coating can be removed to clear the way for pecking hyacinth sprouts.

As mentioned above, the bulbs must be healthy, but if you are still afraid of fungal manifestations, you can pre-soak them in a fungicide solution. The width and depth of the hole under the tuber should be equal to its two sizes - about 15-25 cm, a little sand can be poured on the bottom, and then the tuber should be buried down to the bottom (somewhere 13-15 cm). The onion is sprinkled with soil, which must be slightly tamped, then watered. The root system of the plant absorbs moisture and nutrients from the earth in a radius of about 20 cm from the tuber - this should be taken into account. Small onions cannot be deeply buried, they should also be planted quite densely.

How to care for hyacinth

After the protective shelter is removed, the care of the plants will consist in weeding, regular watering, loosening the soil, applying fertilizing. Keep in mind that hyacinths are poorly related to the weed neighborhood. When the buds begin to set and the flowering time comes, soil fertilization becomes especially relevant. After hatching the sprouts, the flowers can be fed with nitrate (25-30 g per 1 m²).

The second stage of fertilizer follows during the period when the buds are gaining color. Now, in addition to ammonium nitrate, you can add potassium chloride (25 g) and a phosphorus additive (for example, superphosphate, 35 g). At the end of flowering, superphosphate and potassium chloride are added to the plot - 35 g of each product per 1 m² of area. Fertilizers process row-spacings or spaces between flowers; watering should always be done after top dressing.

Hyacinths - how to care after flowering? Unfortunately, this wonderful period is fleeting; after the flowers have dried, the roots should continue to be saturated with moisture. To tubers well restored after flowering, watering and fertilizer should be in the first place. If you live in a “cold” region, you can’t leave hyacinths for the winter, you have to dig them out - these are necessary measures for the further favorable formation of kidney replacement.

If you live in the Kuban, in the Crimea, in the north of the Caucasus, then the annual digging of tubers can be avoided, but only on condition of a very hot summer. It should be borne in mind that the bulbs left in the ground for the next year will yield much less flowers.

When to dig up hyacinths after flowering

The optimal period is the last weeks of June - the first half of July, when the leaves of the plant become yellow and weak. The ground part of the flower is removed, the tubers are removed from the soil, washed with water and thoroughly dried. Next, we conduct an audit - we discard damaged (or with obvious signs of the disease) specimens. If there are undeveloped children on the bulb, they are separated and set aside for growing. Before storage, all tubers must be treated against diseases and pests.

Planting material, photo:

After all the manipulations, the bulbs should be aged for about 7-10 days in a well-ventilated place at an air temperature of +17 .. + 20 ° C. To do this, they need to be laid out on clean paper, and after the specified time has passed, hidden in paper bags. It is the period after flowering, as well as the processing and storage of tubers that are the most important for hyacinths. At this time, acclimatization of planting material occurs, the scales dry out, the tubers are prepared for the summer period.

At a sufficiently high summer temperature, air access and moderate humidity should be provided to the bulbs (if the thermometer reaches + 30 ° C). About three weeks before planting, the temperature in the room with the bulbs should be lowered to +16 ° C - this will help them adapt before planting.

How to propagate hyacinths at home

Separately, it is worth considering reproduction methods, since tubers can produce flowers for two or three years, but they will not form children. For this, the bulbs need stimulation, it is carried out in various ways.

Hyacinth tuber bottom cutting

Even when landing on the site, the place where the largest bulbs are planted is determined. After the leaves turn yellow in the plant, the tuber is removed from the ground and immediately, without allowing it to dry, they arrange a “shower” under strong pressure of water. During this process, old flakes are removed along with the ground. Next, the onions are laid out in one layer in a ventilated box, taken out to a shaded place, dried for about 7-10 days. After this time, with the help of a sharp knife at the bottom, a wedge-shaped cut is made, in which the kidney and the donor itself are completely removed. The place of cut must be treated with crushed activated carbon.

After this operation, the tubers are laid out in a container, the bottom of which is covered with a layer of perlite. Bulbs should be laid with the cut bottom up. Next, the container is placed in a large plastic bag (garbage bags can be used) to create the required microclimate. At a temperature of + 30 ° C and high humidity, babies will appear at the cut site, and after 2-3 months they will reach about 1 cm, get root buds and let out small processes. If the bottom was cut out in the first months of summer, then the tuber with children can be planted in the soil and covered with sawdust (or peat).

If time is lost, then the tubers are turned upside down, placed in a container with soil, placed in the cold (refrigerator, cellar), and when spring comes, they are planted on the site.

After the hyacinths have faded, what should I do next? With the onset of August, these tubers are dug up (by that time they are already covered with children), they separate the children. By early September, the young generation of hyacinths is buried in the soil, covered with a 10 cm layer of mulch (sawdust, pine conifer, foliage, peat). At the end of the first wintering, the mulch layer is removed, but left in place after the second winter. In the third year, such hyacinths give color and delight you with a wonderful aroma.

Bulk flake propagation

Large tubers (approximately 5-6 cm in diameter) are cut into 4 parts, after which some scales are separated from the bottom, the “wound” surface is treated with crushed activated carbon. Next, a container is taken, at the bottom of which perlite or clean sand is poured, you can also use crushed charcoal with ash. Broken flakes are placed in this container, then it is placed in a transparent plastic bag, reliably tied and aged for 2 months under not too bright light.

In this case, the air temperature should be approximately + 19..23 ° C, but in the second stage, which lasts one and a half months, the temperature should be reduced to + 16..19 ° C. During this period, several onions will be tied on the scales. Storage of young livestock is similar to the method described in the first method.

Hyacinth propagation by leaf cuttings

To do this, wait for the period of ovary flower stalks and separate from hyacinths by a pair of sheets, they need to be cut as close as possible to the base. Next, the leaves are treated in a solution that stimulates root formation (for example, “Heteroauxin”) and buried 3-4 cm into a container with clean sand (or perlite). This capacity, again, is enclosed in a plastic bag, tied and placed in a moderately lit place for a month and a half. Air temperature should vary between + 10..17 ° C, humidity - 80-90%. After this period, on the cuttings you can see the bulbous rudiments, and after 50-60 days - young roots and small leaves. Then the plants are planted on the site, each stalk subsequently gives 6-10 children.

Incision of the bottom as a way of propagating hyacinth

In this procedure, the donor is not removed, as in the first case, but is incised crosswise. A pair of crosses is made on large tubers, one on smaller ones. Damaged places are treated with powdered activated carbon, then the bulbs are put in a warm room (+ 20..22 ° C) for 24 hours so that the “crosses” open. All further steps are similar to the recommendations described above. With this method of tuber stimulation, approximately 10–16 large young bulbs can be obtained.

In order for these spring messengers to please you with long flowering, splendor of tassels and an amazing aroma, you need to make an effort. Now you know how to grow hyacinths, planting and care in the open ground for which, although they are difficult, they are undoubtedly worth the time and energy spent.

Homemade hyacinth  - a beautiful and unpretentious plant, which is not so difficult to grow independently. For this, first of all, it is very good to know the following features of this beautiful flower:

  • Popular varieties:  “Aida”, “Aqua”, “Odyssey”, “Jan Bos”, “Lady Pink” and others.
  • Flowering months- from January to May. The flowering period lasts about two weeks and depends on when exactly you planted this plant. Usually, planting dates are calculated so that the flower blooms at the end of December, by New Year and Christmas.
  • Months of landing.  If you want the flowering to come on New Year's holidays, you need to plant the bulbs in September (in extreme cases, in early October).
  • Beneficial features.  The essential oil obtained from hyacinth has excellent antiseptic properties, in addition, it has astringent and sedative effects. It is widely used in aromatherapy and perfume industry. The stems of the plant contain a rare substance colchicine, which is used for the manufacture of medicines. Plant flowers are used in the cosmetics industry, creating facial skin care products based on them.

Landing guide

Planting home hyacinth is the most important and crucial stage. First of all, you need to choose good ones and onions. To grow hyacinth at home, you need to use only the largest bulbs, with a diameter of at least 5 cm. They must have a dense texture and be healthy, without damage and with well-preserved outer scales.

It is worth planting harvested bulbs in large boxes or wide pots with a drainage hole.

  1. Take nutrient soil and drainage (such as sand).
  2. At the bottom of the container, lay a thin layer of drainage, then fill it with earth. Bulbs cannot be planted to a depth, they must peek out onto the surface of the soil (two centimeters). The gaps between adjacent bulbs should be at least 1.5 cm.
  3. After planting, press the ground, water the soil and sprinkle it on top with a small amount of sand (this will interfere with the processes of decay).
  4. Then place the container in a plastic bag and tie it in a few holes.
  5. Store in a cool, dark place (such as a refrigerator).

Transplant Rules

  Hyacinth tuber fossa digger

Hyacinth transplant is not used so often. This is an annual plant, which at the end of the flowering period becomes unusable, and the remaining bulbs can no longer be reused.

However, if you have grown hyacinth and still want to transplant it into another container, you should exercise maximum caution. The easiest way to move the plant completely, without digging, along with the ground. Carefully raise the thickness of the soil with the flower and transfer it to another container prepared in advance. Do not forget to make several holes in it and fill the bottom with drainage.

If you still decide to dig a flower from the soil, you need to do this very carefully so as not to damage the delicate roots of the plant.

Care for lush flowering and plant health

To hyacinth pleased you with lush flowers, it is necessary to keep the container with the bulbs planted in a dark, cool place for about 6-7 weeks.

From time to time it is necessary to check whether the earth in the box has dried up.  When you notice the appearance of the first green shoots, the container must be moved to a warmer shaded place (with a temperature of about 10-12 degrees). After a few days, when the shoots get stronger and rise, you can move the box closer to the window. Care for the plant in this period should be very carefully.

It is necessary to ensure that there are no drafts in the room, excessive cold or excessive heat. For successful cultivation, it is important that the earth is moist all the time.

Proper watering of a flower

The soil must always be moist.

Hyacinth is a plant that loves moist soil very much.  To achieve long and successful flowering, watering this flower should be often enough. Do not let the earth in the pot dry, it must be moist all the time.

To increase the flowering period, you can add to the care procedures also watering with special feeding formulations and fertilizers.

Care after flowering

After flowering, you have to part with your home hyacinth. Bulbs are no longer suitable for repeated distillation.  When the flower has bloomed, you can continue to water and feed the leaves until they wither (this usually happens a few days after the flowering period ends).

Hyacinth bloom and the rules for caring for it during this period

The flowering period usually occurs 14-16 weeks after planting and lasts from 7 to 15 days. True, successful flowering is possible only with strict adherence to all rules of care. If your home hyacinth does not bloom, then you have violated any of the mandatory care points.

The most common reasons for the lack of flowering:

  • wrong resting period (the resting period should last 2-2.5 months and must take place in a dark and cool place);
  • insufficient watering.

Bulb propagation

Home hyacinth is one of the plants that reproduce easily and produce numerous offspring. When you grow this flower, you will notice that shoots of “children” will appear from under the scales of the mother’s bulb.

It is not necessary to separate the shoots immediately, otherwise you can damage the mother's bulb.  You can separate the children during the summer dormancy, if they have their own roots.

Store seeds and bulbs Hyacinth is needed in a dry and dark place until the planting period begins.

Treatment and pest control

Sometimes with improper care, the leaves of the hyacinth begin to fade prematurely, and the petals crumble. If your flower turns yellow and begins to dry, it means that it lacks moisture, or that it is in too hot conditions.

In this case, the only possible way to prevent  - regularly water the flower so that the soil always remains moist, and prevent direct exposure to bright sunlight. Keep the flower in a place with diffused light. Never place it near batteries, heaters, or any other heat sources.

Bulb cost

You can buy bulbs for driving home hyacinth in flower shops, in the departments of gardening goods, as well as in online stores. Bulb prices may vary, depending on the plant variety.

On average, the retail price of one bulb of a plant starts at 50 rubles.

When buying bulbs in sets of several pieces, you can save. For example, a set of three onions can be purchased for 100-120 rubles. The rarest varieties are valued higher. For example, one bulb of a particularly large terry hyacinth costs about 150 rubles.

Hyacinths must be grown from bulbs that have passed the dormant period. In diameter, they should be no more than 7 centimeters. In order for the hyacinth to bloom, say, by the New Year, its bulbs must be planted in September-October.

Planting hyacinth
